Fantastic idea of putting both keepers on , then depressing the spring so they just get hooked in the groove all by themselves. Worked like a charm, and I thank you for the idea.
man im going to make my own i been struggling trying to make one to compress and is been difficult and i need one now so this is a very easy one to make thanks
Thats F's awesome! I spent up to 5 minutes per valve with a compressor trying to get these friggin things in! Gotta try it now with a pipe and a slug although my stems sit higher off the keepers....? Probably just counter bore the slug.
I find the Keepers go back in more successfully if you put them side by side, as opposed to one above and one below. It's a gravity thing. Just ask Isaac 😉😆
@JDMods Garage I've got 2 valves with slightly unseated keepers 1 has just 1 a lottke unseated won't obvs allow shims . Other likeky font need much to sort . May need to do string trick feel a pillock as all seals replaced can't believe I failed to notice it. If I use compressed ait what do others use to seal ? And pressire needed ?
Like my Toyota 4age 20 valve? I have a Lisle 36200 tool that worked well on my S2000 but it's way too big for the 4age 20 valve! I had to abandon the valve stem seal replacement. I wonder if the 36050 will be small enough
Gee, I don't know. I bought a valve spring compressor on ebay for about $20.00. It is a breeze to remove the keepers and just as easy to put them back. Why not just use the correct tool?
Is a dirty gte head.. but tried this method.. sent the locks a hundred foot somewhere…. Now i gotta pay 20$ for a single lock.. dangit.. why are they so damn expensive?
He was just showing what happens if you use the tool "as is" vs. The mod he used so the tool worked even better, great video man! Almost quit mechanics altogether because of installing keepers/ springs until I came across a similar video like this except in the other video he used a piece of foam in the socket instead of a dowel which both seem to work and I've tried 4 different spring compressor tools, they all fckn suck not to mention none of them worked for getting my exhaust valves out sooo had to make my uh "own way" lol mechanics at its finest I guess!
Hu very interesting ,,,installing new valves on my 3.0 Mitsubishi engine valves are like URS very tight place. This will be a very interesting thing to try.My dad will look at me like 😵😵😵😵 wow son your a genius.

Did u use the small dowel to ?
Did u use his method or just the tool itself ?
been struggling for hours trying to get just 1 of my 16 valves back in, going to give this a go. Thanks for posting
Put a piece of foam in your tool and the press down homie, then the keepers will be pushed into place, 100% of the time
Foam ? It don't catch them ?
of all methods this helped the most👌🏽
Soft springs! I'm rebuilding my head from a bmw I6 and there is no way that's going to work, but thanks all the same!
Mine might as well just be solid bars, they take some serious work with a spring compressor to move them. Push by hand! Ha!
My thought, too. No way my 6.2's springs are compressing by hand. Still a neat trick for the engines it works on!
Check out the valve master they came out with a tool for the 3 keepers
@Will you'd be surprised . They don't need to compress fully
To add to your tool get a rubber hose that fits loose around valve stem and fits in side your keeper and put it through your valve tool push
There should be another part to that tool with the little point that goes in the hole where the keepers are?
Hell yeah. Thanks for cheap easy way of replacing keepers in a flush with head valves.
man im going to make my own i been struggling trying to make one to compress and is been difficult and i need one now so this is a very easy one to make thanks
Brilliantly simple, thank you.
Thx for making video. Rebuilding a Toyota 4AFE, was getting frustrated
Just had to use a similar way on my Kx250f, Thanks!
Really helpful tip. You just made my day. Thank you very much.

How did you keep the valves from moving down when you installed the springs & keepers?
Look like pretty soft springs
Wow this is what i have been looking for...easy way to open valve
Its a good idea , anyhow I put a piece cloth on it and press it slowly, it works 98 percent times
You could literally sell this as a tool kit. I'd definitely buy it because I have no idea where I'd find an appropriate sized dowel pin 😂

If I filled my cylinder with air to keep the valve up, Couldn’t I technically do this without removing the head ?
Yes that is a pretty common technique that works well! You can also use string. I had the head off to do a head gasket anyway

Nice hack🖒. check out Lisle valve retainer tool model 36200. Similar concept. Cost like 25 bucks
What did you hold the valve up with?
Nice . This work ok on (only 2 ) valves with head on strong trick ? Bloody pissed off kicking myself for not noticing /checking 100%
Would a dab of Greece on the keepers help ..I'm just about to do this
Beautiful work 🤌🏼
Using the rope in the cylinder, can I use the starter to get to TDC or will that damage the valve?
I'd turn crank it's only a gasket ..much safer
Which tool is that and where did you buy it? Good video.
this works about as good as trying to thread a sewing machine and it running
Not sire this is sarcasm but that I can do also lol
I'm about to do this on my vg30dett, thanks for the tip
Thx this video helped me out! Please make more!
thanks, this worked for me.
Beautiful mate, you just made my day. Chur
Won't work on valve stems that extend past the keepers, but it's a nice hack, thanks for the video!!

@@RolanTHUNDER yes the 36050 kit has a smaller diameter tool than 36200
Wow, surprisingly similar to the BMW M60 head.
Take your gloves off , a bit of oil can’t hurt, tilt the head so it’s 90 deg plumb so the retainer can’t fall out side ways.
so did you make this tool
Great tip, thank you very much!
Thanks,great tip
How do u get rocker arm off 2jz
great idea!
Great idea
I work on bikes sometime two valves sometimes four ...I can imagine you car guys hahahahah goodluck
JUST GREAT!
Thanks for the tip!
Springs are soft nowadays because valves have thin (around 6mm) stems ; materials are much better, things are not what they used to be...
Good job 👍.
Never thought about this. Thought that tool was just for installing stem seals.
What is the name of that tool and where can i get it? Thanks

Hell yea love it
Thank you. God bless.
Best way is to use a valve spring compressor, put the Collets in and take the compressor off 🤣🤣
Impressive!!!

I feel like I'm doing something wrong. I can't just push the springs down.
Nice!!!...thx for the insight

Couldn't u have put the dowel inside from the start and avoid that situation?
Its a comparison video

cool trick but would been good if u videoed it from the opposite side cuz i didnt see shit lol

Very cool idea, a pipe and a slug, why spend 52$ for a lisle 36050! Im thinking I can just cut the head off a bolt to make my slug. Thanks!
I believe you are using the retrieval piece of that tool and not the placement piece lol
How do you keep the valves stable and not falling from the other side?
By using compressed air or rope.
It's not a hack it's called a tool and the VS1542
Comes with the installing shaft
Dug phuck 🤔🤔🤔...you can physically compress your spring? Wow....my 1" thick tool is bending just to compress 1....
Lisle 36050
keepers left and right for tool....not top and bottom.......also with hack
