Compressed air via spark plug hole will seat the valves and make it easier to drop your collets in.. Like the $35 LS compressor tool 👍🏼

Great to see the 304 still being worked on 👍
I've got one out of a 91 VQ Statesman in the shed that's been there for years. Was a runner completely std. Got the trans there also which was completely rebuilt and shift kitted not long before I got it. The guy got his trans done and a couple of weeks later went sideways/backwards into a tree so I got it all pretty cheap. Not sure what I'm going to do with it tho. Might drop it in my old Subaru Brumby as RWD only or put it in my old MK triton 4x4. Just need an ignition box/module and alternator bracket... can't remember why they didn't come with it, too long ago now.

I bought this after seeing your video, my head's were off I couldn't get the springs to compress using supercheapo C spring valve clamps garbage tool, this tool was easy as and cheap too. My valve locks were stuck on the valves so this was alot easier pushing the valve up from other side and removing the locks thanks mate

Good video mate. My advice is your installed seat pressure with the shims and those Comp springs is too high. 130 lbs on the seat is heaps for a flat tappet cam. Maybe try those new Comp springs without the shims you added.

Thanks Al, yes I agree its not ideal mate. But that's the type of compromise I'm in with this setup as I need that seated pressure behind the intake valve. The saving grace here is that the cam is seriously run-in (8 passes NA plus dyno time with the old springs) which is the main concern when running high spring pressures on new cams. Plus Its small lift/non aggressive cam too which will also help. I'm dammed if I do, dammed if I don't here as valve float due to low spring pressure can kill the motor just as quick. At the end of the day its a R'n'D motor and you've risk it for the biscuit! - Gus

Hi thanks for the video,I'm looking at putting the same cam in my Vn 304 and have not done it before so this was a good help to see how to change the springs....can I just ask to put new valve stem seals in can you do it like this while you have the springs out do they just slide out and slide down the new one? or is there more to it? Cheers

Hi Mate, if your heads are already machined for positive stem seals then yes you can just slide them off and replace them at the same time as switching out the springs.
