- Steve Silva, a member of the Depeche Mode Global Fan Group, shares his story of survival in a conversation recorded during the year of the 20th anniversary of the attacks. This video has been condensed from the original recording to focus on Steve's amazing story. We will never forget.
The thing that is haunting is thinking about the number of people who died because they were reassured that everything was okay so they went back to their offices
People compalin about this on every single video but that was the right thing to do at the time. They didn't know another plane was coming. What they did know was that there were thousands of people evacuating the other building, hundreds of first responders trying to get into it, and tons of stuff falling from 80+ stories up. Why would they want another 10,000 people thrown into that mess when their building was untouched?
If a jet airliner crashed into the building next to mine, and if I knew there was fire, smoke, and debris, I would absolutely get out of my building, get away from being in such close proximity to the danger zone!
@@letuswalkinthelightofthelo5350 A lot of them didn't know a plane hit, and those that heard the rumors initially were under the delusion it was a "Cessna" not a commercial airliner
I agree. I learned that lesson from a much less significant experience. Snow storm came, and I knew I should leave work. But I was 21, and decided to wait until they said to leave. By the time they did, took me 4 hours to drive 10 miles to get home, passed countless wrecks, almost wrecked probably 5 times myself. Small event, but I took the lesson away, always do what you think is right. And when something unusual and/or dangerous is happening, get the hell out of wherever you're at.
That's why you trust your instincts and get the hell out of there.
My heart breaks for the 343 firefighters who ran into that death zone, trying to help others. 💔
So many precious lives lost. R.I.P.
These photos are amazing. I appreciate whenever someone is brave enough to share their stories and photos to help the rest of us round out the entire picture of what happened on 9/11. The photographs were haunting, yet some of them revealed the bravery of the first responders. Thank you, sincerely. ♥️
i have always said that the cameramen and photographers that recorded this event are severely under appreciated. they risked their lives to record one of the most massive events in modern history. braving that dust storm that’s undoubtedly filled with asbestos and all other types of horribly toxic particles. staying near/going towards the event just to have a record of it. we know so much from these photos and videos that will ensure the memory of that day remains unforgotten. they had a lot of foresight and did a very important job that day in a time where everybody didn’t have a high definition recording device on them 24/7.
There are the first pictures I’ve seen of what it was like going down the stairs. People are much further apart than I imagined.
I am glad that he mentioned the survivors. It’s tragic what happened to all the people that died, but I couldn’t imagine what people had to live with, especially those that survived that lost people along the way. We just visited the memorial, and I feel like I was starting to forget. Never forget! Never forget.
Yeah... that's what they say
It’s crazy but when I see the planes hitting the building(s), I often think the people that were on the floors where the planes entered were the lucky ones.
11:57 the first time ever I see the actual stair case and can picture it. I’ve been on a 9/11 documentary binge
Me too
Growing up I always made sure to watch every one that came out. Watch the early ones 2002-2005. Anatomy of the Collapse, 9/11 (CBS Special), In Memoriam (HBO Special), Zero Hour: Flight 11, The Man Who Predicted 9/11, Inside 9/11 by National Geographic ep. 1 &2 and conclude with The Flight that Fought Back. There was also another good one that covered a firehouse (Not the CBS special) it aired on Showtime or Miramax 2004-2005, hopefully someone knows it.
Same
Thousands of people were inside those buildings. So many stories and photos still yet to be shared.
Thanks for your story. So happy you made it out!
Bless you, thankyou for your story, I was 16yrs old at the time with my partner I am still with today, we were in a car with a friend who wanted to go to the shop and he saw it on the tv in the shop when the first plane had hit, he came out the shop and told us and we went to his house to watch it all unfold, evreyones heart was breaking that day! RIP to all who lost their lives and respect for those who survived, always in our hearts from UK🇬🇧❤😔👍
Thank you for your detailed story and photos. Such an important record. Glad you got out okay.
Wow I didn’t realize he took that famous photo in the mall. I also have never seen the stairwell photo.
I was glad to see the pictures. We always saw the same old pictures on the news.
Incredible account of that awful day!!! I so appreciate that you shared it. ❤
very well produced video btw, the music and intercutting his photos are top notch. really great work. thank you for this important primary source.
Thank you for sharing your story ❤️
I had more than just one premonition about that day (I can prove it). I recently found our from a "legend" retired dispatcher of the FDNY that the death toll recently surpassed the 343 number of the firefighters who passed that day. He told me that he was home in Pennsylvania when the event occured, and of course headed toward the scene; his goal was to locate his buddy, Deputy Chief Ray Downey, another legend of the FDNY. When he got into the City, he parked at a firehouse; stopping for a few minutes to talk to another member of the Department; by the time he reached the site, Ray was among the deceased. So sad.
