My man just picked up every movie that was randomly stacked up in line on the shelf and managed to talk about all of them without uttering a stammer! Respect.
he did get something wrong bout Drunken Angel @ 1:55, he said the title refers to Mifune's character but it's actually referring to Shimura's doctor he just mentioned and called a 'saint' (ie. could also be described as an angel, also the doctor is the alcoholic - also he literally calls himself an angel in one scene)
Vengeance is Mine 1:09 Drunken Angel 1:31 Simon of the Desert 1:59 City Streets 2:41 The Pajama Game 3:56 Meet Me in St. Louis 4:27 Sadie McKee 4:43 The Tall Target 5:39 Bad Day at Black Rock 6:20 A Streetcar Named Desire 6:40 Little Lord Fauntleroy 7:00 Marie Antoinette 7:26 Le Feu Follet 8:05 Classe tous Risques 8:40 Playtime 9:17 Agnes Varda / Vagabond 9:21 The Crime of Monsieur Lange 9:57 The Man who loved Women 10:54 Birth 11:54 Bridge of Spies 12:25 Drugstore Cowboy 13:04 Barfly 13:31 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 14:30 Hollywood: A Celebration of the American Silent Film 15:39 Witness 16:32 Neon Genesis Evangelion 19:22 Only Yesterday 19:53
He really reminds me of Tarantino. It's not just that they've seen every movie ever made. They also have an insane memory where they seem to remember every detail of every movie they've ever seen.
Tarantino definitely has the encyclopedic knowledge but he never comes off with the earnest reverence that Wes has here, and oh my god does Tarantino ramble. I cannot stand listening to Tarantino talking about movies. I know Wes Anderson has better things to do but I would watch him take three more trips around this store
@@SpotTheUnicorn I think he speaks with the exact same earnestness for films as does Anderson. And how can you say Tarantino rambles, which he does, but not say the same for Anderson? He barely stops to breathe here, lol..
It's great to see him so comfortable and confident. I remember seeing some of his earlier interviews back when he was still starting and his voice was much more timid and quiet then.
Whoever came up with this show, thank you! Love seeing my favorites lose their celebrity and talk about movies like a kid in a candy shop!....Raw, sincere & outstanding footage! THANK YOU!
This Format is absolutely fantastic, amazing work. Also nice that is only with subtitles and not dubbed so you can enjoy it in English. Love people that dedicated their whole life to something geeking out about a topic they are passionate about!
one of the most interesting videos I’ve seen in a long time. it was really fascinating hearing him talk about all these films, I could’ve listened to him for at least another hour. also a great watch if you want to expand your watchlist.
Respect to Wes. I would to see a video of him and Scorsese talking about movies. I wish your video was longer as it was fascinating to hear him talk about cinema.
One of the best feelings is to pick a film by accident in a video store shelf, and later discover you love it. Many frustrating encounters LOL sure, but always good to find a knew director or actors films you love to watch.
Would be great if Wes hosted a show on TCM or a podcast or something so we could all experience more of his love and thoughts on film. So knowledgeable and passionate about them.
Oh, my Godness. This is really great. Wes going around that VideoClub and picking up great stuff. Rashmore, it's one favorites of mine.. But I've not seen Asteroid yet. I look forward to seeing it soon. Great Video.
es recommended 'The Pajama Game' one of my all time favorite musicals. 'Meet Me in St. Louis' yes. 'Bad Day at Black Rock', 'A Streetcar Named Desire'...I've always depended on the kindness of strangers, 'Barfly'...'Look around you. Its a cage with golden bars' . Quite a list. Many of these I have not seen but will.
incroyable quelle érudition... thank you Mr Anderson you re first class as I thought you was and what a talent so much culture and so original (ce qui n'est pas évident...)

I love this. He reminds when autistic or adhd people are allowed to just happily info dump about what they love. (Im autistic/adhd...people look at you weird when you start excitedly talking about something you're passionate about).
I like the reference to 'Bad day in black rock' for Asteroid City, a very good movie i.m.o, with interesting Copland-like music by Previn as well, a kind of scoring one doesn't hear much anymore in movies these days. Anyway, very interesting generally, thanks for sharing.
Great work Konbibi, I find this series to be more fun than the criterion closet simply because of the greater selection. And the shop has more space and is a bit more colourful hah.
This was great! I felt enlightened by Anderson’s talk. By comparison, listening to Tarantino one ends up not enlightened but inside his head. I don’t want to be inside Tarantino’s head.
I only watched 6 or 7 films and I watched 2000 movies! For other directors interviews, I already watched 80% of the list. He didn't mentioned classics, he mentionnes movies he loves.
Wes Anderson movies are the only ones left worth seeing in theaters. Truly cinematic stuff…and some of them…like the Grand Budapest are also deeply engaging for their content.
A lot of the dates shown on screen are wrong here, is there a reason are we going off French release dates? Wes correctly had Marie Antoinette at 1938 and Vengeance is mine is 1979 for anyone struggling to find more details

He really reminds me of Tarantino. It's not just that they've seen every movie ever made. They also have an insane memory where they seem to remember every detail of every movie they've ever seen.
Its because they rewatch, deconstruct (and learn from) their favorite movies.

