    Working in a TVR parts department around this time, it felt like the company were all over the place. They were releasing a new model every fortnight and there were no part numbers for the components, no diagrams and a particular Tamora come back after 1 week after registration with an A4 page of faults in size 12 font. Every single part required a call to Mike or Mike at TVR, a job I enjoyed because they were a good laugh and you would order a cigar lighter or trim component and receive a starter motor. Nothing was labelled and in a busy parts department I ended up with boxes of components that I had to match up with the cars. No packing list either. They were a great company with so much vision but massively under resourced.

      @Uncle Joe Well I was only working in a dealership and they were only a secondary brand to the Saab Lotus and Mazda agency that we had. I left shortly after, I have little interest in Mazda.

      @@gr-s2143 I agree, many of the TVR's went on to live successful lives, but from a dealership point of view it was very hard to make any money. The cars wouldn't sell, Tuscans in particular were a bugger to shift, and when you have pissed customers who are bringing their new car back with faults and a OEM in meltdown it creates a headache for everyone involved. They did their best but felt sad when we knew they were going to the wall. Great cars though!

      The Cerbera is gorgeous, this not so much. But then again, I agree on it still looking good today, especially with all the spaceships coming out.

    Fun fact, despite it's niggles, the speed six engine is the most powerful naturally aspirated 6-cylinder engine ever to be fitted to a production car.

      The 265 hemi from the 70's made over 200kw from factory and i could imagine if it was tuned to run todays fuel (efi and such) if it would get close 300kw N/A with bolt ons (P.S. TVR is my favorite European cars)

    Had my TVR for 6 yrs now & had no problems apart from normal servicing & maintenance.👍 Love it.

    This has to be the best sounding 6-cyl engine ever. It has the raspyness of 60's carbed straight sixes and then it just screeeeams furiously in higher rpms. Mega stuff!

    The Cerbera was always the one that had me drooling from first seeing it but this Tamora is a very nice car especially with that car/wheels colour combination.....I would have to have the full Brian Blessed though, has to be done

    I remember seeing the Griffith at the NEC motorshow when it first came out, early 90s, and since then always had a soft spot for the cars. Terribly sad when they went belly up. Great to see some reviews of the the old cars again.

    I love tvr’s. I hired a t350 10 years ago for the weekend and absolutely loved it. The only car I’ve driven that actually felt fast enough for me and that’s coming from a person who doesn’t normally like na engines that much.
    More tvr reviews please.

    I always loved TVR's, they blew my mind when the "Wedges" came out and then moved into those slinky shapes as the 80/90's tailed off. I have always wanted one of these, watching you drive this Tamora reinforces my view that German cars..... well NAaaah! This is something to get excited about. A review of the reborn TVR would be well appreciated, they have gone to every length to make sure the "new" TVR has the same chemistry and hopefully better reliability :)

    Love TVR, but never owned a speed 6 TVR.. I had a 350i, 2x 400SE, a 450 Chimeara, and 2 rare SEACs.. a 420 SEAC and 450 SEAC.. Awesome cars though. If I got another.... it would be a 500 Griffith

    As cool as they are I still can't get past the fact that they are really just one step up from a kit car. And that Al Melling designed straight six is a grenade waiting to happen. Give me a Griiffith with a 5.0 Rover V8 any day.

    Hello Jay ! Cheers from France. i bought my Cerbera Speed Six after your review, as i was hesitating a bit. NOW , the day question is would i rather sell my 2001 Griffith 500SE with a taraka engine kit to buy a nice Tamora ? thanks in advance for your kind advices. And keep going strong :)

    I've never driven a Tamora because I'm in the States and a car must be 25 years old to import, but I HAVE owned a Chimaera. The long clutch was actually a nice thing, because other than a seatbelt, it was the ONLY thing that you might could consider a "safety feature."
    Does it have the heavy gas pedal spring like the Chimaera and Griffith?

