    Bernardo Faria is a 5x World Champion. Bernardo started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Juiz de Fora - MG, Brazil at the age of 14 in 2001. After receiving the Black Belt from his first instructor Ricardo Marques in 2008, He moved to Sao Paulo to join BJJ legend Fabio Gurgel and his Alliance team. After many years of training and winning many major titles, Bernardo moved to NYC in 2013 to train and teach at Marcelo Garcia Academy. In 2015 Bernardo achieved his dream of winning the IBJJF World Championship Open class title and his division, doing the double Gold and becoming the 1st in the IBJJF Ranking and also chosen as the best athlete of 2015.
    Bernardo Faria has now taken on the mission to share some of the lessons, techniques, experiences and more that he has learned along in his 16 years and counting as a BJJ student, teacher and world class competitor.

    As a white belt, this is the video I needed, not a fan of close guard, but done well it is such a powerful tool in the toolbox. So I will continue to work at it and get better.

    I love the systemic approach. No more hail mary armbars and triangles from bottom closed guard. Its too hard no gi.
    Break posture, advance position (clamp, top lock, side scizzor, double unders, etc), then sweep or submit.

    I’m by far still a white belt but just got back into a bjj gym after 10 years away. My old training trained me to be more comfortable in closed guard. At that time I was about 150lb but I am 5’11” with long legs. Almost everyone I trained with outweighed me 75-150lbs. That said I’d be on bottom a lot and having that big of a size disadvantage I didn’t want them passing guard. Luckily I did have a couple teammates closer to my size but this built a very tight guard for me.

      ok bjj class where everyone's around 225-300 lb, man that's one tough place for small guy :D

      It was a small gym. We had a few people below 200 but the few that was always there were 200-300lb the near 300lb was only one guy. Also this was an mma gym not just bjj
