Africans don't respect each other and we bring that divisive/tribal sentiments overseas with us from home so how do you expect us to build a force like the Asian, India and Arab communities?
In America we have the 401k that is available to every worker , yet most Africans refuse to invest .They instead are investing in poultries in Africa ! You should set aside a certain amount monthly to invest /send to your African country/ family of course but the 401k and other investing can make you a millionaire !!
I am living in Europe, I agree with some of the things you said about why Africans in diaspora are relatively poorer compared to their Asian and Arab counterparts, but I see contradiction in your statements. If some of Africans are poor or earning too little, financial knowledge is less of a priority. You seem to focus too much on financial knowledge, I will prefer to focus on skill, skill and more skills, that is what most Africans have refused to do compared to the Chinese and Indian (you hardly find a Chinese and Indians in night club when their academic performance is so poor, but most Africans will spend the whole weekend in nigh club showing their dancing skills, but failing in the most critical areas: Engineering and science). They want quick money, studying very hard like the Chinese and the Indians is difficult for most Africans to do, they think it is a waste of time, they are happy with certificates but certificates do not equate to skill (one can have PhD but fail to solve engineering problem in his engineering field). For those who have come to study, focus on your education, throw in everything you have to understand what you are studying. This advice was giving to me by my Chinese flat mate, he also told that we Africans are working so hard to earn money instead of studying hard. Of course you can work but remember the big picture, knowledge, prioritize it!
I get your point but what good is skill without the financial knowledge to manage the proceeds from using the skill? Abd i agree we have refused to up our skill level. you are so right about the certificates though - we chase that too much!! Hmm - the BIG picture - amazing insights. Thank you so much!!
West Africans (particularly Nigerians) have the highest number of students in STEM per population percentage, both in the UK and the US. Nigerians are also the only Black group who outearn foundational white Americans in the US. Financial literacy is a must if the money needs to be conserved. This is where they fall short behind their Asian counterparts.
Black tax is for sure a thing. As much as we say there is no community support, which is true in some certain extent. Because imagine you have an uncle or aunty or friend who has been aboard for the longest of time forming busy to avoid interacting with you because they will think you travel to abroad to put your problems on them. So the loop continues old ones hide from the new ones vase vasa
The idea of churches teaching financial literacy is a great one. However, it is not about to happen anytime soon. Churches are the number one leeches of finances. Anyone who becomes financially literate realizes the financial con they have been playing and severely reduces their contributions to churches or even cuts them off altogether. It is in the best interest of churches to keep people financially illiterate.
The new first and second generation children of African parents born in the diaspora are being very proactive in breaking this cycle. They have made it their duty to not make the sacrifice they saw their parents made for relatives because it was their own upbringing which suffered. They will travel and enjoy their own money without any obligation to support distant relatives.. I fully support this decision
And the fact that they are 2nd generation means the bond is really not there to 'force' them to pay black taxes or deprive themselves for others back home. Good point!!
The new generation isn't strongly connected to their parents' roots. Many of them don't return to Africa ever again. We, in Africa, consider them a lost generation.
Wow!! You are so right! I am from Nigeria. You touched all the points. I appreciate you. I will definitely share. I have been in the USA for 27years. I am also an investment advisor. Some of our people won’t listen. God help us all.
I always encourage people to sacrifice chasing money in the first few months or even years if they can and get the professional experience they need through voluntary work or internship. Unfortunately, a lot of people settle for low paying jobs because it's easy to get. Even if you have to take a low paying job, at least make a feasible, written down plan on how to progress into your desired field.
I agree -i have seen so many people that i have tried to talk to to aim higher. but they are so bogged down with the low paying jobs and have bills that they are just not motivated. And seriously, i completely understand cos it happened to me too. Luckily i schooled in Canada so i already understood the volunteer mindset and that really helped me. God help us!

Good video, but we should be cautious about generalisations and about perhaps comparing apples with mangos. The issue is much more nuanced than is being presented. For example, the Asians you are comparing Africans with, how long have they been in the host country compared to the relatively new African migrants? Also, lumping Africans into one, monolithic group could be viewed as lazy thinking, as there is great variation between the various sections of African migrants... That said, you did a good job in shining a light on an important issue...
I get you @Acyberton and if you listened carefully, I did avoid generalizations. i was careful to. Even new Asian immigrants have a better community and mindset to integrate....in my opinion. What are the various sections of African immigrants - i would sure love to learn!