    TVR and sensible do not usually appear in the same sentence. Any car can kill you it's just my girlfriends Cerbera actually wanted to. She now has a much more 'sensible' Lotus Elise Mk 1 Great channel as always

    T350 came after this and was built as a racecar based on the tamora, they ended up not doing the race series but decided the car was so good looking they had to make it

    Wish TVRs were available in Italy. I'd have probably gotten one instead of blowing a fortune on an E89 which frankly wasn't a sports car at all

    You see I really love TVR’s I really do I always have and I always will..... but is there any point in one these days? All new top end hot hatches will beat it in a Dash to 60, they handle better and are more reliable. So the only real reason to have one is because you love them. The market for them must be dropping all the time

      Sure, Dan, the practicality of a TVR doesn’t match that of a hatchback, but nobody ever buys a sportscar for practicality...? 🤷🏻‍♂️ HOWEVER, the driving experience in a TVR, both dynamically and aurally, versus any hatchback, is incomparable. The term “smiles per gallon” is used again and again by TVR owners for a very good reason. Plus, you can take the roof off or put the top down on nearly all of them and lastly... Drive ANY TVR or PARK any TVR alongside any of the modern, ridiculously overpriced, mind numbingly generic hatchbacks, and nobody will even notice the hatchback, because all eyes (and ears 😊) will be on the TVR... 😍🤩😘
      I’ve owned 4 TVRs over the years - still have a lovely Tuscan Mk2 - and one of the least mentioned and most gratifying aspects of owning and driving one, is the reaction that they engender from the public. Drive an expensive Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche or other super car and people may *surreptitiously* admire the car, but they harbour an antagonistic resentment towards the driver, because they view them as spoilt or smug rich kids, ostentatiously flaunting their wealth. TVRs were never the preserve of the super rich, because the company’s humble origins and earlier models made them the preserve of sporting enthusiasts on a much lower budget. It was only in the later stages of the company that the cars began to get more exclusive and expensive, but they were never in the price bracket of the well known supercar marques, despite having performance that genuinely came to rival them... As a result - and perhaps especially in the U.K. where they were built - the public have a very palpable and genuine admiration for TVRs, but without resenting the owner/driver. Time and time again, I get waved into the busy main road when joining from a side street, and given an appreciative thumbs up at the same time. Sit there in a Porsche and people will delight in not letting you in. I’ve even had people run across the road to tell me how much they love the car, many others have stopped to ask what it is, and if I’m on the motorway, HUGE numbers of drivers do slooooow overtakes so they can get a really good look at it or take photos... and then they smile, give a thumbs up and drive off.
      The 3.6 Tuscan will do 0-60 MPH in 4.2 seconds, 0-100 in 9.5 and tops out at 180 MPH. For the money I paid for it 6 years ago, in beautiful condition, with only 15,000 miles on the clock, I can’t think of another car that could touch it AND could even hope to replicate the sheer joy of driving and ownership that I’ve described above... AND it’s now worth about £10,000 more than I paid for it and going up year on year. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Try getting those sorts of resale figures in any of today’s turbocharged hatchbacks, that depreciate like a rock the instant you turn the key and leave the showroom... 🤔
      I do get your point, though, and I’ve seriously considered swapping my Tuscan for the sorts of cars you’re talking about - they do make sense as a sporty yet practical driving machine - BUT the depreciation versus APPRECIATION argument alone hugely complicates that decision, let alone what I’ve already mentioned.
      Lastly, if you fancy a laugh and want to understand my dilemma in its fullness, have a look at the TVR Tuscan video that featured on this channel fairly recently, and you’ll find two lengthy comments of mine that I posted today, each of which has a heading in block capitals, so you can’t miss them. From memory, the first one’s entitled MY TUSCAN IS AN ABSOLUTE BITCH! HERE’S WHY... and the second one explodes the myth about TVRs allegedly having no modern driver aids... Ahem... (🤞🤥) Safe driving, Brother. ✌️😎

      Ford Focus ST 0-60 time is 5..7 seconds. TVR Tamora, 4.2 seconds. Have you ever driven a TVR? The handling is awesome.

