Thanks for watching We were thinking the same - that the sizing / process is easy when you know , but this may be useful for those who don’t know (yet)
Thank you for the simple and clear video. I recently got a chain, sprockets, tensioner idlers and grips for my Brompton from you and I have to compliment your excellent and speedy service. Thank you Brilliant Bikes!
Great store and amazing service. I ordered parts and they arrived next day! They were competitively priced and the invoice had a smiley ice cream in green felt tip pen. What's not to like about that!
might I dare suggest an accessory for filming? - a light you can get simple LED oneson amazon, the bigger the better! but even a small one will help on the close ups. I don't mean this harshly your videos are really informative but a light will give a real lift to enable the viewer to see more clearly. Keep up the good work. (happy new year!)
Just had the chain replaced on my Brompton. It felt like the bottom bracket was going clunky when infact it was the chain having worn. Replaced the rear sprockets too. Quite a difference in performance! You don't always realise how much extra friction gunk on the chain makes. I always lubricated my chain but never cleaned it enough. Since learned that lubricating a dirty chain is as much use as not lubricating it at all as you're creating grinding paste for your drivetrain. Oh - I LOVE those tyres!! Are they slightly wider than the Marathons? Might be the tanwall appearance, they look so good.
A quick feedback from my personal experience: In the event that you use a 50t front-14t rear combination, a 98L chain turns out to be short/too tight pushing the plastic/nylon tensioner pulley arm to its limit and thus not setup correctly. The correct chain length that provided smooth operation is 100L. I found this when I replaced the original 13t sprocket with a 14t ( 13t was not in stock at the time). I was saddened as the the new pre-cut 98t PC850 chain had to be binned and a new PC1 snaplock chain brought in and cut to 100L.
Assuming it has the standard 50 tooth front chain ring you will need a 100 link chain, link as follows: brilliantbikes.co.uk/brompton-chains/184-brompton-chain-100.html Thanks for watching and for the question!
Presumably for an older Brompton (mine's a hand-me-down, and seems to have ~1/8-inch spacing between the inner plates of the chain) I'd need either to find a 1/8 chain or replace the sprocket, chainwheel, and tensioner (because of the jockey wheels)?
@@brilliantbikes I am new to Brompton and commuting by bike. Your videos are really helpful to keep my bike in perfect condition. The online shop is great too!
nice vid .I moved down gear from 50T/13T/98 link to 50T/15T and put two extra links in making it 100 link seems fine I am thinking of fitting a double chainwheel as that blooming hill from valley bottom to hill top seems to get steeper as I age. Come on Brompton make a kit that does that there is plenty of room in the chain tensioner to allow it
Thanks for watching 100 links is correct :-) You can get a bigger reduction to make it easier for hills moving to a 44T chainring - then you can climb anywhere :-)
I recently changed from a second-hand M3R to a nickel superlight S2L but I find it a little too slow. I'm thinking of modifying the small rear sprocket to 11T and the chainring to 58T. Do you think this is feasible and/or safe? would it require a different chain? I'd want to avoid upgrading to a 6-speed because I'd like to keep the weight down and the simplicity up ;) Thanks so much for the entertaining and educational videos!
Thanks for watching The change would / should definitely be possible - though we haven't tried it If you do - please let us know how you get on and what parts you used for the change
Sorry for this but quite a few of the videos can be more viewer friendly. For demonstrating a chain change, you could choose the silver version of the crank, corset, derailleur which the Brompton 2022 model has. The camera work is dodgy too.
Thanks for watching You are absolutely correct - but she deviated from the script as she thought it was like magic, compared to trying to use a link rivet (which always seemed to end up with a stiff link!)
Similar to countertony, my Brompton is old mid 90s so has the 1/8 chain. Brilliantbikes where can we buy the 1/8 chain or do we need to change the rear sprocket and the chain ring (which is also permanently attached to the arm)
C'est clair et précis....mais surtout très sympathique. J'adore vos bloopers, c'est comme si vous nous parliez en tant qu'ami.
Clear video. Simple humour and very efficient bike shop

Thank you, you just saved me a lot of time and possibly a trip to the bike shop. It took me five minutes. So satisfying for a mechaniphobe.
No fussing about and very clear instructions - Thank you!
Many thanks for watching, so glad it was clear
I recently changed my chain also. It’s an easy process but takes a tiny learning curve. Thanks for the video.

what chain length is suitable for brompton c line 2023 6speed? thanks

Can I use old chain or do I have to change the chain?
Thank you :-)

Is it normal to the magic link goes a lit bit loose after removing it many times?
Thanks for watching
Normally they don’t get used too often
Are you removing the chain to clean? / some other reason - like changing the gearing?
@@brilliantbikes some power link are one usage only.
Hello, I would to check if the chain count includes the magic link? Like for 54T is 102 inclusive of the magic link?
How do you keep those finger nails intact while repairing bicycles? 🙂
Lol! Gloves and scrubbing!

Which Parktool stand are you using in this video?
It’s a Park Tools, PCS-9.2, I think they are up to version 10.3 now. Thanks for the question and for watching

I am a bit confused, I am going to replace 44t chainring by 39t on my Brompton B75, do I need to buy a new chain? thanks a lot
Could you tell me what bike stand you are using ? Thanks
Is that a black edition with black lacquer? Pretty...... ;-)
What an incredibly beautiful woman

@@brilliantbikes was suggesting as someone seeing your videos. Your sarcasm can rest in peace.
Why do you call it a "Magic Link?" It's simply a Power Link.
