I'm still impressed on this situation: my father has always shared some of my musical tastes, but he can't stand growls... so, I'm at the gates (lol) of graduate from my professional careeer (sociology), and twoo weeks ago my father showed up in my room and said "here, a gift from your degree achievement", giving me two Opeth tickets for the show here in Santiago, Chile. he said to me that in a city-to-city travel, he listened a whole entire album from Opeth and he loved it, even the growls, he is even listening to this in my absent. He also said to me that the second ticket was for inviting anyone I want to... I was about to invite my girlfriend (who also hates growls and barely hears soft metal and rock) , I really wanted to invite her, but when my dad told me his introduction to Opeth, I couldn't resist to invite him instead... we're seeing them tonight and I cannot wait
He said that he was proud of me and my goals being reached... but I'm actually proud of him and his evolution into musical taste, you know our generation is pretty much used to growls and shit, but when I see a 60's man getting into the growls and this kind of music overall, I can't feel otherwise but fucking pride
This is the greatest day of my life and I want to share it with you, the Opeth fanbase, because no matter who you are or we are you from, you are deeply connected to me by this band
Have a fucking nice day, all of you. Greetings from Chile, from the world's edge.

Still remember how I went into a electronics store while we waited for the train back on a school trip when I was in middle school ten years ago. Went to the CD section, saw this, didn't know about Opeth at all back then and took it because the cover looked interesting enough for me to pick it up. Played it right when I arrived back home later and immediately fell in love with them.

A Fair Judgement begins at 24:47, and might be my favorite Opeth track of all time. The piano strokes hold a foreboding quality that tingles my spine, and when Mikael Åkerfeldt's vocals enter the fray, my heart aches, with pleasure. The guitar work is masterfully descriptive towards a sadness and anguish many have felt before. Opeth are exceptional in their presentations, there is no denying this fact. In all actuality, this song soothes my soul.

“Myself and Martin Mendez are very excited to see the re-release(s)
of ”Deliverance” and ”Damnation” coming out. The 5.1 surround mix for
”Damnation” was done a while ago by my buddy and co-producer for both
albums, Steven Wilson, and I’ve been itching to have it released as it’s
simply stunning! My new-ish friend, Bruce Soord, has done a fantastic
remix for ”Deliverance”, literally giving new life to the record and
making me start loving it.Finally! It was with pure excitement I went
through the tracks, discovering them again. I’m especially impressed
with the sound of Martin Lopez drums but also baffled by how wicked and
strange this album is. I’m scratching my head wondering how the hell we
came up with these songs. On top of everything, our old-time head of
ART, Travis Smith, has touched up on the artwork having it looking great
    (bleak) too! Enjoy!”-Mikael

I received it today! I just finished the DTS mix of Deliverance and it was a whole new experience all together.I have not heard the stereo mix yet and I assume that's the new mix +Mic Hal is talking about...I will have to comment on that later.
As for the surround mix....oh my fuck ladies and gents! I really enjoyed the first 4 tracks just fine but I felt like I had finally heard Master's Apprentices and By The Pain I See In Others! Those are the two that blew me away the most....
I first got this album 11 years ago and this is like hearing for the first time all over again. I have all of their other 5.1 mixes and this one was definitely one of the most immersive and different front the original. The beautiful part is when it got to the clean parts you can hear Lopez and Mendez alone on the front L and R speakers and I had never realized how much of a chemistry they had together. You will hear drum work and bass lines you cant hear clearly on the original mix and it makes me remember why so many people miss Martin Lopez...his work is amazing here.
      On to Damnation.....

This is the first Opeth album I listened. I've listened the rest of their discography, and Deliverence is the best album they released by far (I'd say 'Deliverence' is the peak of Opeth with no doubt), but not the best they composed. They can make better songs (the songs 'The lotus eater' or 'The baying of the hounds' are enough proof), and this album could have been the start of something completely different and innovative, but they chose another path. Although I don't have any personal problem with that, I'll always wonder how the albums would sound if they decided to stick with Deliverence's style.

My Opeth Ranked Albums could be
      1.- Deliverance
      2.- Blackwater Park
      3.- Ghost Reveries
      4.- Damnation
      5.- Watershed
well... I will not say they are better than Still Life, but I can´t understand that album, well... the first 4 albums by Opeth I can´t understand them, but they are cool and awesome, by the way, the new Opeth isn´t really bad, I like In Cauda Venenum and Sorceress Too

I love all their records. I don't think there is a "better record", they are different... So, it seems to me pointless to compare them.

This album is so good. Damnit. I've gone through just about all Opeth albums recently and most keep surprising me with how good they are. MAYH, Morningrise, Blackwater park, Still Life, Orchid, Deliverance, Ghost reveries, Pale Communion... they're all so good.

After so much music (greek folk, metal, classical, but mainly rock, all kinds of it), I had to give Opeth a chance to finally find out the band that could truly calm me and give me strength in hard times. And every minute is a masterpiece, this is like constant Christmas with each song being a present.

"when Paolo first talked me about Jac (me), He told me he was a black metalhead who only listened to black metal and I imagined a giant dude, all pressed in black, with long black hair and thick angry eyebrows.
then I actually meet him, and he was like "hihihi, I'm vegetarian! :D"".

I was never that much of an Opeth fan, but saw them play at Download last month and they were amazing! The end of Deliverance totally blew me away and I have been listening my way through their albums since. If Tool didnt melt my idea of reality that weekend, Opeth, Dream Theatre and Tosca were all up at the top of the bands I saw.

I FCKN LOVE OPETH ! I don't know how Mikel does it- goes from a guttural belch into a beautiful and distinct singing voice, I cannot get enough. Every Opeth album is its own genius. I must admit it took awhile to get to love the post watershed works, but I damn sure do- even my doggos Mimi and Xerxes have their own favorite song lol that is how much Opeth I listen to lol

Thanks for the upload, trying to decide which Opeth albums to get first. I love the mixture of heavy and melodic, but I'm not a big fan of the growling vocals. I can tolerate some, the guy has an amazing voice I wouldnt mind getting the albums that have a good mixture of his "clean" and death metal vocals.

    • @MrBranh0913
      @MrBranh0913 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Ghost Reveries has the best mix of clean and growling vocals. Heritage, Damnation, and Pale Communion all have clean vocals exclusively. But they're not as heavy.
