He and his family lived in a nice large home around the Hurst and Bedford area. I remember in the summer of 1976 spending the night there and fascinated at what they had. His wife Theta is my mom’s cousin. He sang at my grandfather’s and great-aunt’s funerals.
What a mighty God we serve!
In my opinion he is one of the all time greats
It’s a shame he’s no longer with us what a magnificent voice.
If only there were more recordings of John. He is incredible!

as far as I'm concerned, John Hall is the finest bass singer in gospel music even today.

Indeed. He came and sang in our Church in Calcutta and for our Annual Songs of the Season when he was the one of the Singing Sergeants in the USA. courtesy Ps Mark Buntain, our Pastor of Calcutta AOG Church. A giant singer alright. So good to see him thanks to Bill & Gloria Gaithor!

Great video. Big John Hall always brings it! I'd love to find a video of him singing "Sound the Alarm." He sang it at my church when I was a kid, and I still remember how powerful it was.
I heard this song being sang by many others quartets but none of them sound so nice as this one.
The piano style and the voice of the singers are special.
RIP Big John. He is singing for his Creator in the wonderful splendor of Heaven this very hour.

It is actually Benbrook
He sang with the Stamps Quartet before J D Sumner, and sang with the Blackwood Brothers after JD Sumner left. He has had a long solo career.
