She was arrested a cyber libel case that is what you didn't know,it was a case between her agency against a private individual, not the Phil govt.
I noticed that people who battled tyranny and dictatorship always had conviction cases from their own counties, which are expected and normal! She is still lucky to be alive now and sharing her valuable insights and experiences!
Funny thing is, a private citizen filed a libel case against her. And since she's alive, maybe that means that the dictator dont give a damn about her. 😂
I am from philippines. Maria Ressa is not popular here. There are plenty of critics more rabid than her, bad mouthing the government, but thei are not harmed. Its called democracy and it sucks. Maria ressa's case has nothing to do with her anti govt stand. A private citizen filed a libel case against her which has nothing to do with politics. Also Her company was receiving foreign funding which is against the constitution of the Philippines but that is not the reason she was sentenced to jail time. Her conviction was due to a businessman she libeled, and she lost the case in court. The government has nothing to do with the prosecution. This award body is either too lazy to do their own research relying on tabloids and imbalance news for their facts, or they are outright deceitful themselves.

Maria Ressa, I am so proud of you. Like you, I am an American-Filipino. I've never liked Duterte's way of ruling the Philippines. Too much oppression, too much killings, too much profanities. No class whatsoever. In fact, criminals adopted his style of extra judicial killings, hence the riding-in-tandem murders and gun for hires, etc. Killing is just as easy as 1 2 3, nowadays in the country. That's what I've noticed. And the people are still supporting him and his minions wholeheartedly! And the biggest mistake he did was, allowing China in bullying the Philippines and the Filipino people making ends meet in our oceans. That tipped the boat for me.
