    I'm so blessed that my second daughter will be born during lent this year. It's my favorite time of year. My goal is to go to confession once a week and really get closer to God. My first born will be receiving her first communion in May and she has inspired me to be a better Christian and it's so amazing. Love you all ♥♥.

    As a convert I looooove the sweet season of Lent. And one of my favorite thing things PERIOD about being Catholic now is praying the Stations of the Cross. Happy lent (soon) to all! ❤️

    Heres my list if anyone wants to add something to their Lenten Discipline:
    PRAYER:
    * Thursday Weekly Eucharistic Adoration.
    * All the mysteries of the Rosary.
    * Weekly Confession.
    * Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
    * Stations of the Cross.
    MORTIFICATIONS:
    * 30 minutes of exercise.
    * No deserts, no sugary food & drinks (except having 750 millilitres of water and one small meatless meal before sunrise and after sunset)
    * No snacking between meals.
    * 16 hour fasts per day.
    * Cold/neutral showers every morning.
    * 8 hours of sleep a day.
    * Fish, Fruit and Veggie diet.
    * No alcoholic drinks.
    * Stone in shoe.
    * Pray to God often, pray to God daily to help you by His grace so that you do not overstep the limits of necessity and do not permit yourself to give way to pleasure.
    * Bear with your neighbor's defects; defects of education, of mind, of character. Bear with everything about him which irritates you: his carriage, his posture, tone of voice, accent, or whatever.
    * Are you tempted to be angry? For the love of Jesus, be meek and go along with whatever other person wants to do.
    * To avenge yourself? Return good for evil; it is said the great secret of touching Saint Teresa's heart was to do her a bad turn.
    * To look sourly at someone? Smile at him with a kind and unselfish disposition.
    DETACHMENT:
    * No social media (except for weekly catch up on Sundays).
    * No radio or secular music.
    * No T.V. and News (perhaps only holy videos).
    * No internet for entertainment i.e. news/netflix/blogs
    ALMS-GIVING
    * Donate to Charity.
    * Make a swear box and donate the money to charity.
    Love God very much, How happy are the souls that do this for they possess a treasure! Love Everyone, but do not put your trust entirely in anyone, because Jesus wants to be your great confident, Everything for him and him alone! Consult him before you do or say. Let your life be one of faith and love.
    Do nothing to label yourself, without offending anyone, avoid the company of those who are too wild and those who are unmerciful.
    As for yourself, be busy about your own jobs, keep your opinions to yourself and never express them unless told to do so, be fascinated with only that one subject, the heart of your life, Jesus.

    I’m in RCIA and as a former Protestant am uncomfortable and actually have never even said a rosary and (don’t even own a rosary)so my lent goal will be to do a daily rosary in addition to really diving deeper into reading/studying as much as I can about the catholic faith as I prepare to enter the Church this Easter. I too am sacrificing sweets and junk food! Processed foods...
    I am also giving up any personal shows I watch and limiting screen time to only 1hour (as well as for my son).
    I want to dive into scripture more, praying the rosary daily, and I've subscribed to Full of Grace through the Good Catholic company. As well as two books to read during lent.
    Lent last year is when Jesus saved me and I am looking forward to experiencing this sacrificial time in the Catholic faith♥️🙏🏼♥️

    All great tips, Heather! I love the purging idea. My house needs a good going over and it would feel good to give to those less privileged than me. My priest made a great suggestion - he said that instead of giving something up for lent, start doing something for God instead. If you don't pray the Rosary - make that your Lent goal - if you do pray the Rosary, pray it twice daily - or start a daily Bible reading, try to get to Mass daily etc. Instead of giving something up ... add something for God! He reasoned that by doing this, you aren't temporarily giving up chocolates or sweets or something, you are adding a habit that you can carry with you long after Lent has passed. By the way he said it, I don't think my priest is big on "giving up" things for Lent, lol. I'd never heard a priest say that before but he found it silly. I like the sacrifice of giving something up for God, but I like the idea of adding something for God even more. Perhaps I will do both?
    Also, Easter is 53 days away now. If I start a 54 day novena today it will take me past Easter. Should I still start it or should I wait until advent?

    • @ACatholicMomsLife
      @ACatholicMomsLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I love the lent season! I plan on giving up sugar/sweets, meat and worrying/anxiety! Through that I I started to pray to rosary more daily and also praying to the sacred heart of Jesus a lot more as well. We practice meatless Fridays and Wednesdays but the overall lent season we tend as a family to eat lighter and not as full and hearty meals as you normally would for winter time (depending where you live, if it’s cold there anyway, I’m from NJ:)) and our church does a soup dinner night on Wednesdays to aid in eating lighter and during that time we always practice prayer, we do bible studies. One year we watched the movie “Jesus”. But mostly this lent season I plan on really strengthen my prayer routine and quiet time. 💛 so far, I’ve already started and I can feel and see a difference, I’m a lot more happier and at peace. 😇🙌🏼

And aside from that tradition we also have the so called "Penitensya" or Self-Flaggelation, there are group of men topless, and hitting their back that makes it bloody, as their sacrifice. God Bless. Keep inspiring us!

    I am loving watching all these lenten videos. I plan on:
    > reading a book to grow in faith,
    > will do at least 2 different novenas, Padre Pio, Divine Mercy
    > in almsgiving will deposit secretly on the Friday's school piggy bank where we deposit a dollar every Friday and our kids can go in casual clothes and not uniforms, but this money when the piggy bank is full is given away to a needy poor family.
    > willing to fit also praying time in the morning, but I am still discerning on that one. Confession and do adoration time at least once a week
    > will fast too... at least that's my plan...

