I like how Mike keeps it real and accurately clears things up.
Back in 1988 my mother and her friend June were taken to lunch by John Gotti. My mom's friend June was married to a juicer who was an associate of the Luchesi Family if memory serves. Anyway, its now 1988 and June & my mom are working retail in a dept. (June's husband had "passed" several years before due to "lead poisoning") store when Gotti shows up and takes them to a three hour lunch. My mom had no idea who John Gotti was as June introduced him as a "friend" from NY. My mom said Gotti was very nice and well spoken. About an hour into the lunch my mom said they have to get back to work and Gotti said, "don't worry about it, I'll take care of it." When June and my mom showed back up at work 3 hours later, Gotti went into the managers office for about three minutes and came out, told my mom and June it was all taken care of. A few minutes later a visibly shaken store manager goes up to my mom & June and tells them to clock out, they have the rest of the week off with pay. My mom was amazed this guy she never met had such pull. A few days later my mom & dad were watching TV when something about John Gotti came on the news and my mom said, "hey, that's the guy June and I had lunch with!" My dad just about shit himself. He informed her she had lunch with the head of the Gambino Family from NY. My mom, without skipping a beat said, "well that explains a lot."
Lol your mom sounds like a awesome lady :)
This is amazing I've always been a fan of gotti n this story is just typical of him.
@@Ian-ri4tp facts

Don't you think your mom had more than a lunch with Gotti?
I think Gotti definitely had more than "Lunch & Dinner" with June. Taken off for a week with payment for me was a dead give away to see john basically saying "Yeah take a week off and then let's have some fun :)".
Mob boss had few Goomah. I'm not saying your mom was his Goomah but don't you had the same suspicion?

Amd more alive
Its the smoking. Ever watch an old Bogart movie? That guy looked 100 but was 30's. Smoking
@@robertgary3561 I don't think it's smoking, it's just genetics. Some people seem to age faster than others. I know people who have smoked their whole lives and look 20 years younger than they should. It's really pretty crazy, but I do sincerely think that it has more to do with genetics than anything else.
And, you know, the acute lead poisoning one gets from being in a crime organization.
Turns out a lot of mafia bosses ended up with a bad case of the murders.
Crazy how many people's memories this guy carries with him.
I mean the dude is 70 years old. And from the looks of it looks very healthy for his age. He probably went through so much he probably doesnt remember everything, but he must have a good healthy brain cause he remembers a lot. fs
@@Issacandjacob truth! At 70 you'd have alot of life experiences to draw from, but the amount of people alive that carry that many dead peoples memories and stories with them are few and far between. That's more so why I meant this man is an anomaly!

Hi Michael,
Liked hearing your take on the silly list. I grew up near Pittsburgh, PA. And consider myself fortunate to have met Michael Genovese. Very nice man. Spent time helping him train his Rottweilers at his home.
True story- I went to school and played football with 2 brothers who we learned after we all graduated were the Chins grandchildren ( chins daughter sons) . The small suburban town we grew up in was located 20 minutes north of NYC so everyone was familiar with the Mob from watching the news . Looking back they were both respectful kids , good athletes and never once hinted to who their grandfather was. In all seriousness , the Chins daughter and son-in law did a great job raising their kids .
I don’t recall where I read this, but Chin was ADAMANT that neither his children or any other family followed him into crime. In the book I read they were saying how proud John Gotti was of Jr. getting made. Gotti was talking about it, and The writer said Chin sounded genuinely sad that Gotti had his son following him into OC.

Something that might be interesting to discuss is the lifestyle change that some of these guys on this list were forced to go through in terms of accessibility to their monetary resources after the crackdowns started to happen during the late 80s and early 90s. I was acquainted with Michael Genovese (#25) on the list, and at the time we connected his fortune was all but evaporated since his revenue streams were effectively gone due to federal cases against his earners, although he was never indicted personally. He could no longer access revenue streams and couldn't touch other assets because he remained under close scrutiny by federal authorities. He lived in a large deteriorating stone and brick home that he couldn't afford to maintain.
Should have made a few “well-calculated donations!”
I’d definitely love to hear more about the Greek guy and really any of the other guys outside of NYC.
Definitely expand more on Carlos Marcello. My grandfather was involved with him. He owned a gasoline distribution center and several gas stations in Terrebonne Parish which is about an hour Southwest of New Orleans. I grew up as a kid hearing stories about it. I was always intrigued even as a kid.

