The Surface Pro doesn't use a truncated version of Windows 11. It is just normal Windows 11. It's arguably the best version of Windows 11 because it's not full of Bloatware.

Windows 11 goes into tablet mode when you detach the keyboard (or put a 2 in 1 into tablet mode) and it's very good, it makes some UI tweaks that really makes using it as a tablet usable, while still being full power of Windows

I bought the Lenovo SD laptop because of the power and fans problem of other laptops. My work laptop is a6 core R5 with a decent amount of RAM but it's hot and noisy and the fans come on for any little thing and stay on when I'm just running MS Teams!
What I need is a laptop that doesn't generate fan noise while I'm on a call, can handle Visual Studio and doesn't get almost hot enough to burn me in daily use. The Lenovo promises to be that and more. The massive amount of battery life and 3k touchscreen are just a bonus at that point

side button is for the context menu, if you have more then they're for extra features like binding tools to them. back eraser is for less commonly used shortcuts and the eraser (click and hold to launch a program or take a screenshot). Really it's user preference, but the lack of an eraser and actual button on the apple pencil is a sticking point for me. I want that tactile feel that an actual button has, the squeeze was too easy to trigger accidentally and annoying to try and apply when I intended it (I don't have the steadiest of hands).

Surprised on the keyboard cost. I thought £300 / $300 is for the latest new design and you can pick up the legacy / older design for around £150 / $150.
Lucky I have an old surface pro X keyboard and even older pen I can use.

But this, this might be the best option as I won't have to worry so much about my actual work apps..
This is interesting I must say..
Get a good beefy windows laptop for plug in work and get a windows tab for on the go work.

Yeah, Surface Pro is both Tablet and Computer. Something iPad Pro is not though it can be used somewhat as a computer (clunky). I am using the Adeway matte screen protector. Love it. I use the Rock Paper Pencil with the metal tip on My iPad Pro 2018 and love that one too. Very close. I am trying to find out which I like most (iPad Pro 2018 or Surface Pro 8) and will upgrade one and probably just somewhat still use the other.

Thank you for such a practical review. I'd love to hear how the device works with OneNote. Particularly if it gets hot while using OneNote and presenting for prolong periods of time. I currently use a SP9 x86 device and after 20 minutes writing to OneNote and using an external display the device gets very hot, especially so when charging. Thanks again!

    • @togoxo
      @togoxo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

it probably wont get hot. its using the low end soc and it probably uses up to like 20 watts then its probably slowing itself down to not turn the fans on. so no i will be fine and presenting on an external display is like running another monitor and if the display is 4k it will be really intensive. you can mirror your surface 9's screen instead of extending it if you dont want it to get hotter when running an external display but computer and tablets and phones always run hot so if its not burning your hand too much, its completely normal and is not an issue. macbook airs run at 115C under load internally and most high performance windows laptops or thin windows laptops run at 100C under load too and its designed to be that way so that it will not slow down to stay cooler or turn up the fan louder.

OK, PSA, stop bending the keyboard backwards under the tablet. Just rip it off, that's why it's magnetic.
I've been using Surface Pros since the Pro 2, and... yeah, no, these break. There's a ribbon cable under the cover and if that cracks you're SoL. there's no way to fix it, no way to replace it. It's glued under the expensive Alcantara wrapper. You just have to go buy another keyboard, and these are unreasonably expensive as it is.

Interesting how excited you are for face ID. I've used a Surface Pro 8 with Windows Hello for the past couple of years, and it fails frequently where I have to input my PIN to unlock the device half of the time. My password manager can utilize Windows Hello to open the program, but I turned it off due to WIndows Hello taking too long to "boot up" and try to find my face. Its faster to just type a pin in quick.
I recently got an M3 Macbook Pro for my new job, and the fingerprint sensor is SOOOO much faster and more consistent.
I will say though, the times when I sit down, open my Surface, and it unlocks before I even think about unlocking it is magical. That just... doesn't happen too often XD.

I actually think Apple Watch unlock is pretty nice on Mac, might not be the most secure but good for most people. The best thing about Apple Watch unlock is you can put your MacBook in clamshell mode and not worry about- even though Hello on my Surface Pro 9 and Pro 11 are great (I did have issues with the Pro 8) you have to keep the device open/facing you.

I believe the i5 don't have a fan at all and the i7 does. But... with this new device, heating shouldn't be a problem because this ARM processor won't get "worked up" like an Intel processor.

My current pc is a zbook with an 11th gen i7 with a 3070 in an aluminium chassis. Gets wayy too hot just web browsing with a few things running in the background. Also means battery life is abysmal. I just need a windows machine that doesn’t get needlessly hot and has good battery life that I can work on a long flight because I currently can’t even plugged in - my zbook has a 200watt brick which is beyond the range for airplane sockets!

Windows is just Windows, so you'll have the full Windows 11 Pro on there. I still use the old Surface Pen that uses quad A batteries and prefer that slightly to my Apple Pencil. I prefer macOS to Windows 11.

It's a computer. It runs Windows. It has tablet capability also. Widows hello is awesome. The pen is better than Apple's just for notetaking-think college students. An eraser on the pen like a pencil. Wow!!!!!
I'd go for a version that has an attached keyboard and 15inch screen.
Could be buy Apple M1 for me.....gathering information.
Also can the SSD be user upgraded????

Bummer the dock doesn't work. Thought USB4 has or can have features of TB3. I have a few docks I can try. This could be a big downside to Windows ARM.

I've now tried 4 Docks on base (Plus) SP 11. All worked fine.
      1) Older Microsoft Dock 2 on the Surface Connect port
      2) Satechi USB4 mini dock (w external 2k monitor)
      3) Anker 778 Tunderbolt 4 Dock (tested w/ 1 monitor)
      4) Pluggable Universal Display Link Dock (tested w/ 2 monitors). Driver installed automatically.

I bought this because I love using windows on my PC, and I wanted to have the best display. I’ll be honest using windows on this thing sucks especially with the touchscreen. One of the worst batteries I have ever had in a device. It was great for the first month or two now the battery can drain in two hours of Internet surfing. the screen is a massive letdown. It is sharp, but looks horrible and does not pop. I was so letdown I bought the Samsung S tablet. The screen on the Samsung blows me away every time I use it. It pops!!! using the Samsung with your finger is awesome. It’s incredibly responsive and easy and has a very cool vibration. The battery on the Samsung still last forever amazing. To my great surprise, the Microsoft tablet freezes up and has crashed a dozen times since I’ve owned it the Samsung tablet or my windows PC never crashes. I wasted my money on this microsoft thing. I wish I could get my money back.
