The hands going down is not because of the note, but of the lyrics "kaya ngayon" which means "now"
Yes, Agree. Mori wanted to stress and emphasize that, "kaya ngayon", "so now", as in "right now, at this moment" hence that hand gesture. We can see the conviction and passion in her delivery, a true artist indeed. 🥰
Its actually quite hard to sing kaya ngayon line specifically because she's using growl and she needs to reach quite high note fast...its not like she's sliding to get to the note. She's singing directly to the note.

Morissette in a Jen's video is the apex of joy. I'm not sure what difference it might make, but I noticed she was sitting with her legs crossed. You don't usually see people sing sitting in that position, or at least I haven't.

i agree. it could help if you read the lyrics of the song in English that she is expressing pain in letting go of a wrongful relationship ( mostly maybe of an affair).

Beautiful reaction as always. She was really all out at that time. In her vlog on her way to that performance she just came from an illness i think. She even admitted that steroids have saved her that day coz her voice was really in a bad condition. Maybe you can also spend some time reacting to her songs in her EP. Im so glad I stumble upon this reaction, and you dissecting Morissette voice, and Im glad that you elaborated on her body movements and the way shes singing the song cuz a lot of haters out there are saying that Morissette is struggling with hitting the notes well infact shes not and that theres a reason why shes doing those body movements I just learned that its a strategy and technique to add more emphasis on the lyrics and message of the song and also to provide that support needed to produce that full, rounded belts that you were talking about as you mentioned chest dominant. I also like that you pointed out her neck and that it was smooth no vein bulging out of norm. Morissette is truly a master of her craft, her techniques and dynamic style of singing is far more advanced than many singers who have been singing for a long time. I always learn something new when vocal coaches react to Morissette. Thank you so much.

Thank you, Coach Jen, for this wonderful reaction and insightful analysis of Morissette performance of "Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw" on the Wish Bus. This performance is so intense and powerful, that every time I watch it I'm still in awe at how good Morissette is. And I like it when I see reactors are also amazed and mesmerized. We don't see a performance like this every day. and I think no one does it better than Mori. I like the term you used, "She smashed it!" and the Incredible Hulk comes immediately to my mind. That's how powerful Mori's voice is, and as you rightly pointed out, she's not merely singing using her vocal chords but with her whole body (or the upper part of her body, since she is sitting). That is how she performs, she always gives it her all, her 100%, so that each performance is spectacular, and she knows it, that's why at the end she lets out that gorgeous smile, as if to say "we did it!" Review her other performances, especially on the Wish Bus, and you will notice that she always does that after every song, that smile of accomplishment and satisfaction, and I always love seeing that. 🥰
Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw means "I want to let GO" It is a beautiful, emotional lyric!!! I enjoyed so much your interpretation of her use of vocal techniques.

She uses those squeeks (& growls) for emphasis on the messages (most likely of pain) of the lyrics of the song. And, not merely by using it because she likes it. Reactors needs to get the meaning of the song to have a grasp of the message.😎

She was sick before this performance and had to take a Covid19 test outside the bus before they would let her perform
That's a genuine sigh of relief right there at the end. She's a bit fatigued here - as can be heard from the somewhat gravelly voice and the timid growls - from several weeks of almost nonstop engagements after fulfilling commitments that were previously postponed due to the pandemic and had to take some steroids to be able to go through with this. A bit imprudent on her management team's part, I might add, considering how much she puts into her performances. But 2 month before this Wishbus gig, she did a live band performance of this same song - in full HD - with the same crew that played in the recorded version. Now that was a well-rested, IN-FULL-SLAYER MODE Mori! You don't have to react to it, but you gotta give it a listen. Immensely enjoyable review, as always, Jennifer.

Steroid helps for that day's performance but it's not good for the body system that the waste goes to mix with your blood after the effect is over.Imo I'd rather cancel the commitment, take a few days rest to let it go naturally. Morissette is actually sick when she performed this because of her nonstop event and and gigs; and when I'm talking about gigs, guesting and events, she literally had like performances 5 to 6 days a week. In her vlog she even mentioned that she underwent some sort of steroids treatment just to be able to sing here in Wish. She was really wise to be honest and dodged some of the insane (high) parts beautifully. She nailed this!
If you're looking for another performance of Morissette to react to, she recently sang her first song under Disney PH entitled "Imagine More". She performed it with Christian Bautista a Medley of some Disney songs and her first Disney song for the finale.