Nigerians are also the only Black demographic who outearn foundational white Americans in the US. So Africans are not monolithic in their outcomes. Also, your point about learning financial literacy is a must if money earned is to be conserved and multiplied. There also seems to be issues with creating businesses too, which also requires a higher level of financial literacy. Too many Africans create businesses, just to end up with more debt than profits because they don't thoroughly educate themselves on tax laws of the nations they find themselves in.

@secure954, OGA John haba, a day begins a story. Retired Bank President, fishing in low waters. Good. Only if it is the real deal. I will monitor this space.
I do not agree with you. A lot of white people are in the same boat regarding jobs. Also it’s not all about education. Loads of white people are trades men and are making lots of money. Same is true of black immigrants. Also every situation is relative. U could retire without a home in U.K. and still get by with your pension etc. Poverty is relative and defined by your level of greed
At the end of the day we are saying the same thing. I am an African, not white. I dont really care about the struggles of the whites. And there is no where I said we could not make money as trades people - in fact I was against us gathering and gathering degrees. I never said you must have a home - in fact, I am not too keen on people buying houses - And poverty is relative - and the video also attested to that. Thank you so much for your views. At the end of the day, we want Africans to thrive whether in UK, Canada UDA or wherever, right?
But most Nigerians I know right here in the USA are doing great. They have their own businesses and making bank. They aren't billionaires but they aren't struggling.
Poor culture is Africa biggest problem The problem is we continue fooling ourselves that’ our primitive culture is the best in the whole world 🌍 because we always help each others. Your relative in Africa can continue having babies because of his brother in overseas
You speak about Pastors teaching on Finances in Church. Well, check how all the men of God who are teaching about money and prosperity in church are heavily attacked by the same poor people. You can't help people who hate learning. If it is not school, Africans don't like reading or learning. Check the number of views on your video as compared to some smash or pass video and you will understand why.
Hmmm - talking about prosperity and tithes is not the same thing with teaching financial wisdom....which is what I think you are referring to. People are criticizing pastors just hammering on giving as a way of getting - what I am advocating is different. I am saying pastors can talk about things like budgeting, saving and investing - these are things that can help the congregation to build wealth rather than depending on giving and giving and hoping God will bless their giving. Hope you get my drift now. I understand that Africans are poor readers - that's a given but I hope we can change that trend as well and teach our children different.
9 out of every 10 buisness fail in the first 3 years in the U.S. Lady what you should do is learn a trade that works with your hands. Learn building construction, electrician or work with hair etc. These hand trades can make you money for yourself. Then invest in real estate

I am a psychologist by calling. Excellent video Sis. The term I now use to sum up the points you raised is "CIVILIZATIONAL DISORIENTATION". Unlike the Asians who come in with their own continuous civilization pretty much intact and stick to it, Africans came into the white man's world in chains or with little more than a bag full of hopes. And soon that sense of awe turns into disillusionment at which point survival instincts and basic character take over. In the final analysis, this salient problem can only be fixed back home. We have to TRANSFORM and learn quickly. Even our "foundational" black cousins in America, Canada, etc need a viable Africa to fully reclaim their humanity and dignity. Ire o

It's great to hear what you have mentioned but remember also the indigenous are poor as well they depend on social security. Immigrants take time to settle once they regularise their stay they are bogged with issues such as child care, shift pattern, low qualifications and lack of Job opportunities, long hours of work and poor working conditions. African immigrants will face tough life because they are indebted back at home and abroad at some instances you find yourself working hand to mouth. Racism is a factor as well both socially and economically likewise ethnicity and nepotism. But having mentioned all that you can still succeed, it depends how you measure success. Example if you want a big Mercedes Benz and a second hand Ford car the choice is yours as you will incur years of car finance.
Great job on the video, however, the $8000 estimate you gave for retirement homes is over estimated, at least that is not the average cost. Certainly you can find retirement homes who charge that much monthly but that is typically for people who have been in the higher earning brackets even before they retire. I live in Alberta and there are several retirement homes here that cost as little as $2,095 monthly. It's just like the amount many people pay as rent now. There are also people who opt for independent living which is not a home but not your own house. So you get some basic support but you mostly take care of yourself while living in an environment with seniors programs and a community of seniors around you.
Thanks but you are commenting on the wrong video but still, I am surprised that there are homes that cost that low - does that include the home stay and care as well? I would really like to know

