It's honestly a shame that dedicated tanks and healers aren't viable for anything but co-op in Dark Souls (and even then, it's probably better to just go for a normal build), considering how many spells you get that are completely useless for anything other than supporting your allies

Midir is probably the only boss that becomes much harder when you summon. His wide swings reaching for miles and the fact that you can never tell who has his aggro, i got my ass kicked so many times as a summon and i dont even die to midir in solo lmao
That's because with the average starting vitality level, you can wear the entire fallen knight set, use a katana, with the grass cress shield and still be under 70%. At worst you wear havel's ring, which you can get in the adjoining area from an easy miniboss.
I had this guy named Billy Bob basically carry me through this fight. I wasn't doing half bad but he didn't get hit once so in the end my only job was to not screw up lol.
I had a guy asking for help in Steam forum to carry him fighting sister friede because he could not take it anymore after try killing her for more than 7 hours and failed, he especially begged me to wear skull ring and always take the aggro because he wasn't really good dodging her attacks, in return i asked him to use his strongest weapon to utilize the moment, basically working together to accomplish it, ofc i also attacked as well not just dodging. I remember how happy he was when we did it, even tho some people might think it as "trivial", thing like this seeing people happy sometimes give me happiness as well..
Vgr should be infinite as well, faith and int should be balanced just a bit differently because midir is weak to lightning (but he can still use dark magic so…) otherwise though, pretty damn accurate.
Idk, man. I tried that sorcery when I first killed Midir, and with the right Intelligence level, it works like a charm. I think the last time I used that spell, before my old PS4 took a dump on me & died, I did about 600-700 damage even on the late-game enemies.

It's a bad idea to fight Midir with summons. Because of how massive he is, it's a fight that is essentially required to be done solo so you can keep aggro on yourself the whole time, because if you have other people there, with his range and hitboxes as well as the AOE attacks, it makes him completely unpredictable and a nuisance to engage accordingly.
On my first playthrough my friend helped me with a few bosses, Midir included, it took us 43 tries to kill him, and it was the last time we were gonna try before going to Gael for us both(he hadnt killed Gael yet) and start NG+, it was funny cuz we were used to play games with taunt mechanics so we repeatadly screamed at each other "FOR FUCKS SAKE GET HIM OFF ME" "THERE'S NO VIABLE AGGRO PULL IS DARK SOULS YOU DUMB FUCK"... Damn, I miss that week stuck on Midir

I died to Midir a fair bit my first time facing him so I got okay at beating him. Then, I didn't know what else to do as I beat Gael after him so I helped more people kill midir. The hardest part ended up being too many people summoned and the Host dying to Midir even without aggro.
With 3 people. One heads straight towards Midir, One runs in a wide arc to get a perfect but impossible to find opening. One transforms into a ladder with the white branch and yells slurs at it. Or that’s how my trio was like…

I remember my first kill on him, i was in newgame of some sort, and i had roughly 70-80 strength, my thoughts were interesting, because i took him on alone, duel wielding the FUGS, i did over 1k damage a hit on his head, while blasting live to win, honestly, was amazing

Most of the time summons are at the bonfire, but as other people comment it's best to solo as his hp is increased and his attacks are too unpredictable.
Oh the pain, I remember helping some rando with Midir, and he got killed, and somehow I managed to land the last hit to Midir before being sent back... I still don't know if that counted or if he had to do it again.
@@necrocyborg5453 Actually it depends, there's a cooldown that counts when the boss is considered vanquished so there is a very small fraction of time where you can actually kill him, die afterwards and still get the reward. Basically if the "Boss defeated" message shows up before the death screen you're good.
i had an host who had trouble with learning/dodging Midir's pattern and always ended up being 2 shoted by one of his combo. They also wanted to re-summon me everytime and each time they tried another set of armor. They even tried to dress like me in case my clothes had some kind of magical power (they didn't i just wanted to light roll and i used tear of denial and great heal in case i was hit). After a dozen of tries (and a few annoying abductions by the judicator because apparently i was the only summon sign available to be spear of the church) they took back a basic armor set and only took their binnocular in their hands because they noticed i could dodge Midir and heal. When we entered the arena, they sprinted the most far away from Midir while i approached and started to fight. At first i thought they were searching for their souls, but then i saw them watching from far away with their binnocular. And that's how they watched me solo Midir (who had more HP) with half health, half estus and light roll, casting my spells when i got hit, and i managed to be aggressive enough so we didn't have the bad tantrum lazer in phase 2. it was a really cool experience !
I prefer his higher hp, what I don't prefer is his Coop AI. Midir will cancel combos into other combos, it's so hard to tell which person he wants to destroy which is incredibly detrimental for his laser attacks, he is erratic as fuck and it just feels like he snorted 3 lines of coke before the fight. Also collateral go brrrrr

I find it actually easier to fight him by yourself. This way he does not spin around like a merry-go-round and you can actually hit him. You do a lot more damage as well

