    great tips, and good demonstrations too! your piggies must have wondered what was going on lol What made my piggies tame when i first got them (they were about 4/5 weeks) was putting them in their run, which is odd because it is a big place, and noisier that inside, but it changed them so much! i put them in for only about an hour and sat with them for most of that and by the end they were eating grass and running round! i was so pleased, and then (even better) when i put them back inside they didn't run straight into their hidey likd they normally did, but instead they came out and plodded round with me watching them. this may not work. for other piggies, but it worked for mine, and they are now 7 months, so have come a long way since them. just a note to new piggie owners: all pigs will still be skittish and sometimes be scared when you stroke them, no matter how old, so don't worry that they will never like you, they will! i thought the same too, but you should see Bonnie and Cleo now!! 😀😀

    I have one piggy (an Abby) who LOVES cheek, chin and nose scratches. He will run to the side of the cage and stick his nose out. After you've been scratching it for a bit, he'll move his head around so that you're scratching his cheeks and chin. His eyes will close and he'll start rumbling softly. At first I thought that was because he didn't like it, but he has every opportunity to run away and instead starts falling asleep, so I assume it's not. It's funny too because he pouts if you stop scratching before he's ready. Some pigs have such big personalities!

    I'm quite fortunate with two of my piggies, Buddy and Cookie. For some reason, they were unusually easy to tame. I think getting them as babies helped. Buddy was 5 weeks old, and Cookie was 3 weeks (just weaned) when I got them. Maybe putting them with an already-tamed adult helped, as Daisy (now passed) was already voluntarily getting into my open hand to come out for floor time. It only took about 2 1/2 weeks to have Buddy and Cookie doing the same. The problem now is getting them back into their cage - they want to stay out for more play time.
    Dexie and Gizmo are the opposite. It's difficult to get them out for floor time, but they're far more playful when out. But, when playtime is over (until next playtime, a few hours later) all I need do is ask "are you ready to go back in the house?", and they literally jump into my hands. It's also a blessing that my piggies are also bi-lingual. My spoken English is terrible, so they can "understand" both my girlfriend and me, and respond to either of us. Who would expect Guinea Pigs to respond to two non-similar languages?

    • @Sheywh12
      @Sheywh12 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's kewl Kevin😄Yes when they are babies it is easier..I believe as I took on a 7 month now he's a year old and adopted my moms Piggie last yr when she went into a nursing home...They are more skittish than my older ones I had as babies and got them both at the same time...The babies were so much easier to tame...So this video helped me a lot as I didn't really know how to tame a Piggie as my babies just looked at me as their mom right away lol...

I've been trying to get them grids etc. for a playtime cage but have been spending all my money on fleece and such to get their C&ax cage setup...They need exercise so it would be great if I could just put them on the floor..Another question how do you get them caught to put them back in the AC& C cage...Thx for all your help..Shey

    Ive had my piggy for a couple of months and she was very mellow at first, Im assuming it was because she was shy. Now she is used to me however, she has got comfortable to the point where I'd she doesnt like being pet or wants to go back in her cage, she bites. She constantly tries to nibble on your finger and I would like her to get out of the habit considering I have small children that want to hold her. Is there any tips you have on training them to not nibble? Thanks!

    I just brought my piggy home last week, sometimes he lets me stroke him in the cage, but mostly he will run away. He is an abby, but he seems okay with being pet when he is out for lap time on my bed, even closed his eyes briefly when i gently scratched just behind his ear. Since he is so on and off with petting i really can't tell if he likes it or not. Any advice?

    • @Amy-xj3kh
      @Amy-xj3kh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is from 4 years ago but to anyone with the same problem I would get them in a fleece item and pick them up in that, at first just keep them in the fleece bed don’t stroke them just talk to them and keep them on your knee maybe put some food in with them. Try doing this everyday and eventually they will get into routine and maybe even stick their head out. After doing this process for several days try putting your hand in the fleece item with them if they don’t like it give them a minute and try again once they are comfortable with you touching them out the item down with the opening facing you and some treats outside it hopefully they will come out and investigate then later try stroking them outside of the fleece item after this they may be ready for you to scoop them up and for you to hold them in your arms. I hope this helps anyone with the same problem xx

    • @SqueakDreams

    I just got a guinea pig about 3 weeks ago and we aren't totally sure how old she is, but based on size comparisons with my friends piggy, she is around 4 months old now. She is warming up quicker than I thought she was because she was extremely skittish when I got her. .I do have a question if you see this , my piggy, Sam, always tries to bite my fingers when I'm in the process of lowering her into the cage. She's broken the skin twice, but doesn't bite me any other time. I've made sure I was carrying her properly but it didn't stop her from nipping. Any idea why this is? I'll take suggestions from anyone.

      +JillyBean1213 :P Awh it might be impatience that she just really wants to get back in the cage :) maybe you could lower her in inside a blanket to prevent getting bite marks!

    I need some help!!! I've recently changed my pigs pellets food because the old one had no nutritional value for them. Now that I've changed it they are not eating it so much. Any tips?

    • @Lyd11S
      @Lyd11S 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mix it in with your old pellets. Put a little bit more of the new pellets into the old each day! Then they should be used to the new that you won't need to mix them any longer

    Do piggies always need a friend? I am asking because my Guinea pig Snickers was given to me by himself by my friend about a year ago... and my friend mistreated him. (I saw her hit him on facetime when he didn't let her pick him up) and now he's aggressive. He hates being picked up, but once he's on my lap he will calm down a bit, but then when I try to put him back in a cage he tries to bite and scratch me. But he also seems bored in the day... so I'm not sure that if he was with another piggie he would fight or be content. he lives in an ikea detolf and I've been asking my mom for a Midwest cage but she says there isn't enough room.

    I JUST got Guinea pigs but in order to spot clean the cage I have, I'm required to pick them up and put them into the play pen so they aren't able to explore my house and meet my dog. Is This Okay?

    Q: I'm not sure what to do but I have got two boys and they live in a hutch outdoors, and I take them out for 10 minute lap time each day. I also put them in a grazing ark some days but I've noticed that they chase each other round and round in an unfriendly way, and sometimes they try nipping at each other! I believe this is called fighting but I don't know what to do:( please reply if you can! Bye:) oh btw amazing video!!

    • @SqueakDreams
      @SqueakDreams  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! It sounds like normal behaviour but hard to tell without seeing it. Chasing and humping is common in males, very loud chattering and open mouthed lunging is not so good but as long as they don't actually fight they are probably just warning each other away.

    • @irisjtengeusendam1745
      @irisjtengeusendam1745 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kurumi Tokisaki just be calm, move slowly and carefully and one hand under his/her butt and one under their belly and if it makes you feel more secure you can hold him/her against your chest as well

    • @greentea4498
      @greentea4498 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kurumi Tokisaki I don't know about you but if you pick mine up too slowly she'll get nervous. Try o Judy do it quickly, then immediately move them to you chest. Hold them against you so they don't feel like they're falling

      If you go to a pet shop you can find dog ones for like $50 Another good one is Amazon you can find alot there. Whatever you do DO NOT try CRAIGSLIST People lie on there so much. Someone got killed because he n saw a car on craigslist near him so he went to those people and well, U know. If its your only choice then Be Careful!