Thank you for talking about this list Michael, I've been very curious about it ever since I first heard about it. To answer your question about Gus Alex, the Chicago mob (or Outfit as it's more commonly referred to as) was always somewhat unique to the other mafia families in the states in that there were a number of non-Italian associates who, though they could never be made, nevertheless commanded a great deal of respect and influence in the organization going all the way back to Al Capone. You had guys like Jake "Greasy Thumb" Guzik, Murray "The Hump" Humphreys, Lenny Patrick, etc. Many of these guys were the bagman type who had the connections to the political and business world and through that exercised a lot of influence as advisors, power behind the throne you might say. Gus Alex was another version of this. I'd like to point out that even in New York you had similar individuals, people such as Meyer Lansky, who, though he could never be formally made, was just as much a wiseguy as any Italian could ever be.
I'd be interested in a book about Micheal dad. How he shaped mr.franzese.

Frank Balistreri...the Milwaukee Boss in the 60s-80s was pretty powerful for running a relatively small family.
He was heavily involved in the Vegas skim and had strong ties with the Outfit. He was smart and one of the few mob bosses who was college educated and both of his sons became lawyers and helped him in the family business.
The commission actually was floating his name around to join because he had pretty strong influence with the Teamsters Union.. That never happened though because he ended up getting a long jail sentence. That's kind of a big deal though for a boss of a smaller city. It is even rumored that he ordered the car bombing of Lefty Rosenthal(Ace Rothstein) in the movie Casino.
Anyway, I'm from Wisconsin so had to represent for my cities mob days. Lol. Great vid as usual.
I think he is the guy Frank Cullata said growled when he talked. Tonly Spilatro came up under Frank Balistrei. Tony was always afraid when he went to see him according to Cullata. I am from Wisconsin also. Gotta represent!

Yeah I remember back in 70's- 80'$ I lived in a predominant Italian neighborhood and I just look back on it growing up there and how proud , generous and no nonsense it was , you kept your mouth shut unless spoken too. My biggest memory was this little Italian ran store and it was there since early 1900's the original owners wife whom at that time was this amazing older Italian woman and she'd always give me little penny candy bags filled with free candy for years she did this. Anyways they were doing some cleaning out of this one area and were adding a sit down area for the deli , she gave me a huge box of comic books 100's along 100's of them going back to early 30's that were just sitting collecting dust this was an amazing gift from her .I saved acouple dozen and had them valued plus cased I sold most of my collection and I got around $280.000 yes you seen that right it came to 280,000$ . I gave back and donated some of the money just for the fact of paying it forward because of the kindness of her heart to give a hard working kid something I could never buy because my money went to keep the family going. So yeah everytime I take abit out the cash machine I see her smiling at me but anyways it was a great time and place to live the neighborhood these days people don't have the unity like then whole block parties with lots and lots of food music and all around fun... people today forget it was mostly the Italians and some Irish that paved the way across America and sad thing we'll never again have the unite, respect and care again in our country....

