I saw the Chuckle Brothers in a live show in 2000. I didn't really know anything about their background, just that I liked them on Chucklevision. Were they just two chancers who got lucky and landed a gig on children's TV? No. Absolutely, no. They were theatrical professionals. If you think they were good on TV, they were amazing live on stage. They were one of the last remaining acts in traditional variety theatre. They performed with their half-brothers, The Paton Brothers. Incredible show, real good family entertainment. They weren't desperate for work, either. Chucklevision was still going strong, and they gave it 100%. After the show, they signed autographs for over an hour. I won't hear a bad word against them, they were a fantastic act. Paul still does Panto, do go and see him if you get the opportunity. He's a legend.
That comment = along with Kirsten O'Brien's choice of subject - is quite uplifting. Thanks. My age meant that I missed the Chuckle Brothers "boat", and I only ever caught clips while babysitting. I was not sure if "To me. To you." was a worthy entry into the national consciousness, but now I can be genuinely pleased for them. Your first sentence had me wondering where such a lengthy comment would go. I hope that many people get to read such a thoughtful, warmhearted post. Wildly dfferent to the majority of scents left on the TH-cam lamppost. 😀👍👍
@JohnPreston888 Yes this is true. I'm the president of the Little Rock, Arkansas chapter of the US Chucklevision Society. We've got 14 million members across the continental United States (and Puerto Rico) or something
I mean why didn't he point out that the puppet's ear fell off at 21:17 ... Thanks for posting this BTW... I've now got a lot of Charlie Brooker to catch up on.
I remember watching this back when it was first shown almost 15 years ago and I guess I was 21 or so... I'd forgotten a lot of it but I definitely remember the David Liebe Hart section. I also remember finding the Oliver Postgate section boring, at the time but now watching it again it is rather touching.
As a parent I’ve been exposed to In The Night Garden… ok this is the first time I’ve watched Screenwipe oh this episode since being a parent. I bet Charlie fun rewatching this as a parent too.
After looking into David Liebe Hart, I almost came to the conclusion that it was some sort of kitsch mocking program. But delving a bit deeper this guy seem more odd. And I'm putting that politely.
The bible programme looks genuinely incredible; I.e. not credible by any measure. If that was made as a horror film, it would win plaudits for its eeriness

Saw them in 2010, I was 17. Loved it.

To me-to you. Though I’m not sure why being from Rotherham it wasn’t “T’Me, T’Thi”
Yes I’m from the north
@@BetterCallJamie HaHa. Perhaps it was translated as a concession so that us Southerners (and people from the U.S.) could understand.😀

Surprisingly astute observations from Kirsten O'Brian. Well said Mrs.
Well of course, she was talking about the genius of chucklevision. Can't go wrong.
As an adult, I too understand it’s genius.
"I love playing bounce!"
"Well that's how you got the warts"
XD
The Liam Gallagher jokes will never get old.
Postgate was the man, but I’m close to Charlie’s age. Firman and Eliot also genius, I’m thinking the Clangers. Respect to you for the shout out!
I laughed so hard at the 'and knife you' bit that it was scary
A really touching tribute to Oliver Postgate. Well done Charlie. 👍🏻
I wont ever forget oliver postgate

I remember Johnny Ball Games and I forgive him because he's Johnny Ball. Love this content so thank you I'm subscribed.
1:22 Oh, Hi, Ashens!
Is it really him?
Yeah he had the mask recommissioned so was asked to be in it. I wondered if anyone else had written this yet 😂
The line “less parental” whilst Philip Schofield is on the screen has different connotations in 2023…
"A man with all the easy-going charisma of an RS-232 interface cable floating in a bowl of cold piss."

Two years later: SECOND!
Screenwipe fan as well?? Jolly good!

He's definitely off the reservation.
And at the moment the pie hit his face
Black mirror was born
23:40 Is that sodding Biggins??? 😂
What happened to the music?
9:15 Scary eye reveal
Argh! What's the name of the electronic band they sample throughout the ep?
Timestamp?
Are you thinking of Aphex Twin (they play Goon Gumpas in this episode)
I think it's Air - Virgin Suicides soundtrack. The song is called Clouds Up

Not liking the Lazy Town slander
Hands up who lives in a nightmare world of Dolmio puppets?
Where is humble Jimmy Savile?
probably mentioned at 04:22
