I used to have a best friend who was exactly like this... very reserved and quiet, but still intellectual enough to make a cohesive sentence and well spoken about things. Is it so hard to believe someone is this at peace or what...?

I disagree he ticks all the boxes for being "autistic savant". You can see the autistic aspect in interviews and how he works and relationships with Lou and Murph, and then the savant aspect in just being freakishly musically gifted not only in playing, but just how fast he became such a good guitarist and his creative ability .
I don’t know anything about his personality and I was like this guy is chilling all the time and it’s not about the effect of anything like drugs or heavy sounds or etc.
I watch this video every time I need to laugh. Mascis falling asleep in the middle of his own interview is the best comedy I’ve ever seen. He is such a good actor, I bet he did it for comic relief.
