@An Orthodox Philosophy Ok, understood. But personally, I don't the see the quoted line as a nihilist thing. It just seems that it is trying to tell people that action is required in order to live better. I think time can heal wounds, it certainly did for me, but for that it is required some will and responsibility by our side. If one keeps on blaming life for their suffering and does nothing about their misery they will keep themselves miserable. If they rely solely on time to figure out their problems, they will most likely continue to suffer until the end.
Started listening to Opeth way back in high school, around 2011~2012, for literally a decade. I started with their 'metal' era with, beginning with "Ghost Reveries", which made me go down a rabbit hole and listen to everything they'd released. In this decade of constantly following up with their sound, they were there during my ups and downs, helping in so many aspects of my life, metal-wise and mental wise. I had to deal with personal issues, I felt lonely a bunch of times in those years, and even struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts. Opeth's music to me was an escape from reality, I could always go back and find comfort, I felt connected with so many of Mikael's lyrics, it made me rethink my life decisions and start to improve. Thankfully I've found a way to deal with my inner problems and traced a well tough path for my life. I managed to overcome my depression, which I never felt ever again so far, managed to get my bachelor's degree, and started to take care of my body by eating healthy, exercise and and stopping using drugs. And all and all never abandoned listening to their music. It helped me a lot. I mean it. Got me an Opeth tattoo on my arm, I dunno, I am grateful for knowing this band, thankful for all the good times I had with them, and plus, ITS FUCKING AWESOME In ten years, I have not been able to attend an Opeth concert, because they rarely played in my hometown, Sao Paulo, Brazil. And this was on my bucket list, for years I've been wanting to see them live for the first time. The new album is great, and i definitely understand what Mikael meant by heaviness doesnt have to neccesarily mean growls, but fuck do i miss them it gave so many layers and made the songs so unique.
This video was released at the beginning of the end of what had previously been a happy relationship with a beautiful young woman. I'm not sad the relationship is gone, it had run its course but, this song sounds like the death rattle of it and it makes me feel like a moping broken hearted teenager.
A new fan. This song is like the story book to my past life. The music just gives off those vibes and brings a smile to my face every time I hear this track.
I like the way you play with the words. Every song that you made gives a message that could be understood by analyzing these poetical words. An awesome work again, keep doing it!
My thought exactly! The best Opeth's clean vocal album this is! The problem with the previous albums is there are always tracks that sounds like just a filler, even in Pale Communion (my previous best clean vocal album) but all tracks in In Cauda Venenum are stands out! A magical piece of music journey from start to finish! Ah, did you listen to the Sweddish version? Imo the whole vibe is much much better than the English one.
I loved this album immediately, Sorceress is the one that took time for me but now I think it rules as well! Heritage is the album I listen to the least, I love all other Opeth albums.
The video has that lugubrious and empty air that I love ... Opeth does not disappoint, its sound has changed but it is still interesting and very creative... Long live Opeth
extremely unique song, i only properly listened to OPeth this year and after some serious listening i think this track is one of my favourites. so original, deep and nostalgic
First collab was actually on Blackwater Park (2001). Wilson produced it and does part of the vocals on the chorus of Bleak, for example. He has other guest spots, as well. But yeah, I can definitely hear some Deadwing influence, and some stuff from In Absentia as well, but I think I hear more of his (Wilson's) solo work here, especially Raven
I never quite get why people compare Opeth to Steven Wilson’s work, besides the obvious *cough *cough blackwaterpark *cough *cough damnation. To me their work only sounds vaguely similar at best. I think they’re just like-minded musicians.
Somehow this song feels more 'Steven Wilson' than Steven's recent solo work. Opeth (and Mikael) is evolving to a new sound and I am absolutely loving it!
@@pascalg16 I got some new headphones and I can totally hear it now. I always thought Mikael tracked vocals at home based off of an interview I saw but I think that was for Heritage or Pale Communion idk
The video reminds me of that old, really eerie and disturbing game called "The Cat Lady". I love the style, I just wonder if the artist that made this video was at all inspired by that video game.
I was listening to this song and King Diamond Sleepless Nights vibes were tapping my shoulder. But overall totally different songs just some vibes from the past.
The style of the video reminds me of Steven Wilson's solo piece called Drive Home. This is a beautiful song from Opeth and a great video to go along with it.

