This specific example is probably not hearsay because no one is disputing that Depp had an injury to his hand and the only thing the witness said was that the doctor said Depp had an injury on his hand. He didn't speculate as to what caused the injury.

@@alanhersch4617 one of her other lawyers did make a pretty big blunder as she was questioning a phycologists and one of her questions was about if its true that abusers will sometimes falsely accuse their partner of abuse(not a lawyer but my guess is she was trying to discredit Depp's accusation) and the phycologists(psychiatrist? wasn't sure) answered yes but its usually when its a female abuser against a man(which obviously does the exact opposite of what her lawyer would want) and also kept asking is it correct questions when reading the report and often she would respond no it isnt correct) as for that lawyer he did ask Depp the same question repeatedly(the question was answered not a lawyer but my guess is it was trying to make Depp angry so they could use that as evidence of sorts but it failed and might have just irritated the jury(assuming there is one as I havent really paid that much attention just things like that)
The Reason it makes him look really bad is because he's been objecting to everything Depp has said that it became habit. It's a foolish move for this lawyer because Depp is very charismatic and the more you try to gag him the more the jury will despise u. They needed a different strategy for this particular person.
I was doing a mock trial and the opposing team objected to their own lawyer 😂
The lawyer in this case reminds me of the guy Charles Manson hired to defend him - whose strategy was basically to object to everything and anything and just try to stall as much as possible...I guess until the jury got bored or something.
I think maybe at least part of the strategy was to object to things JD said as a witness in an attempt to make him angry to get him to have an outburst in court. It’s not a nice move on a human level but professionally it makes sense. If it had worked things would have looked much worse for JD since he’s essentially trying to prove that he’s not prone to violent outbursts.
@@tovekauppi1616 Yeah they definitely seem to be trying to rile JD up by constantly interrupting his answers and shaming him with empty evidence. It's not working, tho. They got nothin'.
If you don't object to something in court at the time, you can't try an appeal on that matter at a later date. They're carpet-bombing objections so they have more ground for an appeal should the verdict go against them. That's lawyering, but to most other people it's a scummy tactic that may mean appeals and counter-appeals could take years. The attorneys don't care, they just get retained for longer.
@@FunkyFyreMunky Not at all an expert on this, but pretty sure most would pick and choose what to object on. Sometimes not objecting can actually benefit the cause I think.
@@kunilsen2519 yeah, especially in a jury trial, it's bad strategy to object constantly. It pisses off the jury.
Really, in a case this deposition and discovery intensive, you should have a general idea of all of the evidence that's going to come out ahead of time. Every witness has already been interviewed at length, reports and exhibits have been exchanged, etc. So you should already know what your possible appealable issues are and what objections you truly want to make. Objecting just for the sake of it is amateur lawyering and just annoys the jury.

Heard's lawyer is playing some VERY fast and loose games with courtroom procedural rules(at one point reading off a list of headlines demonizing Depp, leaving out the fact that Heard's friend had written all of those headlines), heard's team has been posting letters on vehicles in the area around the courthouse, Heard has been wearing, at one point, a uniform that resembled a US Navy uniform, and Depp's lawyer appears to be asleep. Seriously, the guy should be objecting to ALL of this, and is just... not. At all.
I'd argue that Johnny Depps lawyer is actually brillant in letting Amber Heards Team talk so much, because it shows how little they have to say. Even if it would be possible and legally crrect to object to some of their questions, it is better to just let them roll with it. So far they've done nothing but look ridiculous and desperate.
They have zeroed in on JDs substance abuse and his toxicity towards his Ex. Which he blatantly admits to, completely disarming their claims. Yeah he's a drunk who stranded in a failed toxic relationship which brought out a lot of ugliness on both sides. But so what? The only relevant question is, if he physically abused her and her lawyers seem unable to even argue that he has. If I were his attorney I'd also let them hammer home those misguided arguments. While they're busy doing this, they are too occupied to focus on any form of domestic violence which is the actual point of the case.
At first I wondered why Depp’s lawyers were letting so many valid objections go, but then I realized hers were doing their job for them.
I also thought it was particularly manipulative bordering on unethical that when they were doing cross examination with JD, within a cluster of questions about the Boston flight goings-on, they play an audio recording of him in some kind of state while on a plane, (I think after he continuously denied being very drunk for the Boston flight) which I and I’m sure many others then thought was from that flight.
Thankfully JD interjected and said that the recording was from some other time. But to me that seemed reeeeeally slimy. And they try to brush over him saying that with “that wasn’t what I asked” or something.
It feels like he's making every wrong move in the ace attorney tutorial
I like how you couched your reaction in empathy.
There's so much Hearsay's I'm going to remember this trial alternatively as the Hearsay Case
Amber hearsay
Amber Heardsay Turdsay
Reminds me of a tennis match with Depp clearly, very clearly and yes clearly winning. Sheen said it well ‘winning!’
I liked my own uh like
JD's lawyer baited him with his own Medicine and he actually took the bait XD
There is also the bit he walked into when he said Johnny interfered with her career. Brutal response.
