  • Paratroopers are trained to stare down danger - but what about the judgement of Simon Cowell? Find out if the 82nd Airborne chorus advanced in the competition.

    Listening to the 82nd Chorus sing reminds me of my childhood. I'd call the songs they sing lullabies. You see, my dad was an Infantryman in the 82nd Airborne Division. He'd sing cadences to me as a baby. My dad died earlier this year. So this is bittersweet for me. I can't wait to see their next performance on the show!

    Between 1974 and 1993, I spent 9 years in THE Division. The Chorus used to be larger. During the year they are in the chorus, members continue to jump, deploy, run PT daily, and maintain proficiency in required areas. It is a recruiting tool, a morale booster, demonstrating the character of paratroopers around the world.

    I REALLY, REALLY like the fact that they represented themselves with both a familiar (to me) military marching cadence, and a pop song they have been singing for many years. They never tried to reinvent themselves for this competition, they just upgraded it a bit. The 82nd Airborne Division Chorus is a finely tuned singing machine, just like the 82nd Airborne Division is a finely tuned fighting machine that can be anywhere in the world in 18 hours or less. The mere mention of the 82nd Airborne being deployed makes tyrants and dictators tremble. Good to see that the chorus makes Americans stand and cheer.

    • @choosesomethingfun5608
      @choosesomethingfun5608 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you talking about 'mustard stains', also known as combat jumps? Damn few paratroopers have 4 combat jumps, and even fewer alive today.

    • @Devil3R
      @Devil3R ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean by 4 Aces? If your talking about "book ends" or In the unit ;Left sleeve, (82nd) and War (right side unit) 82nd,,you're prob correct. These are kids mostly..Most soft skill but know how to shoot and move..Give our best some credit. I've worn 4 aces..it takes a toll my friend. Love brother..Strike Hold!

    • @choosesomethingfun5608
      @choosesomethingfun5608 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Most soft skill"? Some soft skill, most are combat ready to pick up a rifle and fight at the drop of a hat. That IS their mission. The 82nd never 'prepares' to go into battle, because they are ALWAYS ready to go into battle, 24/7. They are constantly training, and can be anywhere in the world in 18 hours or less, even for those in the chorus. You sound as if you were in the 82nd. Has something changed? I am speaking from the 70's era.@@Devil3R

    • @juanburgos4668
      @juanburgos4668 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Doesnt take the fact away that the Army cant recruit/retain where is were the focus should be. Nor the fact that they are considering going bact to the APFT because soldiers struggle to pass the most sensical physical test that actually assesses true potential physical readiness as it relates to combat. But lets focus on singing maybe that will deter our enemies.

    • @choosesomethingfun5608
      @choosesomethingfun5608 ปีที่แล้ว

      You obviously know nothing about the 82nd Airborne, or the chorus who represents them. Everyone of them has a full time job in the Army. They do get some time away from the unit for special performances like this, almost entirely on a rotating basis, depending on what level of alert they are on. Division Ready Force (DRF) 1, 2, or 3. The ones taking part in the chorus, normally do it on level 3, sometimes 2, but rarely 1, the highest level. DRF-1: Anywhere in the world in 18 hours. The 82nd is the most highly trained, division sized Infantry fighting force in the world. This chorus has been a fixture at Ft. Bragg, now Liberty, since before I served in '73-76. Perhaps you should check into their actual service record prior to making snarky comments about that which you know nothing about. You sound like a jarhead. They were worse than and thicker than the chiggers on Ft.Bragg DZ's trying to get autographs from paratroopers. Deal with it.😀

    • @johnost8128
      @johnost8128 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Paratroopers in the Chorus are not slackers, they have to be recommended and supported by their Chain of Command. They serve as a tool to boost morale and possibly recruiting. They also have to audition for a spot, remain MOS proficient and maintain their Soldier skills. They only stay for a year then back to their unit. The Chorus has been around for 80 years.
