  • Tiger Woods rolled in a 12 foot birdie putt on the first hole of a sudden-death play-off at Valderrama to edge out Spanish favourite Miguel Angel Jiménez in a thrilling climax to the first World Golf Championships event to be held in Europe.
The then world No.1 equalled several long-time records as he claimed the American Express Championship after a day of unrelenting drama at Valderrama, when Colin Montgomerie stretched his own remarkable record of Volvo Order of Merit victories to seven in a row.

European Tour is genius for digging in the archives and giving the people exactly what they want.

The camera and angles and quality are my favorite I’ve ever seen. Amazing shots of the ball flight and it’s cool to see the 90’s-early 2k Tiger in what looks like the actual quality of the broadcast back then. Come back to this all the time!

That 17th hole green is absolutely sinister. I'd be so upset!! But what mental fortitude from Tiger. What a champion.

i have been searching for this for decades thank you. imo one of his top 5 rounds of his career. You wont appreciate it because you cant see how the rest of the field was moving backwards.

Its one of the greatest rounds ever. He just out hit that course. That 8 on 17 when you land a ball dead center of a green and goes in the water isn't on tiger. It was courses like this that basically forced them to tiger proof courses.

Great seeing this old footage of Tiger wearing the baggy shirts. Always fun to see the old drivers they were using and how technology has changed things!

Back then shafts were a lot more durable than today! Now a day's almost every shaft you find at the golf shop is made of graphite! Great for drivers but bad for irons imo. One harsh impact on the ground and your iron club is done!

He LOVED that cut 3 wood at 11:42....protracer would've been beautiful
The shot from the bunker at 15:10 looks so much like the famous 6iron 2nd shot from bunker, over water, at 2000 Canadian Open from the follow through down to the commentator being somewhat unsure about the line/distance
Lastly, whoever managed the camera angles etc was obviously a golfer. Wonderful job.

Phenomenal performance, the course doesn’t suit tiger (see 97 Ryder cup) and was playing as tough as a major, he got an incredibly unlucky break at 17, and he had to beat a hometown favorite!