So.... how can you "prove" you had premonitions!? Ever since 1993 anyone from the tri-state area knew that it was only a matter of time until terrorists succeeded again. I just wouldn't have guessed that day, so beautiful and perfect... but in hindsight that's what made it a perfect day for a horrible event. Every single one of us can remember how beautiful the morning was and clear, anyone who was awake and on the eastern seaboard. that's probably because of the event that happened, but I wonder how active the "hive mind" was about how beautiful it was that morning, not a cloud in the sky
recently have been watching a lot of these that keep popping up in yt feed. That’s what I noticed on almost every video, so much so I can almost tell before they say it, it was such a beautiful, clear, calm (etc.) day. I many miles away, after watching many videos throughout the years, will always say to myself “
it was such a beautiful, clear day” because you can’t help but notice that beautiful clear blue surrounding the death and destruction. What you say about the “hive mind” makes a lot of sense.
I had a premonition too. Not specifically but a couple of days before I thought, “it’s been a long time since there was a plane accident.” The last time I thought that it was about the same length of time before Swiss Air flight 111 crashed off the cost of Canada. I had another “premonition” on the day of the London Underground attack that there was going to be some kind of subway event that day (it had actually already happened but I didn’t hear the news until about an hour after I had that thought). My blood ran cold when I heard on the radio song request show someone was dedicating a song to the people who lost their lives in….(I thought to myself, please don’t say subway incident), but of course it was. I haven’t had another premonition since I started taking antidepressants, not sure if it is just a coincidence or not.
As for the blue sky, when I opened my curtains September 12 and saw it was a beautiful blue sky too, I was so thankful, I don’t think I could have coped with a cloudy sky.
I have listened to other survivors who were in that training class. A group interview, a reunion of sorts, would be interesting to hear.
This is such a great account and photos. Thank you for including so many details of your day. Appreciate your openness. You made it - good job!
Thank you, for sharing, your story👍
I'm about no one mentioning the survivors - the 9/11 tribute center is dedicated to telling the stories of the survivors, especially the aftermath and the struggles that they have had. They have some excellent TH-cam videos with survivors telling their story of handling PTSD and survivor guilt.
I met him at my school!!!!!
Thanks for sharing your story. God bless
Wow, Amazing Story ❤.
Wow, this is new to me, it looks like there have been a few new survivor stories uploaded to TH-cam....
I’ll never go in a high rise building ever again.
Well the towers are destroyed and many other high rises have been destroyed since so I don't think that saying applies to this
It does apply to tjrizzo. He doesn’t want to go into a high rise again.

5:45: He's is misremembering this. The PA voice never, ever said anything about a plane hitting the other building. We have the PA announcement from other sources, including 9/11 calls from inside the South Tower. He's right about being told that the South Tower was "secure."
There was more than one PA voice message that day.
Damn he watched American beauty the monkey before 9/11. Heavy movie about life and death
The monkey?
Amazing photos
6:18 nice Clash reference, brotha!
He knew if he did go, there will be trouble
And if he stayed, that trouble would be infinitely doubled.
God Bless ❤️😪
after you watched band of brothers, did you guys cuddle?
Imagine the stories from the ones who didn’t make it
I'm sure the terrorists probably checked what the weather was going to be that day.
I can’t believe he didn’t hear the explosion 4:10
Whatever reason the security had for sending occupants of the South Tower back to their offices despite the first hit in the North Tower, bit going by my gut instinct, I AM DOING DOWN AND HAVE TO GET OUT OF THIS PLACE ASAP !!! Also, this same place was attacked in 0:02 1993, too. Sometimes, your gut instincts can SAVE YOUR LIFE TOO !
I have but one question: did you reach out and touch faith, that day?
Flat screen tvs didn't exist in 2001 dood
Actually they weren’t as flat but carry on
*Yes..they did. They just weren't like the ones today. They still had a pretty big back on them, but the screens themselves were pretty flat. In your case it's better to remain silent and appear stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.💯%*
I was 18 in 2001 so I have a pretty good memory of those days, and yes there definitely were flat screen TV's in 2001. Although they were not as common as they are today, many businesses had them, including lobbies, airports, banks, etc... The flat panel TV's of those days were mostly of the plasma variety as LCD displays were just starting out as computer monitors.
rear projection flat screen...not the thin ones of today