Much love from your English-speaking audience! Have rarely seen Wes Anderson speak so passionately about movies
I love that wes anderson refers to his movies as “our” movies as to give props to the rest of the cast and crew
I was gonna say this. He is probably a very nice person in real life.
I love the fact that Wes Anderson had watched Evangelion and thought to himself, "we could make a religion out of this"
It's great to see him so comfortable and confident. I remember seeing some of his earlier interviews back when he was still starting and his voice was much more timid and quiet then.

Only Yesterday is such an underrated studio ghibli gem! So happy he picked that one up!

I would have liked an entire hour of Mr Anderson discussing movies.

Wes talking about evangelion gotta be one of my fav moments that ever happened on earth
He even labeled "The End of Evangelion" as one of his favorite animated movies.
Would be great if Wes hosted a show on TCM or a podcast or something so we could all experience more of his love and thoughts on film. So knowledgeable and passionate about them.
His cadence of speech is very similar to his dialogue in his movies :) love it!
Reminds me of Gene Wilder's cadence
Am sure he could have commented every single movie of the shop with such culture, what a passionate cinemaniac ✨
Bro, Wes Anderson has an encyclopedic knowledge of movies. Impressive.
only yesterday is really a beautiful and touching film. people over 30 will appreciate it more than teenagers.
Oh, my Godness. This is really great. Wes going around that VideoClub and picking up great stuff. Rashmore, it's one favorites of mine.. But I've not seen Asteroid yet. I look forward to seeing it soon. Great Video.
A great artist thats so young. We have many years of great movies in front of us. Thx
Wow! Wes' knowledge of classic movies is immense, no wonder his movies are so good with all these great influences.
Wes Anderson talking about Evangelion!? I'm blown away. My favorite director talking about my favorite THING? I'm so grateful

Wes Anderson talking about Neon Genesis Evangelion is something I've never expected
You can tell he loves film, excitement in the way he talks!
Fascinant! I would just love an history of cinema series by Wes!!!
Oui absolument vrai ! Comme Fellini, Leone, Allen, etc.
I could listen to Wes the whole day and would be still be wanting more. Such deep cinematic knowledge.
Great to hear him speak at length on his favorite subject: FILM! Sublime.
incroyable quelle érudition... thank you Mr Anderson you re first class as I thought you was
and what a talent so much culture and so original (ce qui n'est pas évident...)
his knowledge is perhaps the most impressive I have ever seen, if him and Scorsese got together the universe would explode
That could have been twice as long and still would have felt too short. He is endlessly fascinating.
Whoever put up the list of the films Wes mentioned, your name will be carved on my tombstone.

This man is a GENIUS! There's absolutely no one like Wes Anderson!!!
Masterclass. Exquisite taste in the choices.
Quelle culture exhaustive du cinéma ! impressionnant !
This guy really knows his onions.
I really like directors talking about movie history ❤
Small note : "Only Yesterday" by Takahata is from 1991, not 1988; "Grave of the Fireflies" is from 1988.
This guy is a walking movie encyclopedia.
Wow !
I never heard someone describe the evangelion fandom so accurately, I guess the series does have that power.
Amazing! thank you so much for this series!
Impressionant.
Ps: à la fin il dit "Sueurs Froides, so that's Vertigo" j'ai remis trois fois avant de comprendre ce qu'il disait. 😅
I love this. He reminds when autistic or adhd people are allowed to just happily info dump about what they love. (Im autistic/adhd...people look at you weird when you start excitedly talking about something you're passionate about).
seriously such a special man, i hope wes lives forever
I could listen to wes talk about movies for hours!
Dans mon top 3 de mes réals préférés ❤
The music clip you use for Fantastic Mr. Fox isn't Alexandre Desplat but a song written by Jarvis Cocker, Wes Anderson, Noah Baumbach.
He's so excited and happy, i love him.
Such a passionate and creative man, also impressed with his diverse knowledge of cinema 👍
I never thought that a director could be that nice
L'un de mes réalisateurs préférés
As usual, Wes Anderson, Master of Details.
I like the reference to 'Bad day in black rock' for Asteroid City, a very good movie i.m.o, with interesting Copland-like music by Previn as well, a kind of scoring one doesn't hear much anymore in movies these days. Anyway, very interesting generally, thanks for sharing.
I can’t believe I see a day where Wes Anderson talk about Neo Genesis Evangelion.

Wesley is so me! Same taste ❤❤❤
Shut up
please do more of this , with directors. Talking about films and how they were shot earlier. I am from India, Kolkata(Calcutta) an ardent cinephile.
This was great! I felt enlightened by Anderson’s talk. By comparison, listening to Tarantino one ends up not enlightened but inside his head. I don’t want to be inside Tarantino’s head.
Birth is underrated. Jonathan Glazer made this in between Sexy Beast and Under the Skin. Its got a feeling of The Shining about it.
Impressionnante culture cinématographique !
I love Wes Anderson so much
Qu'es que j'aime ce gars 🤌
Loved it! More please
That was wonderful. Wes Anderson's knowledge of film makes Quentin Tarantino's seem quite parochial and limited.
I had never seen him in a video interview and I’m realizing how he is the living version of his scripts lol
Asteroid city is great but my favorite will always be darjeelinh limited!!