It’s also about education as to why they do menial jobs…. Too many don’t value education to progress
@@tahliah6691 africans generally do value education especially West Africans from Ghana & Nigeria but the black tax and frankly unrealistic expectations about investing back home into economies that are unstable to their detriment does not help

Africans don't respect each other and we bring that divisive/tribal sentiments overseas with us from home so how do you expect us to build a force like the Asian, India and Arab communities?
ha!! We are in big trouble then
In America we have the 401k that is available to every worker , yet most Africans refuse to invest .They instead are investing in poultries in Africa ! You should set aside a certain amount monthly to invest /send to your African country/ family of course but the 401k and other investing can make you a millionaire !!
i get you - probably they just want to invest in their own country
@@dontgobroketv..ehh....you have the points well thought out...thanks...
...hope our ppl listen and take in what you say...
Gal I'll give you 100% on this one. You won a new subscriber.
Awwww - thanks so much! You are welcome to the family 👪
I see your point there and we probably need to dig deep into why this is happening and how to fix it
The burden of sending money back to Africa is a horror, diasporians suffer without thanks.
it really is a burden that can be managed
The idea of churches teaching financial literacy is a great one. However, it is not about to happen anytime soon. Churches are the number one leeches of finances. Anyone who becomes financially literate realizes the financial con they have been playing and severely reduces their contributions to churches or even cuts them off altogether. It is in the best interest of churches to keep people financially illiterate.
wow - you are not the first one with this opinion and its really sad that our churches are viewed this way. I seriously wish it were different
You are so welcome and thanks for sharing - Oh you are right - some will NOT just listen. God help us!!
Because most of us get the worse jobs. Even with a University degree.
Get a great job for black people is hard. In general get a good job is not about your skills but network, luck and God blessing.
After 19 years living abroad and 12 working in different countries as Engineer I am flighting to get my financial stability. 😊
It is really hard to me😊
I am really sorry to hear that. Low paying jobs is definitely one of the reasons for poverty among africans in diaspora - Its about luck right? God help us

@@dontgobroketvYou and the OP are right. Case in point, West Africans (particularly Nigerians) have the highest number of students in STEM per population percentage, both in the UK and the US.
1. Say no to black tax
2. Come correct to the abroad

No. You can force your way out of poverty. You don't need your community. Just because someone has a certain skin colour, he's not doomed to be poor. Develop a different mind - set. Learn business education.Learn the new language and the new culture. Don't be a hustler. Bring value to society. Your job isn't done, if you have worked your day- jobs.

Awww - thank you so so much. Hope you subscribed and shared to your network too
@secure954, OGA John haba, a day begins a story.
Thats why I said not all are struggling - the majority are - maybe not in the USA
Most people i know now has become wise. They give their trusted friends money for investment rather than family members.
some trusted family members but still got burned
Poor culture is Africa biggest problem
The problem is we continue fooling ourselves that’ our primitive culture is the best in the whole world 🌍 because we always help each others.
Your relative in Africa can continue having babies because of his brother in overseas
They do - not that they can - people plan their lives on another person's money
Thanks for this Information sis. You are one of the few people who is committed to saying the truth and reality about traveling to canada

@@dontgobroketv understanding is a very critical skill. I said nothing about tithing or offerings. Read my comment again, atleast five times.

“Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.” - Helen Keller. Godspeed, oh to be young and strong!
Ire o
Seems we are in for a long ride. I don't see us transforming and learning anytime soon...but who knows?

It's great to hear what you have mentioned but remember also the indigenous are poor as well they depend on social security. Immigrants take time to settle once they regularise their stay they are bogged with issues such as child care, shift pattern, low qualifications and lack of
Job opportunities, long hours of work and poor working conditions.
All round it is about choices. We do have a lot of responsibilities home and abroad but God help us

Keeping up with Jones, that really plagues us
It is crazy!!
