In general, in the thousands of videos I've watched, the circular parries are getting smaller and smaller over time. The circular parries have to be large enough of an angle, 45 degrees, and large enough in diameter to actually be effective. Most of the parries I see currently are simply too small in both to be effective. The other thing is, during a parry, keep the back hand anchored to the hip. Otherwise, there is no strength in them.
