I agree that the lack of direct answers is frustrating. But, the problem is that the senators in the opposite party are not looking for an honest and fair discussion. They’re looking for soundbites that they can use to mislead their followers. So the candidates, from both parties, are instructed to say as little as possible and to use the line that it cannot be discussed because it may come before them as a judge. Do you know which candidates first started using that line? Conservative Republicans because they didn’t want to answer the question about whether they would support or oppose Roe v. Wade. Both Democrat and Republican politicians are responsible for this. Don’t blame the candidates. Blame the politicians.

They’re trained to basically do their own “filibustering” of sorts when responding to questions from the committee members. It’s pathetic that they use excuses like “well I wasn’t a judge at the time”, or “that is my personal social media account”, and outright lies of “I do not recall signing or writing that letter”…among other absurd b.s. these nominees are saying while committing perjury.
I think that anyone working for the federal or state government should be banned from even having social media accounts. This for Republicans as well as the children of the Democratic (even children that look like unwrapped mummy’s…ie Pelosi) of course, since dumb dumbs like “the squad” all use it regularly to post devicive content and to attempt to further divide the country with their rhetoric. Republicans are absolved of this either, we are far above the people that use that crap and no one on our side should be using it (as mentioned, NO ONE of any party should be allowed to have any social media accounts).
I think social media is a cancer that thankfully did not exist until I was in college and fully believe that for once we follow something Australia did and not allow those in grammar school [K-12] to be allowed to use it at all or have an account (at least the worst one: Tik-Tok). There is no “right” that children have to use that brain rot garbage; we all know objectively it is harmful to their mental health and inevitably their physical health. Let’s make that a priority in Congress in our first year of full control, since it should be easy to get through and stop the bleeding when it comes to brain rot apps kids in school are using. I’m for kids only being allowed to have flip phones (at least presently at school) as smart phones are just another unnecessary distraction that isn’t needed.

Senator Cruz has a well developed ability to present amazingly obtuse demagoguery in the guise of intelligent legal discourse. He's capable of the latter - but he so often judges that the moment calls for the former ... and will knock over any person or object that stands between himself and any TV camera or microphone in his endeavor to see his hoary work broadcast for all to see. Here he plays to the crowd at home, and not to the issues at hand (whether or not Arianna Freeman would be a capable and effective judge for the Third Circuit post.

While I do appreciate Senator Cruz and he is a talented attorney, I cannot agree with his attempt to suggest some wrongdoing on the part of a defence attorney because she has defended serious criminals. This is part of our guarantees to a competent defence regardless of offence. I do not, on the flip side of that argument, support the actions of organizations which engage in obstructionist behaviour with regard to following the law. Views of nominees are important and I do not support ANY nominee who is so obviously an ideologue to the point of zealotry. No one of that stripe needs to occupy these high level Justice positions. Keep to their organizations or firms which engage with these issues with such partisan furor and leave such positions to much more even handed candidates.

If you care about the constitution, you should support public defenders. Without public defenders, we put people in jail based upon the complaint filed by the police. Is that what you want?

"She, and the lawyers under her, go out to defend clients that they are _not assigned to._ A Public Defender is _assigned_ to a criminal that cannot pay for their own defense. They are not allowed to go out, and decide to just defend people because they are charged with something that, if found guilty, would result in the death penalty. She has a mission, and treats that mission as more important than her actual job. Her office purposely throws every legal wrench into the workings of the case that they possibly can, and even go so far as attempt to drag things out so extremely long that the court _must_ finally acquit the accused. _(How a lot of rich people never go to jail. Basically she, a member of the legal department of her state, does every single thing that she can to undermine, get an acquittal, or initiate so much public outcry that the jury starts hearing it. This, usually, would be fairly noble... if she were _supposed_ to be doing such. As a Public Defender she is supposed to keep her nose out of any case not on her docket... but she doesn't. As a Public Defender she is supposed to not be engaging in politics beyond voting, and perhaps social media - it is rapidly becoming less 'okay' on social media. While she is supposed to be doing all of this? She is using the power of her office, the tax payer funding that goes to her office, and all of the tax payer paid salaries of herself and her fellows under her... all to run out to protests, dive into cases that are not assigned to her (spending hundreds of man hours doing so), and a few times blatantly stating that if anyone deserved to die it was racist.
Thus - she is a political activist using the power, authority, and funding that the tax payers gave her by electing her to fuel her own activist activities. It would be like Ken Paxton (DA of Texas) took the funds for his office, and started personally defending, dunno, Marijuana based crimes. Sure, Marijuana Crimes are really... really... stupid, but that is _not_ his job. It is not why tax payers pay his salary. It is not why he's elected. It is not, mostly, in his jurisdiction. I have watched just about every nominee who came before the Senate Judiciary committee, and to a person you can tell they have ALL been coached on how NOT TO ANSWER a question that any answer which could be used against them at a later date. Every one to a person, because of their beliefs, has chosen to be elusive instead of just answering yes or no to questions from the Senate. It is going to be difficult for any Biden appointee to the bench, will actually make it because none know how to be honest and that is why we do not want them adjudicating anything, BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HONESTY AND TRUTH ARE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

what did he really ask here? Someone has to defend murderers and most murderers are indigent, so a government appointed lawyer usually does this. If you do something legal as a part of your job, it shouldn't reflect badly on you.

I wish I could say that I am surprised that she was nominated by the Biden administration, but I am not. I am making it a point, as a legal, Constitutional-loving American to watch these hearing. I think all concerned Americans should. However, unless the current administration is replaced, our nation is going to continue on the downward spiral it has begun but will be such a catastrophe of the likes we have never seen before.

@@bradleyboyer9979 if the person is guilty and pleading not guilty then was let out on bail and then committed murder or rape or worse bombed or shot a group of people. That is letting people out of jail to commit more and worse crimes because they know there is someone that keeps them out of jail just for the final show!

The issue with her is indicative of a major problem in the US. Activist judges. The 9th circuit federal court is a prime example. Same for DAs. Once they become activists, they lose sense of equal application under the law. Lady Justice has a blindfold on her for a reason.
This country has never been so dangerously close to failure and Constitutional malfeasance since the beginning of the 20th century. So many sellouts in policy making positions.

Do you fucking idiots actually think about the things that come out of your mouths? How many people from Trump's circle have already taken the 5th in their legal depositions? Eric Trump did it 500 times in his. Why should this woman give her views on the death penalty? Cruz knew she wouldn't be able to answer that question without a 'gotcha' for either yes or no. Justices are supposed to be unbiased and decide cases upon the laws as written. The political leanings of a justice should not be a determining factor but unfortunately it seems to be the only factor nowadays. Honesty, prudence, the ability to separate church and state etc... should be the criteria.
