Be honest, she is a great singer, other great singers at her age (Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand) had sold tents of milions of LP's and given 100'ts of concerts and got some grammyes. She can compare to two other singers, concerning her singing style, which obviously is not pop or soul music. Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand. Maybe the two are a little superior to her, but not that much. Only a little bit. This means that she is in third place among the best singers ever. @@kevinkasp Loren had a blackout at the start of the song - for a moment she had no idea of where she was and what she was doing, but managed to pull herself back into reality and belt out that performance. Two great singers - I like both versions. I prefer Loren's for the emotion of the occasion and because it was a chance for a talented person to get something back after a lot of tough issues in her life. But to each their own. I'm glad they both walk among us. 😊

In the first four bars you can tell, Loren is an incredible, professional singer. In fact I enjoy the opening verse more than the big diva parts later in the song, because of the expression, the absolutely perfect diction, and the delicate dynamics that signal you are listening to something special. My choir director always said "music is always moving". I've never heard music move so fluidly from lows to highs as in this performance. This was a joy to watch.

Marnie Nixon sang for Deborah Kerr in The King and I, for Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady and for Natalie Wood in West Side Story to name a few and she never asked for recognition. Simon had to be in on this because Rebecca Ferguson is an excellent singer and if no one knew it wasn't her singing in the movie, how did Simon put it together so fast that this was the real singer when no one even knew there was a behind-the-scenes singer?
She knew exactly why she hid from the spotlight......she knew she would reach this moment. Such a beautiful voice.
I'm sure she "hid from the spotlight" not because she was "more comfortable" doing so but because of contractual limitations arising out of her contract work in the movie.. Either those limitations expired or they were later renegotiated so that now she can reveal that she was the singer in the movie.
She didn’t hide at all. She did the Voice 10 years ago and released music including a duet with Michael Bublé. She needed attention again I guess.
Don’t get me wrong, her voice is amazing and that song is beautiful but she’s never hidden anywhere.
