Steve Kerr is an example of how a human being should conduct himself: a family man, humble, cultured, well-behaved, admits when he's made a mistake, gives credit where credit is due, competitive as any sportsman should be, engaged with social causes and politics.

Steve Kerr is such a gifted orator. Just watching him have a conversation with Jon Stewart with equal wit and thoughtfulness is super impressive. Warriors fans should be proud to have such a coach.

Steve Kerr is not just a great coach; he is simply a great human being. Loved this episode.
Those of you who don't know Steve Kerr just got a taste of why Warriors fans are so happy to have him as coach. He is a grownup who has had an amazing journey. I expect the men who play for the Warriors know he had five NBA championship rings BEFORE he arrived in Oakland and that he still is among the most accurate 3 point shooters of all time. He is also a hell of a coach, building on his years with Phil Jackson and Greg Popovich, two legendary coaches. The Warriors are in good hands. Wonderful interview.
I still remember watching the bulls in the early 90's man that's when basketball was basketball.

Adaptive management of a team that honors and respects each individual. It's a hallmark of sustainable programs -- balancing economics with work environment and social equity issues. It's simply good team management on and off the court.

Jon Stewart is the world's most charming and engaging conversationalist. No other like him. I don't even know who Steve Kerr was but I still loved the entire discussion.

As much as Steve Kerr demonstrated an ability to articulate what he has learned (and unlearned), I came away more impressed with how Jon Stewart can formulate difficult questions and further enhance the discourse on a subject matter that most would find very uncomfortable. Thank You Steve and Jon....I only wished it was longer. (The random factoid with the players on their phones at halftime was an eye opener).
This has to be (as a person of color) the most refreshing conversation I’ve seen between to older white men; with that I just want to say that it’s not just that they have to be that exceptional but usually have exceptional parents or someone (or multiple) else in their lives to make sure they are at the right places when they’re young enough for it to make a difference in the outcome of their lives

What I appreciate here is that Jon centers the conversation around problems that white people have in relation to the black experience, instead of the black experience itself. It’s nice since they are aware of being white and how it could be super out of touch if two white guys talked directly about the black experience
We need more coaches and people in general who can look at America the way these two gentlemen do and perhaps we could solve more problems. 🤔

Oh wow, this is so good. Who knew Steve Kerr had so many jewels to drop? And how has Jon Stewart not lost a step with his interviewing style and his insightful analysis of the problem? I typically cringe when white people are having a conversation about us without us there, but this should be required viewing/listening - especially for those in leadership positions!
To me this thought process is part of the problem, "when white people are having a conversation about us without us there". It just continues the cycle of keeping as "us vs them" instead of breaking down the vs that creates the wall that divides.

I love that this conversation is happening and I think it needs to be applied is a much broader sense to include far more groups of people.

What a beautiful conversation/interview that I just saw and listened to between 2 intelligent,open minded ,empathetic and articulate and funny men about what's going on not just in sports but on social issues. It became bad when politicians conned citizens into believing compromise was "weakness". Which of course it's not.

What a marvelous conversation. It's not surprising to me that some of the most insightful discussions of race have participants from the NBA. Greg Popovich, Steve, Steph Curry, Charles Barkeley. on and on. Another things these guys are really deep on is teamwork. Lots of really deep discussions in the NBA community.

These are the kind of conversations that I love to hear, because these are the conversations that we need to have. The solution isn't something that can fit in a soundbite, but the things these two talked about are an important start.
They won't.. This why I don't take white liberals seriously.. It's easy to shit all over your own race with words, but until their is some action behind it. Then it's just liberal garbage.
I haven't given Jon's new show much attention (haven't found it funny yet), but I'm here for the engaging conversation. This was a great interview and Kerr is one of the all time greats.
Comedy isn't the main point of this new show.
I'm starting to think that what we, as a society, as a species, forget about as a country or indivuals need most right now is open conversation with those we don't agree with.
The openness to be really honest about how we feel and the willingness to listen to respond as opposed to win the discussion.
Winning then becomes talking again with the same person and you and they slightly changing with each interaction.
The humour's there but it's there to glue the conversation together.
He is not talking about the idiosyncrasies of politicians or the mass media anymore, rather he has dialed his show to specific topics. It is hard to be funny talking about gun violence caused by their partners, or veterans suffering from cancer from black smoke. I think it would be a disservice to those serious social issue if the show is as funny as The Daily Show.

Not being a bulls fan I always liked Steve Kerr the same way I always liked Kevin McHale even though I hated the Celtics.
That said, this is the first time I hear Steve talking about social issues (really about something other than basketball)
and so I want to say now I have found yet another reason to admire him far beyond being my fav team's head coach.
Thank you Steve, my respect for you has just reached a whole new level.

First I watch the Dubs lose to the Suns (BADLY), then I watch the Dubs beat the Suns (smack down) and then the Warriors lose to the Spurs. What an emotional roller coaster! I can’t imagine what Steve Kerr goes through mentally as the coach. All I can say is, he is worth every penny the Warriors are paying him. And what a humble person!
He played and coached under Popovich. So i imagine he would take Pop's attitude about this, which was "It's just a basketball game. Get over yourself and let's have dinner."
I’m not sure that Kerr is really that amazing of a coach. The talent on that team is obviously unparalleled. Had mark jackson stayed on that team another year, we would be saying the same about him
@@ep3578 Mark jackson's offense was completely revamped by kerr. Also, Jackson's religious 'enthusiasm ' that permeated the locker room made many really uncomfortable . It is no coincidence that Jackson has not been offered a coaching gig since them. Sometimes Having too many stars on the team makes coaching even harder. Take a look at the Nets and the Lakers.

Thanks for taking on this conversation Jon and Steve. More influential White men need to follow your examples to make a dent in this problem. Just read some of the comments here and you will see how far we have to go. I cannot wait to see your follow up podcast on this issue. I have never followed sports. But Stephen Curry and Steve Kerr got me to watch the highlites of Warrior games and their interviews.
The issue is in the black community themselves at this point tho..this narrative that cops kill unarmed black people all the time is so insane and wrong that it makes everything else Steve says is eye rolling. Steve Kurr hasn't mentioned anything about China having child labour and modern day slavery...which the NBA is a huge partner of. It's becoming almost a joke unfortunately. All this is, is Steve kurr feeling incredibly guilty of something he had nothing to do with and infantalizing the black community. This is called the bigotry of low expectations. It's a way that people who think theyre very accepting and progressive..start to treat minorities like children..which is the most racist thing in the country right now bc its the accepted way of thinking if you're a liberal white person

She wrote a book titled “Post Traumatic Slavery Disorder” and has many lectures on the subject on TH-cam. I think her work speaks directly to the issues you are targeting here both illuminating the problems and offering a genuine pathway to real solutions. Enjoy and best of luck!
