I'm in Australia and recently picked up 2 Lister D engine, I hope to restore both. My dad picked up a Lister D in the rubbish heap on a farm back in the late seventies.he spent hours getting it going and used it for years doing jobs around the yard from woodcutting to even on a grinder, grinding barley for my pigs. So I have very fond memories of Lister.

    Beautiful looking D mate !! 👌
I've got one now at 38yo... I used to restore and show stationary engines and tractors with my grandfather as a young bloke, and the first ever engine I rebuilt with him was a Lister D, so seeing these restored and looked after really makes me happy...
Much like old cars, trucks, bikes etc, we are only custodians for these old pieces of history

Top tip, put a squirt of oil into the water before you drain it. It will leave a microscopic film of oil on the internal surfaces of your water passages and protect them from rust 👍

I was once told they would make a small wire cage to fit in the water tank and boil eggs for breakfast.

What is the water reservoir used for ??? I have seen a Swiss man who used a 1936 lister model on a old bicycle from maybe back in the mid 60s . And he had placed a string of sausages into the reservoir to heat them up 😮 before eating part of one of them . On his bike he had a leather strap , running over the huge flywheel on the lister motor. back to his back tire going over an outer flywheel mounted to the back tire to give power to the back wheel 😮 and it worked perfectly 👍 he was able to travel at about 15 miles an hour . You can see it on TH-cam. Just type in Rat Bike w/Lister D 1936 . It’s really a great video 😁

Hi, the water reservoirs used to keep the engine cool, works like your car radiator, except the water sits on top of the cylinder I’ll have to have a look for that video sounds good thank you for watching

If it wont start , push down the top of the air inlet to suck more fuel in and then turn it over holding the little button down.

Beautiful condition. It runs so well, and it seems quiet but that could just be that the camera or you adjusted the volume. Do you just keep it for fun? Have you thought of anything to use it for?
