    Hi Michael i know you're doing an interview or planning to with Larry Lawton soon. I'm sure Larry said he was either in prison with or dealt with "Little Vic" in the street (late 80s early 90s) as part of his mob ties. Might be some good common ground if you two could discuss that in a future interview.

    Years before my nonnie passed, she told me our family used to be connected to the mobb but I’m not sure to what extent. My mother grew up next too Colombo’s but I’m not sure it’s the same family. I’m pretty sure one of them was Rocky Marciano’s aunt or sister. My nonnies mother, my Nana was born in Rome and initially was a Decenzo. I had no idea until after she passed, and her family came to Pennsylvania then eventually moved to the north end of Boston where she raised my grandmother (nonnie) inside of the same building as pizza raginas. After that I don’t know much, other than my nana was getting help financially from the mob. This was all years ago now obviously, sadly both my nana and nonnie passed 2018.

    The KKK incident you talked about later inspired a film called 'Mississippi Burning' starring Willem Deffoe and Gene Hackman from 1988 and is without doubt one of the best FBI films ever made. Interestingly this film doesn't mention any Mafia involvement in this investigation, in fact it doesn't even hint at it and I wonder after hearing this if this angle was deliberately left out to protect Scarpa who would have been very much at his prime at the time the film was made.

    • @LennyCole96
      @LennyCole96 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yeah I think it was to protect Scarpa someone in the life must've known he'd travelled down south around that time and it would've raised a lot of suspicion

    • @townfanjohn
      @townfanjohn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Michael Franceze is the last of his kind. He's the very last of the mob heavyweights who were really making shit happen and have actually lived to tell about it. All the major mob heavyweights over the last half-century are all dead and gone. They either got killed or died in prison. The rest are all in prison for life. All of the mob bosses of that Golden AGE are gone. Gotti, Castellano, Dellacroce, The Chin, Persico, Fat Tony, Tony Ducks, Gaspipe Casso, Bonanno, Galante, and many others who were really movers and shakers in the MOB are gone. Sammy The Bull and Michael Franzese are the only 2 heavyweights from that GOLDEN AGE OF THE MOB from the early 1970s-early 1990s. The rest are either dead or in prison for life. Either they got murdered or died in prison. When I say, heavyweights, I mean guys who made mega-millions of dollars for themselves and their MAFIA FAMILIES and had Cosa Nostra riding high, and Sammy and Mike are the only two guys left to tell the tale today.

    In my personal opinion, Mike maneuvered himself with an incredible amount of foresight, and perhaps broke his parole intentionally to save his own life. If that was the case (I have no idea if it was), it was NOT cowardice. He had a family, and he had to ensure his own self-preservation after he had "one foot out-the-door" in regards to his chosen profession at that time. After spending hours listening to him, I've come to the conclusion that Mike is more intelligent than 99% of other made guys and associates. Why? He did not prefer to handle disputes with violence, he was an absolute unit of a businessman, and he could compromise (and not be taken advantage of) without losing his temper. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Mike put business and compromise ahead of his ego, and probably only used violence when he absolutely had to. He's an absolute legend!

    How difficult was it to finally convince law enforcement that you turned your life around? I know you’ve mentioned that in that life, you are constantly monitored by law enforcement. Does that still happen to this day? I hope that question is not too personal or offensive. I just think it would be an interesting topic. I know you mentioned becoming friends with Mr Pistone and Giuliani. God bless Mike.

    Thank you so much for this, Michael. This is a subject I had requested in the comments, and I appreciate you sharing this story. Hearing you, on a subject of this magnitude, gives a sense of the personalities and politics of that era in a way that few modern outsiders have experienced before.
    It does seem like a blessing in disguise that you were locked away and unable to join this conflict, and it makes me wonder about your experiences in regards to the previous war from 71-75 (dates according to news sources). You've said you were right there when the attack on Joe Colombo started this conflict, and I feel for how traumatic that must have been for you.
    I would be quite interested to hear what insights you have about the "Gallo War" that followed that shocking attack at Columbus Circle. In particular- and while I understand and respect if you don't want to name names- there has always been questions in the public in regards to the politics of this hit- if Joe Gallo acted "alone" or if other families felt the need to silence Joe Colombo over the League.
    Even still, if you don't want to touch that particular question, I imagine this whole period would be a pivotal point in your career- it ushered in the regime of your bosses, and seemed to happen right before you got on the books. I am confident you can really shed a new light on the inner politics of that time, and break some new ground just as you did in this excellent video.
    Content like this is heavy, and we don't want to revel in the violence. At the same time, breaking down the human politics of these situations is a fascinating and educational in a way that you are uniquely positioned to provide. Its from a bygone and largely forgotten age of rampant corruption taking over New York City. You stand as a living testament and archive of this knowledge.
    I want to close by again expressing my gratitude for the effort and quality you put into this channel.

      second reply that's more of a monologue than anything but the whole "previous generations were better and this generation is the bane of the whole existence" always pisses me tf off because 1) It's not like shit didn't happen before, we just can see every little thing now because of the internet and 2) If this generation was messed up then at least a significant part of the culpability lies with the generation that raised this generation. But in reality, generation over generation we see these same sentiments. In the good ol days tulsa burns. I don't really have a neat way to tie this all up and I'm probably straw-manning the shit out of this but like this take annoys me enough to leave this here anyways lol.
