I've heard of the mod for SH3. didn't know it was also available for the other silent hill games until I read your comment. I should actually try it out sometime.
I love SH2 Remake and don't get me wrong. But I think this video explains it well on why the prison was my favorite area in the original to my least favorite in the remake. In the remake the prison is cool but I felt it to be filled with to MANY monsters and it kind of took that quiet eerie feeling that the prison had in the original.
@@metalphantom4425 Sorry, the moment you used "Cry some more" is the moment you lost me. Anyone who spouts that junk sounds like a manchild who never grew out of being a snot-nosed kid on the playground screaming at other kids when they don't get their way. Learn to actually use your words, maybe?
@@Terminated_Account , I think the issue is that the reasons often espoused by those that dislike the remake are almost arbitrary nitpicking, rather than a proper nuanced judgement. If you didn't have that rather odd crowd that lost their minds for the most inane reasons, your own criticism would probably be better received. Basically, nuanced criticism is certainly welcome, but you'll be lumped into that crowd unless given a reason not to. Everyone is hyper after that ordeal.
I find more disturbing the same level in the remake. Those fucking mannequins act like spiders, resurrect when you never expect them too and get too annoying.
the problem with remake is they threw a lot of enemies all at once and it ruins the ambiance since you became too focused on combat instead of running ayaw from enemies. The sound design is a bit overdone. In the OG there are places that is purely ambient.
I hate the remake cuz of how much it lost when they made the camera a generic over the shoulder action shooter camera, or in short: literally re4 remake
The remake didn’t loose anything with the over the shoulder I played both re4 remake and silent hill remake also played both originals and it’s not really anything like re4 boohoo they added over the shoulder I felt more tense and horror playing the sh2 remake than the original the camera angle helps with that too adds more to it as well
@krokodilomot not OP, but I do agree. Imo They made the prison too modern stylistically, and it doesn't have this ancient forbidden vibe to it. Also the level design is more complex but also more "video gamey" with a blatant resident evil style puzzle theme and the sectioned off branches you go down one at a time. There is also wayyyy more enemies which can be intense but at that point in the game you start to feel the length and the long stretches of combat grow tiresome It is definitely the low point in the remake, and in the original it was one of my favorites Its still good but its a downgrade
@@michaelelmes2135 You pretty much nailed it - while the prison isn't as overstretched as some other areas, it's much less interesting both visually and from gameplay perspective. Labirynth is even longer, but at least has it's moments
@Andriej69 yeah I think the labyrinth is worse than the OG too, but like you say certain moments are some highlights of the whole game. Particularly Angela's stuff But damn on hard mode those dangling enemies are soooo annoying and unfun to fight or run past. Really put me in a bad mood for that whole section
It's funny how this level went from the scariest in the original, to barely even mildly interesting in the remake. Like they knew it wasn't scary, so they filled it with infinity zillion enemies to provoke a response
Yeah I’ve been running the game over and over trying to get all the endings and I gotta say the prison is definitely a slog. I’ve nailed down each area to where I’m spending about 30 minutes to get thru them but even then every time I get to the prison I groan a little to myself knowing what’s coming next. Can’t put my finger on it but there’s nothing all that scary about the prison which should’ve been the easiest area for them to nail. I’ll give props to the prison church and showers for having a little bit of character but the rest of the area just doesn’t give me that uneasy feeling the original did. Especially the boar section. Save the one jump scare in the women’s bathroom when you try to leave after investigating the locked stall, it’s just a nonstarter for me.
My issue with the area is that they made it significantly longer than the original and filled it with so many puzzles and numerous respawning monsters. Which is ironic bc the og toluca prison barely even had that much monsters, it's the emptiness and brooding ambience sound that added the creepiness to it. Meanwhile the remake completely abandoned all that
I recently played the game with the first person mod and I must say that it is a unique experience

@@ShrubbYoshii11 The mod is insane and let you switch on original, tps or fps caméra on the fly
easily the area that stuck out the most to me on my first playthrough of SH2. The ambience is just unmatched
Few moments have made me say “oh god” out loud than going down the 4th or 5th giant hole in the prison

yes!! glad i am not the only one. it got annoying and actually ruined the mood. It got too action-y. And just annoying.
So glad you're using the original for this video
"Feat the camera" the remake has no camera style, its generic action shooter.

Another seriously eerie location is the forest world in silent hill 4
The water prison is also unforgettable for me.

I wouldn’t say RE4 it felt more like The Last of Us to me.
