    Absolutely awful- very disappointing that eBay did not take a stand on this. Poor behavior and scamming continues to be rewarded. That being said great job keeping your viewers informed Dan! I really feel the hobby is in a bad place. Dust has settled, the lights have been turned on, and we’re seeing scam after scam on TH-cam.

    The seller who has dealt with many high end & rare 90s cards, would have definitely known this was not a real PMG but submitted anyway.... or did the colouring in themselves.. screams scammer to me
    eBay has opened the doors for scammers.... a fake card in a fake slab with a real label, eBay checks the label matches the auction title... win for the scammer...

    This is ultimately a BGS problem. eBay AG can only really do so much on a graded card. It would be near impossible to authenticate a card in a slab already. eBay is relying on the grading companies to know what they are doing. Is AG perfect no but it’s better than what we had before. If this was a raw card this never makes it thru AG they would reject it in seconds.

    • @35auburn
      @35auburn 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It would be really interesting to see stats on the items rejected via the AG program.
      Is CGC not catching everything they should, hence psa soon to take over both raw and graded?

    • @DanTheCardMan2
      @DanTheCardMan2  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It is unequivocally a BGS problem but its highlighted a gap within eBay policy and completely undermined it. They are reliant on the grader when the grader themselves will not stand by their own work.
      It's exposing them to fraud and we will continue to see more of it until they fix it. eBay should amend the AG policy for instances in which graders admit fault.

    • @35auburn
      @35auburn 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @DanTheCardMan2 based on sheer numbers, there's likely many more psa mislabeled/misgraded cards passing through authentication.
      Bgs obviously is at fault in this and many other examples, but the AG program could benefit from some language covering blatant grading/authentication errors.

    • @DanTheCardMan2
      @DanTheCardMan2  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They need to update the wording because the AG passed when in reality it shouldn't have. The card is no longer as described and is therefore a fail. There needs to be some clarity around that in their policy.
      I am a huge fan of AG, I've copped plenty of flak for supporting it in the past but this is a concerning insight imo

    I told everyone - once the slab is authenticated and passed by eBay Authentication, its out of the sellers hands if theres any problems. Once Beckett confirmed the slab was authentic ebay had to pay the seller. The problem is with Beckett and the buyer for buying this terrible card and not checking the previous sales of the seller.

    the bottom line isn't ebay supporting this particular "scam", but ebay's authentication guarantee program being complete nonsense from the start. as advertised, they made sure the card wasn't in a fake case, so they had to let the seller keep the money in order to abide by the rules they put on themselves. the buyer getting screwed is a result of BGS making a mistake, not ebay following their authentication guarantee. ebay paid out of pocket to the buyer when it should've been BGS paying it out

Caveat Emptor is the card world. eBay authentication has always been BS, only thing that did was make the seller wait a month to get paid. That's my experience as a seller. Anyone spending thousands on products that don't increase in value has money to blow and doesn't understand the history of cards or money or investments. Modern cards have never been an investment . Pre 1969 are the only cards with smaller print runs and all that vintage has been juiced and graded. Cards has been taken over by scammers, thanks to Ken Goldin and Don West, 40 years ago . I think eBay completely did the right thing both ppl got the money because THEIR guarantee failed. You are assuming eBay is going to screw the buyer in the future which is possible but BOTH parties got their money in this case and that’s exactly how it should go in the future if eBay’s guarantee fails. The point of that guarantee is for eBay to protect the buyer and seller. They make a fortune in fees and if their GUARANTEE fails they should eat it on both sides. It’s their fault for having a trash guarantee program. How does it not make sense to you that they guruanteed the sale with the buyer and seller and now can flip flop and tell the seller hey we changed our minds. The word GURUANTEE is pretty straight forward. They should of caught it and if they don’t both sides should be treated the way they were in this instance.

    • @DanTheCardMan2
      @DanTheCardMan2  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Their guarantee didn't fail. It passed.
      Their guarantee has a huge loop hole in instances like this where its built on false pretenses. The guarantee can't work because the card is not as described due to the grading error.