@@LuM4rex If we're talking movesets alone, yeah apart from Fume Knight, Sir Alonne and maybe Ivory King there isn't really a challenging fight in DS2. HOWEVER, DS2 has this bad habit of his to deal absolutely gargantuous amounts of damage to compensate for weaker movesets, and some bosses become really obnoxious because of that. Ancient Dragon isn't mechanically hard but he's super boring and his damage is so high it's easy to get oneshot, Blue Smelter Demon just two-shots you anyway once he ignites his sword because it wouldn't be fun to go through Iron Passage merely once per run. Royal Rat Authority can easily toxic you to death... And of course, the absolute hardest fight of DS2, coupled with the fact he's a gank reskin boss fight stuck in the absolute worst area Fromsoft has ever created, the infamous Lud&Zallen boss fight in Frigid Outskirts. That boss is bullshit to its finest. Aava's wonky hitboxes, Aava's insane damage but make it double so the attacks don't jell together at all and you get struck by unavoidable combos of insane damage, regeneration buff because why not and all of that while your nerves are fucking melting because it's the twentieth time you had to go through Reindeer Fuckland just to face them.
I loved the intricacies Fromsoft put into the midir fight, especially the part where he windmill punches you like a 10 year old. Very enjoyable much hard.
It is still bullshit how Bonny crippled Joe again by shooting him (she missed three times this Joe said “I’LL DO IT MYSELF”) because she was “going to lose him”. Meanwhile in season 8 or so she had an affair. Better for Joe to have legs, be a douche and hyper active instead of a docile cripple. Truly a Shakespearean tragedy.
I hear all of these people saying that Midir is harder to fight with summons. Explain how I lost 50+ embers trying to kill Midir on my first time around, with at least 15-30 of those embers being from solo attempts. I had a Fume Greatsword and a metric ton of lightning resin. Full Tsorig cosplay. Around 40 or 50 vigor. Fast rolling, too. Wasn't very rusty from inactivity, so I was playing fairly decently, at the least. I mean, after finally killing Midir, I got Gael on my second or third try. Maybe even the first attempt - my memory is fuzzy, so I'm not too sure. Certainly no more than the third try. I think the issue is less the strategy against Midir - it's just that it's Midir. Either you are a madman ascended beyond the rest, and can clap Midir like how a pack of 80 hyenas clap a lion, or you struggle through it like the lion (or a few) against the 80 hyenas.

DS3 gives more time out after the coop dies around like 30 seconds so he got the kill but is nearly instantly for the host so no....

Midir will cancel combos into other combos, it's so hard to tell which person he wants to destroy which is incredibly detrimental for his laser attacks, he is erratic as fuck and it just feels like he snorted 3 lines of coke before the fight. Also collateral go brrrrr

I find it actually easier to fight him by yourself. This way he does not spin around like a merry-go-round and you can actually hit him. You do a lot more damage as well
Funny thing is, I went Solaries armor and tried to help someone against midis only to fail miserably

I don't know any strong ds2 bosses, except for the Ivory King and the smoky knight.
@@LuM4rex If we're talking movesets alone, yeah apart from Fume Knight, Sir Alonne and maybe Ivory King there isn't really a challenging fight in DS2.
HOWEVER, DS2 has this bad habit of his to deal absolutely gargantuous amounts of damage to compensate for weaker movesets, and some bosses become really obnoxious because of that. Ancient Dragon isn't mechanically hard but he's super boring and his damage is so high it's easy to get oneshot, Blue Smelter Demon just two-shots you anyway once he ignites his sword because it wouldn't be fun to go through Iron Passage merely once per run. Royal Rat Authority can easily toxic you to death...
And of course, the absolute hardest fight of DS2, coupled with the fact he's a gank reskin boss fight stuck in the absolute worst area Fromsoft has ever created, the infamous Lud&Zallen boss fight in Frigid Outskirts. That boss is bullshit to its finest. Aava's wonky hitboxes, Aava's insane damage but make it double so the attacks don't jell together at all and you get struck by unavoidable combos of insane damage, regeneration buff because why not and all of that while your nerves are fucking melting because it's the twentieth time you had to go through Reindeer Fuckland just to face them.
Co-op can help of everyone’s competent at dodging, it’s the AI companion that’s useless and more of a liability.

I hear all of these people saying that Midir is harder to fight with summons.
Explain how I lost 50+ embers trying to kill Midir on my first time around, with at least 15-30 of those embers being from solo attempts.
I had a Fume Greatsword and a metric ton of lightning resin. Full Tsorig cosplay. Around 40 or 50 vigor. Fast rolling, too.
Wasn't very rusty from inactivity, so I was playing fairly decently, at the least. I mean, after finally killing Midir, I got Gael on my second or third try. Maybe even the first attempt - my memory is fuzzy, so I'm not too sure. Certainly no more than the third try.
I think the issue is less the strategy against Midir - it's just that it's Midir. Either you are a madman ascended beyond the rest, and can clap Midir like how a pack of 80 hyenas clap a lion, or you struggle through it like the lion (or a few) against the 80 hyenas.
Just give me my greatsword and I'll show midir what's up