The worst, though, was probably the 15 minutes of fame bit with the TMZ guy.
Yeah it is annoying how people are letting their (totally justified) hatred of Amber Heard carry over onto her defense lawyer. Lawyer's gotta take their client's side even if it makes them look like a tool. It's part of the job.
Watch the same people brush over any mistake that Depp's lawyer makes when Heard is on the stand. A legal case playing out on a social media gallery is just ridiculous.
@Kermit with an AK legal eagle literally just told you it's not like that. Stop thinking you understand law.
Yeah, her lawyers aren't bad, they just don't have much to work with.
@@Imbalanxd oh man a lawyer said it, must be true, lawyers are paragons of integrity.
if you chose to be her defense, you're lawyering wrong.
There's 2 people who threatened me and women and stole stuff from me and messed my stuff up !then some other people shared naked pictures of me out on computer,s without my consent! They are discriminated against me
Can't wait for a full video on the trial!
Judge: “15 minute recess.”
Lawyer: “objection.”
"look at ma lawyer dawg im goin to jaillll 😭😭😭😭😭"
I love that judge. She was so great. She sounded so confused there, “but you asked the question. “
"Objection Hearsay"
*Judge tapes his mouth shut*
They Larry Flynted him?!? That judge must've been *so* done with that guy. 🤣
Amazing tie here Sir! 🫡
Thank you for explaining! I’ve been looking for someone to explain this part 😄
I sometimes wonder aliens will come look at our rule systems & just lock us in a barrier like in south park & leave.
This shows how he's just prepared to object to literally everything someone on the stand says... is he even listening to them? Lmao
Did you even watch the clip?
@@rebotsomat yes? he did. Why are you even asking him this?
@@turtlelord8021because he just said somethin wrong. he could have ruled it for hearsay, but he made a blunder.
"A man of such abject stupidity..."
"Objection!"
"Overruled"
"A man of such abject stupidity he's objecting to his own defence"
I understood that reference!
Red dwarf is awesome
When I’m answering my mom “Objection Hearsay”
Hi LegalEagle! Really love your videos! In the future, could you do a video on objections in both criminal and civil law cases? I think it could be a really cool interactive video where viewers could pause a video of a court case and guess the objection before, and then you explain the particular objection further.
I’ve been looking forward to your reactions to this trial, DJ! It’s been a real sh*tshow.
Same, same.
And it continues to be. The cross examination by the female AH lawyer of the psychologist was just chef's kiss.
@@boooster101 I recall that, can confirm
@@boooster101 do you recall?
@@boooster101 But what about the muffins?
You’re being too nice to the Wish lawyers.
☠😄 @ wish lawyers
This is an equivalent of a dog ringing the bell and barking right after!😂😂😂
This is just a classic case of attempting a character assassination. He's trying to make the witness's testimony untrustworthy by asking ambiguous questions, and objecting to the answer, which can trick the jury into believing the witness testimony is flawed and irrelevant, or just straight up lies.
He asked a question on cross when he didn't know or anticipate the answer. Tsk tsk.
I had a funny moment like that recently - when the Plaintiff's attorney asked for a directed verdict against his own client after they rested.
After a few abusive relationships, I really feel for Johnny Depp. When he was talking about how she threatened to call the cops on him and make him the bad guy, I cried. My ex refused to move out of my house and threatened to call the cops on me if I didn't continue to let her stay there rent free. I despise cohabitation. She moved in without asking me. I'm a big dude. I out weighed her by at least a hundred pounds, but when it comes to fighting women, i'm an absolute kitten. I can soak a lot of physical damage, but the emotional damage, that really hurts. Being accused of abuse by your abuser, it's one of the worst things I've ever felt. It makes you helpless and scared. Just like an abusive partner wants you to be.
Thank you for sharing your story. No one should have to experience that and I’m glad she’s your ex.
When AHs lawyer claimed “she couldn’t have abused JD, she’s half his size!” I was so angry I actually said (out loud to an empty room) “oh f-ck you lady.”
I really really hope this trial marks a turn in the tide when it comes to supporting and believing male victims of female abusers and taking their experiences seriously.
Wishing you healing moving forward.
@@Feverm00n She went on to stalk me and I'm still terrified of her.
@@rayceeya8659 Your story reminded me of this picture of AH and JD on the red carpet together, where she's pulling him by his arm with a big sly grin like she's saying "Look what I brought!!!!!" and expecting people to start jumping in swimming pools with laptops out of excitement, although in her head they'd lose their minds over Her and not him. He looked scared to death and she obviously didn't care. I hope your ex doesn't stalk you anymore.
Johnny: Breathes.
Heards Lawyer: Objection. Hearsay.
For some reason I'm not getting recommended your videos anymore. I have been quite curious as to what you would have to say about the trial. Thank you for posting this short because yeah I've been meaning to search your channel again not just because I love your analysis of legal accuracy of movies and shows, but I also love when you talk about real life stuff too
