The Kraut who was at the ambush of the Jeep with a .50 cal , was in the previous episode . He was beside Saunders in a ditch with a machine pistol taking aim at some British soldiers and Saunders called out a warning to them .
The krauts who infiltrated the American and the British lines in this episode were foiled by Pvt. Kirby, he can spot any kraut in an American uniform; and so can the British Sgt.
+Ken Garrett Oddly, he's credited as a corporal! But, yeah, he makes a good point; if they're who they say they are, there's no harm in returning with him to Allied HQ.
Ahh! Capt. Christopher from Star Trek. The F-104 Star Fighter, fighter pilot who intercepts the Enterprise when the Enterprise ends up on earth as they approach a black star pull away, enter a time warp and they wind up on earth in 1968. Capt. Kirk beams him aboard and the adventure begins.
Another fantastic solo outing by Kirby, this is a great bookend for another classic Kirby episode "The Leader", which is my personal favourite Combat episode.
Why didn't anyone ever tell the production team and especially the prop training crew that one never holds the British Sten (or later Sterling) sub-machine gun by its horizontal magazine! . Ricardo Montalaban a few episodes back did just the same, firing his Sten in the wrong manner, often holding the magazine at its end! Which if fired in reality, the repetitive recoil of the weapon would yank that magazine out of the receiver, with obviously disasterous result. This is why Sten manufacturers incorporated a concentric perforated cylinder around the barrel to dissipate heat and specifically to hold the weapon steady whilst firing, in much the same way that a Thomson SMG would be fired (Saunders) by holding the 'furniture' along the base of the barrel. . No British commonwealth soldier or Maquis resistance fighter would ever be trained to fire the Sten whilst holding the magazine. Unlike the German MP40 Maschinenpistole (often wrongly called the "Schmeisser" by the Western Allies...), which had a longer magazine receiver, so ergonomically designed for the either free hand to grasp when firing controlled bursts.

Gavin McLeod was also in some Hogan's Heroes episodes. Good ones like all those episodes.
He was also on McHales Navy for the first 2 years as "Hap."