There comes a time in life when death may come too slow
Honesty in the necrology
The offspring smear your name in print
You have waited far too long but Spring is set in bloom
You have conquered love inside yet sorrow is your doom
The debts are long since paid, inheritance is set
Still agitation reels inside, lest you forget
Lest you forget
At sunrise Friday morning a haven for your sins
The written dedication etched into your skin
Time soon heal the wounds you bare
Between old pride and desperate prayers
Time won't heal any wounds you bare
A set few years of your life are stolen
Light cast on the obvious
Behold the white when it's faded golden
A stranger's truth holds no water here
But soon we may have learned
Dead sympathy, a aversion proceeds
A voice lives in your chest that comforts wary thoughts
Yet the brook is still too wide to bridge the gap you've sought
Honesty in the necrology
The offspring smear your name in print
You trade your vices every day religiously
A pack of vultures wait for everyone to see
You gave away too much, a harness on your kin
For any transgressions never mirrored mortal sin
Mortal sin
You're still alone
The day in zenith now, you made it through the night
Voice of perdition came and went far out of sight

Opeth saved my life in 2003. I'm so grateful to have stumbled upon them. Blackwater...Deliverance..mind blown to this day.
This song was depressing, but truth. Hardships of relationships. Nothing is forever. Ever-changing. Horns up!!
Chris Cornell song You Know My have same parts with this song. Listen You Know My Name bridge to last chorus and compare with this song part from 1:05 to 1:20
I found a post by Mikael on Opeth's facebook from around the time Cornell died. He was talking about this song and how he loves it.
Glad I'm not the only one that went um hold on...

th-cam.com/video/YnzgdBAKyJo/w-d-xo.html - You know my name
Nobody tell Vicki, she'll sue them!
Oh my god wow you are right! The melodies are almost identical.
The idea of family in this day and age. Never take love for granted. The opposite side is misery.....
The entire opening was pure BEATLES! Nicely done, Mikael!
It reminded me of something that I could not find out... until I read this comment. It's like a darker version of across the universe 😁
siriusisastar I was thinking the same...even if after the opening change it seems that the Beatles are jealously guarded in the phrasing
It's the verse of The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill: th-cam.com/video/J39DC9t0I5o/w-d-xo.html
The video depicts the songs brilliantly. Very deep and beautiful and true. Just like the song. Indeed a Universal Truth!
The new album is great, and i definitely understand what Mikael meant by heaviness doesnt have to neccesarily mean growls, but fuck do i miss them it gave so many layers and made the songs so unique.
opeth before: repeats riffs and lines over 100 times
opeth now: "let's make a good melody but never repeat again"
That's the ultimate prog move
I just keep repeating 5:13 to 5:30. Those strings thooooo.
Their riffs and lines used to be brilliant and worth repeating...
trev1978 they still are
Repeated riffs and lines over 100 times before? Are you high man?
Incredible! So beautiful and dark and heavy and emotional all at the same time without sounding contrived. This is a masterpiece.
Re-living your memories in your own version, vicariously through other people in the media, as an attempted coping mechanism toward pain.
This album grew on me immensely. I was pretty indifferent to it upon release but it has become my favorite of the non growl era records
Yeah I hated it for the first 4 listens, by the 5th listen I started to get it. Definitely one of the best post watershed albums.
The mix is terrible, IMHO which does it no favors.
But yes, the best of their post-DM releases.
I loved this album immediately, Sorceress is the one that took time for me but now I think it rules as well! Heritage is the album I listen to the least, I love all other Opeth albums.
Only been 2 minutes and I want to cry man. I can feel this video so much.
One of the best songs from one of their best albums.
1:05 - 1:20 Chris Cornell - You know my name
This couldn’t be more perfect. Opeth. ❤️
Thanks Andi for loving and supporting us this far; Hope we all get to hit on the stage soon!!! Lots of love from Opeth 🖤
Absolutely phenomenal
So much hate in this comments section!
While i overall still prefer old Opeth, i think this song is excellent
Exactly...it's *them*...and I love it ALL
The video has that lugubrious and empty air that I love ... Opeth does not disappoint, its sound has changed but it is still interesting and very creative... Long live Opeth
Thanks Marcela for loving and supporting us this far; Hope we all get to hit on the stage soon!!! Lots of love from Opeth 🖤
Thank you for putting out both versions. I personally vastly prefer the Swedish version of each song, but that's not true for everyone.
extremely unique song, i only properly listened to OPeth this year and after some serious listening i think this track is one of my favourites. so original, deep and nostalgic
Director of the video is same as Drive Home's and Raven that refused to sing - Jess Cope
she's phenomenal
There some Porcupine Tree vibes to this track, sounds awesome!
They definitely influenced each other for the best, on both sides.
If you could name a Porcupine Tree track that sounds similar I’d like to know. I love this song but know much about PT. Thanks!
Deadwing, song or Album, for sure. Mikeal plays on it, an where I think they collaborated for the first time.
@@christianayalacruz1095 bleak is a great track
A man evolves from death metal god to the Musical Mastermind
Best song of the album. They should start playing it live.