    • @danieljwatkinsjr7121
      @danieljwatkinsjr7121 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That is my whole point. You aren’t following along. eBay’s guarantee program passed a fake card therefore the program as a whole FAILED. Since eBay’s program is an authenticity guarantee and it passed a fake card and FAILED both the BUYER and SELLER than EBAY should be on the hook both ways. The buyer should get a refund because they were told the card was authentic GUARANTEED and the seller should get paid because they were also told it was authentic GUARANTEED. It makes no sense to even have the program if they can guarantee a card and then a week later change their mind because they screwed up the first time. EBay got it right and should honor the seller and refund the buyer in the future. Maybe they should actually do their job and get it right the first time since they have unlimited cash and resources.

      There is no loophole either. You called this card was fake just from a picture off the auction and no offense but you aren’t God. If anyone was really doing their due diligence this card should have been flagged and reviewed seriously not just passed through and check marked because it was in a real slab. If eBay wants to have a half assed review program than they should pay the consequences both ways

      @DanTheCardMan2  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The card is fake though? Not sure if that was a shot at me?

  • @gsquared.collectibles8392
    @gsquared.collectibles8392 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

    This take...seems off, especially considering you conduct audits and review policies. You are looking at the ethics and morals of it, not the contractual obligation. eBay's trusted agent who conducted the review of the card under the AG contract, whether it was PSA or CGC passed it based on the requirements of their Authenticity Guarantee Contract. The terms of service between the seller and eBay is still in effect. eBay is actually honoring that term of service and contract between them and the seller of an item being a Final Sale after PASSING AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEE. eBay refunding the money themselves on the seller's behalf, is absolutely the right thing to do based on their own terms of service. Contractually, the seller didn't do anything wrong. Ethically and morally, the seller was dead ass wrong. Don't think for a minute that eBay will not go after their "trusted agent", whether PSA or CGC to recoup that money. Not to mention, probably amending the terms of that authenticity guarantee contract and what is a pass/fail. The more frustrating thing is amending that authenticity guarantee contract is going to push that cost to sellers.

    • @DanTheCardMan2
      @DanTheCardMan2  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I understand this argument for sure. My perspective is that their AG policy should be amended to account for grading error or when graders admit fault.
      Their policy is flawed in the first place because it takes an inherent belief that the graders are provided customers with a guarantee. BGS and SGC do not, therefore a gap exists.
      At the end of the day they've opened a can of worms for themselves. More will come, they will continue to be made out of pocket and collectors will be stuck with worthless cards.

    • @DanTheCardMan2
      @DanTheCardMan2  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The other thing to add is that the agreement is based on a false pretense. The card wasn't what was listed. eBay should then work on the sellers behalf for compensation from the grader.

    • @gsquared.collectibles8392
      @gsquared.collectibles8392 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@DanTheCardMan2 The AG was never identified as a process to confirm how appropriately a grading company graded a card. It was to confirm what the seller listed and described is what has been received and to watch out for fake slabs. The card was listed and sold as labeled regardless of BGS failure. Beyond the clearly unethical behavior, it did expose a loophole and opportunity that will more than likely be corrected, the seller technically did not do anything wrong based on the Terms of Service for selling, neither did the AG agent.Whether or not it was labeled correctly was never something that the AG Agent was not required to do nor was it never stated anywhere in any service information about the AG program that it would do that. eBay is actually doing more customer service wise by refunding the buyer out of their own pocket, but also standing by their seller policies. If they pulled the money from the seller, there are grounds to sue eBay for violating their documented terms. This shows on both ends that eBay is at least honoring something. If the Slab was tampered, then absolutely it should have failed. But it wasn't. No where in the policy does it state that the Authenticity Guarantee is confirming the grade of the card. Think about it this way - Slabbed card is a BGS 9.5 with all 9.5 subgrades. Do you think the graded card should be rejected by the Authenticity Guarantee program if Agent thinks the corners should be a 9?
