- I got my hands on this little beauty and let me tell you it's pretty much the favorite small engine I now own. It's really damn cool. The way it blows the little smoke rings and the way it sounds and smells, you have to own one.

I'll bet that unit would be a treat in a house with tall ceilings and still air! That's a nice alternative for those without the space nor funds to keep the full sized engines.
Yes and these mill engines are really hard to find, and transport.
I'm glad you changed the base for the engine it looked messy with all the leads showing the only thing I'd change would be USB charging for the batteries still excellent little project

It seems you can make a little generator from it, other that that its purely a toy. I love the smoke rings haha.

What component is actually doing the loud clacking noise?
That is the cam actuating on the small roller bearings on the valve rockers, the cam has a agressive pitch causing the clacking noise.
Looks like the flywheel has a little runout. Otherwise nice.

Is the piston water cooled. Is that what the metal hose on the bottom is for and the top one feeds back to the water holder at the back?
Yes the piston is water cooled. It has a small water pump for the coolant

Looks like the contents of the shipping box settled. Kinda like potato chips. For the minor assembly required, it could hardly be called a kit.
So how does it work?
Seriously. I don't see a source of heat as you would for, say, a classic Wilesco steam engine. But it seems to be putting out steam.

Lots of room for improvement that flywheel would be on my lathe immediately and some work on the wiring layout and coolant lines.
If I had a lathe I would also give it some love.

Sounds like it's running pretty good but what's causing the the big wheel wobble is it a bad casting or is it a bent crankshaft
The flywheel is not perfectly balanced.

Doesn’t look like it needs restoration.
Seems to run pretty good but I would never accept a cast wheel that is crooked and wobbling like that. Totally unacceptable. Looks like whoever milled it was drunk as a skunk