      28 And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
      29 Who having heard, was troubled at his saying, and thought with herself what manner of salutation this should be.
      30 And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found grace with God.
      31 Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus.
      Luke 1:39-42
      39 And Mary rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste into a city of Juda.
      40 And she entered into the house of Zachary, and saluted Elizabeth.
      41 And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
      42 And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

I’m also going to start the 54 day novena too, which will be so special as I am spending Easter this year at Lourdes so to continue saying the rosary here, I think will be extra special 🙏😊. Going to also give up sugar as God has definitely put it on my heart that this has become an unhealthy addiction and this will be tough for me but I know with God’s help I can do it. I had this idea for this lent: everyday I will choose a random Saint (many of which I don't know) through Catholic.org cause it's a great resource that lists all saints. I will read about their life (it gives a summary) and see what they are a patron of. I will think of a person who falls under that and pray for them.e.g. if I read about St. Florian and see he's the patron of firefighters, I'll think of a firefighter I know and pray for him or her or just the local firefighters in general..in that way I'll pray for another person specifically daily and also learn about Saints and learn about Jesus and faith from them.

Because my family has become very dysfunctional including my older brother and sister in law. In addition to my daily Rosary, I plan to pray at least one more of the Divine office (I am already praying Compline so I will add Prime and/or Vespers). I pray the Trent 1910 version using an app called BrevMeum. I plan to read 3 books: How to Make a Good Confession by Fr. John Kane (I’m rereading this now for Ash Wednesday confession); Spiritual Combat by Scupoli; and Whst Jesus Saw From the Cross by A.D. Sertillanges.

    Hi Heather I love your videos. Thank you for all the ideas. For this lent I will stop watching to TH-cam videos that don’t help me grow in my catholic faith. I will also be doing more praying.

    I can’t go to confession:( I NEVER knew I couldn’t, when my oldest son made his First Holy Communion I wanted to set an example, when I walked into confessional the priest asked IF I was married in the Church, I wasn’t:(, so he said he couldn’t hear my confession, it’s been over 30 years since I haven’t been to confession, received communion, because of what I was told, I’ve always respected this “rule”. I still go to mass AND LOVE MY FAITH, SO MUCH TO LEARN, I wish I knew to pray for a husband, I’ve been in an interfaith marriage, he never wanted to promise the church, he would raise our children Catholic-so we just went to Vegas:(, wish I knew then what I know now:(, was ALWAYS difficult being the only pillar of faith for my children, AND now they’ve grown up to think it’s okay. I personally think it is so IMPORTANT to marry Someone who is of your sane FAITH. anywho, thanks for your continued teaching🙏🏼

    Hello! I'm super excited to find you! I am a Catholic wife and I'm always looking for like minded women. As I was searching around your channel I noticed a misspelling.. in your video category 'Catholic Begginers' I believe the word 'Begginers' is spelled wrong.. unless of course there's a different spelling and meaning that I'm unaware of. I think it should be 'Beginners.' I would have preferred to mention it in private but I wasn't sure how so here it is.. God bless you. Can't wait to see what other videos you have and I've already subscribed.

    I am giving up TH-cam. 😔This will be harder for me than even sweets and I love my sweets! In the mornings, I typically get up and watch some YT during breakfast. And then after lunch. And then after dinner. I’m going to instead use this time to read and pray the rosary as well as pray. I’m planning on reading Fr. Elijah by Michael O’Brien and Catherine of Siena by Sigrid Undset. I plan on trying some theology of the Early Church fathers. Please, pray for me. This is going to be hard. Plus this will be my first REAL fast of the last 20 years. 🤫

      Wow, that's amazing. I really think that for today's people giving up social media or TH-cam is extremely hard, but it will better prepare us for Easter. I also recommend to give up a secular music and listen to only religious music. St. Catherine is one of my favourtie saints. Are you going to read The dialogue or her letters or both :)?

    Heather, I am contemplating on praying the 54 Rosary Novena. Are there additional prayers besides the daily rosary? If so, could you share a reliable resource? Thanks :)

    First and for most I wanna say thank you so much for your videos. You have been very helpful and I appreciate that. I grew up in a catholic home in Louisiana, but as I got older, I kinda stray away but I would go to a Christian church. As a kid, my father took me to the catholic church and Sunday school faithfully but I never got my baptism, my confession nor my first communion. Now that I’m older, something hit me hard and now I’m willing to do lent this year and beyond. I purchased a rosary for myself and went to my first mass yesterday or was it a mass? Cause it was like 15mins and received communion. After that, I asked the priest if he could bless my rosary beads for me and he did. Now this is my first time actually doing lent even tho I seen my father do it every year, but I wanna ask is on the day of Ash Wednesday, what I must do in order to start?? Do I have to be baptized in a catholic chruch, had my first communion and confession? Because I been baptized and before yesterday I had communion but it wasn’t in a Catholic Church. I wanna do lent this year because I’m currently sustaining from pornography and self pleasure because after my dad died I was entering a dark place and if it wasn’t for my understanding fiancé and Jesus Christ, I wouldn’t be here. And I feel that doing lent this year and praying the rosary would draw me closer to Jesus Christ. I’m sorry for the long story 😅 and I hope you can help me. Thank you and God Bless.

      It'sgreat that you are on the good way to return home :) There are a few rules that states whether your baptism was or wasn't legitimate. The easiest way to know it, is to ask a priest from a nearest parish or search this in Google. The Rosary is indeed beautiful, medieval prayer. During lent it's especially worthy to pray and meditate Stations Of The Cross and Chaplet of Divine Mercy. I'm just curios, what church have you been to, that they have communion and support Rosary prayer?

    I have a few questions... (I am deployed rn & usually my grandma helps me remember everything for Lent 😅) so fasting shouldn’t be every Wednesday & Friday? Just Ash Wednesday & Good Friday? And is it every Friday that we aren’t supposed to eat meats? Or am I wrong?