      610Mungral I’ve never driven one bit I have been in a 5.0 Chimaera and I loved it. There are much quicker Audi’s and BMWs these days that are much quicker than the Focus ST. The standout thing of a TVR back in the day was that it was quicker than most other supercars..... fast forward 20 years and hot hatches are just as quick.

      Dan - try looking at the 0-100mph figures! You'd need an Audi R8 to stay with any TVR and even things like the Audi RS4 are left eating a TVR's dust. I've driven 911 Turbo's and Ferraris and even they struggle to match the sensation a TVR gives you of being picked up by the scruff of the neck and being hurled at the horizon. Even today twenty years on the midrange punch a TVR provides outclasses any mass production car. Add in sublime exterior design, truly world class interiors (no Porsche, Ferrari, Audi or BMW comes close to being such a special place to sit) and the incredible engine sound and sheer visceral driving experience and they are still unique.
      Most modern cars have refined out the sense of speed and the sensation of driving. TVR's provide those in spades to the point of being intimidating. In fact the values of most TVR's (and other similar cars - Lotus, Morgan etc) are now rising quite steeply as people recognise that we are in the final couple of decades of petrol powered motoring and people want to experience raw internal combustion motoring while they still can.

    Tamora Straight 6 engine was lowest powered in Tvr range, that's why it was the 'entry' level. It could be uprated though.
    Early Speed 6 engines had lots of issues, but they are well documented on why/fixing. You can now get a rebuild with 5 year/100k mile warranty - transferable - & this is for a race engine
    Speed 6 engines have more top end power, but less torque, the V8's have less top end, but more torque.
    Strong support from car club & Indy garages.
    They are cars unlike few others, enjoy them while you can.
    I think in another dimension Jay bought a Tvr, & not the Evora...........................& he's still got it......

    Quite funny, the made instruments "from space" but the mounted a steering wheel from the 80ties. I would prefer the classic Smith clocks.

    I think the Tam is the only TVR whose looks I can’t get on with. It looks squashed and the back end is straight up fugly.

    A subtle TVR. I still love it.
    I still dont understand TVR, being a fan and watching your TVR videos, of how TVR failed? Pure British sports car, different to all, a dying breed, Jay Lenno would approve yet still failed.

    Stunning to look at and listen to, no doubt awesome to drive. But as an ownership proposition I put TVR's in the same category as watercraft, exotic wildlife as pets, or dating girls with names like Tiffani or Mercedes.
    Great fun to daydream about, but probably best avoided for the sake of a stress-free life.

    wth were all tvr's v6? i always assumed they were v8 for no reason, it makes sense since the UK doesn't seem to like any v8 possibility's most the time.
    edit: oh i see so there was a v8 option, i was going to say as a child im sure the one i went up to was a v8 tuscan.

      Some early TVRs had Ford 4 cylinder engines, triumph straight 6, ford V6 (first the Essex, then the cologne). Then the Rover V8.

      Tvr developed the AJP V8 and the Speed Six engines. Sadly the AJP v8 was only put in the Cerbera and it is the better of the two engines but costly to make and so was fazed out in favour of the Speed Six. TVR also developed a Speed 12 engine by joining two Speed Six engines together, this went into the Cerbera Speed 12.

    Tamora the beginners TVR??? Hmm absolutely isn't.. That would be the Chimeara, then a Griffith, then a Tamora would slot in... Anything that has a speed 6 engine isn't a beginners TVR..

    There is no entry level TVR, it´s more or less pro-cars only. As no assistance-systems are at hand while a fat nasty engine is, you always have to know what your´re capable of handling if this cars get rude... and they will..... by the way... how about adjusting the clutch pedal? Might help....