Soon we’ll have him sitting on the toilet with his pants down.
Love your vids, Michael.
May I suggest an idea for a vid?
The ten best lines in mob movies.
My own favorite? Take the gun. Leave the cannoli.
Amazing list so far Im at 23,25 so far and Im blown away by how many on this list have moved on I feel compelled to say at this stage. At the end of the list now. You are very fortunate matey :)
Hi michael i have a question, if you met one of youre old friends when you were in that life today what would the mood or conversation be like?
Forget about it
" I was the richest of em' all but I distributed my wealth among top mob bosses, and called any one of those whenever i needed something. That's how Feds n IRS never got hold of us...." Gianni russo.😎
I would love to hear more about Vincent "the chin" and if Gotti was scared of him
The FBI said that Gotti absolutely feared the Chin. The Chin was the only boss, and really that was the only family, the Genovese Family, that Gotti didn't bitch about in those thousands of hrs of tape. Said he'd almost go into a whisper whenever discussing Gigante. Was scared of him because of what Chin did to drug dealers. He killed TWO different guys for dealing drugs by throwing each different guy off the top of a substantial sized roof! He blew up Gotti's underboss w/a car bomb... Gotti never avenged DiCicco's death. I'd say Gotti absolutely did fear em, 100%
If Vincent was so tough why he didn't wanna kill Costello he grazed him on purpose they chose to shelve him instead of whack him
@@bro-bh5kj Have you ever fired a smaller-caliber handgun??!! Deliberately grazing a man, in that situation, is not even a fuckin thing, my friend.... All due respect.
@@bro-bh5kj dumbest comment
@@matthewrider6456 I don’t think cold blooded gangsters fear other cold blooded gangsters
Michael I find your you toon videos so interesting. I thank God you’re still alive, God bless.
"I was very good friends with sonny franzese" - Gianni Russo.
This is actually a real quote by the way he said it in an interview with vlad, after sonny franceze had died of course.
Live next to Pittsburgh didn’t know there was a mob there and they’re still active according to google
Never been to Pittsburgh but I assumed since Youngstown had some, they did too.
Someone in my family was good friends with someone poweful in the Pittsburgh family
@@SGobuck Youngstown was part of Cleveland, Chicago, and Pittsburg families. Used to be the Naples family
There all still active other then the Bufalino family from what I’ve heard but who knows
Mike Genovese was number 25 on the list. He was first cousin with Michael Genovese from NY. He passed away. His underboss Charles Porter (Chucky Porter) turn informed on the family, he now passed away as well. They was out of New Ken & Penn Hills. But original all from Larmer area of Pittsburgh. There was other families in McKeesrocks (Mancini‘s Bread ) was a part of that family. Another big name was Nick the Blade (Eugene Gesuale) just passed away recently. Another name was Anthony Lagattuta (Ninny the torch) tied in with the mentioned above Mancinis bread (Bobby Mancini) as well Ninny had ties to state representative Frank Gigliotti, Frank got caught take bribes for contracting bids. Ninny ran and owned the famous Lotus Club in South Side.
Other names. The Pittsburgh number “czar” Adolpho (Junior) Williams. Sebastian (Big John) LaRocca. Henry (Zebo) Zottola, Eugene Chiarelli.
Please feel free to add anyone I may have missed.
Love everything you do thank you god bless you and your family Michael
Blessings to you Michael Franzese a true man of faith and the testament of time 🙏🏾
Los Angeles A Family...They’re A Glorified Crew
You know what would be nice and interesting
Michael sitting down with Sammy the bull gravano that would be nice if they can't then they could do like a zoom call that would be nice
That would be legendary
I'm sure too much red tape for that atm
Would love to hear more about Santo Trafficante!
Mike you have come so far, love love everything you are doing, thank you
Tuffy from Kansas City where I’m from definitely belongs on this list!!!!
It would be interesting to hear more about Gigante and why he might be considered the most powerful at the time, also would the other bosses have agreed?
He was certainly smart and careful, the whole act he put on was amazing
Any boss for the Genovese would be considered powerful being they are, in all probability with the most influence.
But the way The Chin conducted himself and the amount of high regard and respect he had made him just revered as the most powerful at the time. The newspaper say John Gotti, but EVERYONE knew in that Life that The Chin was the absolute most powerful.
Heard that too that mo fo was ballin soo hard he and Anthony gasso (gas pipe) put a hit on John Gotti n Sammy the Bull now thats a story id like to 👂
The Genovese family have always been the first or second most powerful, depending on the era, so that automatically puts Chin up there. If you then add in how smart, respected and ruthless he was, then he's got to be number 1.
I’m from Louisiana so Carlos being from New Orleans has always been interesting to me Deff gonna look forward to it 🖤🙏🏼
I love watching these stories about the mob, still gotta say my favourite is Charles (Lucky) Luciano
I'm from the Detroit area originally. I remember the Hoffa days, Provenzono, Giacalone (Tonyjack). I was in the UAW, but the Teamsters were a feared union.
My grandfather paid the Giacalone guys every Friday to do business.
I’ve also heard stories from my dad about Tony Jack and Papa John Prizziola
compared to politicians these are all stand up honest guys.
I mean you rather see the politician in a dark ally than any of them but politicians decisions effects larger number of people so kinda
Pelosi
Corporations holds weight in law making process by lobbying which is like legel corruption .. Compare internet connection and speed of USA too south Korea the difference is south Korea has competition between internet providers where American based companies split up the country where they don't have to compete and lobbied to make it law
Compared to politician EVERYONE is a stand up honest guy.
They’re all the same
Michael, make an analysis about “ once upon a time in America” please !! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Love to hear what your father thought of these movies as well, which oneS he liked/disliked. Could give a great perspective.
That’s my favorite movie of all time (the full version). I hope he reviews it