How very Steven Wilson
"Let's see if we could merge the videos for Routine and Raven.."
well Jess Cope did it
I thought the same when I saw the thumbnail
Ironically steven wilson posted a screenshot of him playing this exact song before the release of the album
Man, why is nobody talking about Fredrik backing vocals? DUDE WENT OFF!!! 1:48
I might be mistaken but I think the studio albums are all Mikael. Fredrik is amazing live tho
@@blackmetalbreadstick No that's Mikael with Fredrik here.
@@pascalg16 I got some new headphones and I can totally hear it now. I always thought Mikael tracked vocals at home based off of an interview I saw but I think that was for Heritage or Pale Communion idk
The concepts covered, solo here with this one are so POWERFUL.
The most underrated masterpiece
Mikael and Steven mixed really well after Storm Corrosion.
Love how they can put together such a beautiful , yet powerful song.. Amazing video as well 🖤🤘
Thanks sweetheart for loving and supporting us this far; Hope we all get to hit on the stage soon!!! Lots of love from Opeth 🖤
#1 band. Opeth covered a lot of ground in Metal, and I'm an old fan who loves their earlier discography, but this new album is top notch. It's epic!
These are musical masterpieces.
A freakin' audio and visual masterpiece...
Can't believe I'm going to see these legends in 2 days I'm gonna cry when I see em
@@pritambanik7228 see you there m8
can't wait to hear them play Ghost of Perdition. I might cry.
@@suhebkhan9054 fuck yes mate fuck yes
@@suhebkhan9054 doubt they do that anymore tho cause Mikael doesn't growl anymore
@@applepeel1662 I know man. Just imagine him doing it just for the crowd😭
00:57 - 01:04
giving me goosebumps since 2019
Opeth why your songs so good?
Listening and brings peace
Could tell straight away it was a Jess Cope video. Brilliant work yet again.
Bridge reminds me of You know my name - Chris Cornell
I was humming that for ages trying to guess where i had heard it. Thanks for putting me out of my misery.
Yeah its totally the same..
The video reminds me of that old, really eerie and disturbing game called "The Cat Lady". I love the style, I just wonder if the artist that made this video was at all inspired by that video game.
Opeth nailed it yet again! ❤ Mikael you beauty. I am lucky that i am alive to hear this band. ❤
I was listening to this song and King Diamond Sleepless Nights vibes were tapping my shoulder. But overall totally different songs just some vibes from the past.
Opeth meets Riverside.
The style of the video reminds me of Steven Wilson's solo piece called Drive Home. This is a beautiful song from Opeth and a great video to go along with it.
amazing song. just saw Opeth live 2 weeks ago. They sounded unbelievable.
Probably the only band whose live is better than actual song.
This is one of those songs that simply make me cry. It’s such a work of art… so haunting
This song uses the same melody as "you know my name" by audioslave 1:06-1:19, 2:03-2:017, etc
I thought exactly the same!
2:59 is also Riverside-ish
I love inter-influences
Damn, spot on.
Forever grateful for Opeth, thank you for this gorgeous song. Absolutely fantastic.
I really feel like I have to go to the Silver Spring show,I owe it to myself to experience this amazing band while I can,and I might not get the chance again, and if I don't I would really feel like I missed a golden opportunity and I would be kicking myself in the ass for eternity, they will definitely go down as one of the best metal bands ever🤟
How much “The-Raven-That-Refused-To-Sing.ish” is this?
I think the same... 🤔👀😒🙄
Same artist as Drive Home, Raven and Drag Ropes!
Yes.
I guess you mean the video clip.... because in terms of music their similarities are not many.
@@blekmetal8140 yep, video
Family, eh? What a great Thanksgiving song.
1:04 to 1:18 Chris Cornell - Casino Royale
AdnanOkko almost exactly the same melody.
this song is soothing my soul
Thanks sweetheart for loving and supporting us this far; Hope we all get to hit on the stage soon!!! Lots of love from Opeth 🖤
Opeth are great with or without growls
Can hear some solid morbid Angel influences.
Dear Opeth: I was never a fan of yours. And who knows if i will ever be. The reason im writing this crap unnoticed message is very simple: Your last work is absolutely amazing. I am completely surrendered. There's no words to describe your last work. It is absolutely breathtaking. Thank you so much for the emotions you shared with me (us). Unique. Paulo
Well at least he understood before he dies. There are things that need to be natural and can't be controlled especially love.
What an amazing video that compliments the song perfectly and beautifully.
1:04 this part kinda sounds like Chris Cornell-You know my name
yep
Nice catch
Awesome and I love Opeth's solo's! Nice video too
Beautiful song and wonderfully uncomfortable visuals 🖤
Thanks Michelle for loving and supporting us this far; Hope we all get to hit on the stage soon!!! Lots of love from Opeth 🖤
Wow it was dark, sad, and beautiful at the same time
