    I have also done torn designs with freezer paper. The rough edge gives a interesting effect. I've also done this with dye in a spray bottle, activating it with soda ash in a spray bottle.

      you are welcome.... my main goal with these videos is to help more people have success with their art..... I think we are all artists, but sometimes you have to get past the first few tries to really enjoy something.... so these videos are meant to give people success in the early stages so they will continue to explore ..... or to just activate the right side of the brains out there and fire up creativity in so many other ways.

    For your re-usable plastic stencils, you can lightly brush the back side with rubber cement or spray with spray adhesive or photo mount. Let that glue dry until it's just tacky. Then press it down onto your shirt and it won't slide around while you are painting, but it does peel off easily and doesn't leave any glue on the shirt.

      I tried this using a Mylar stencil with lots of cuts outs. It was a skull. I used a bleach pen but it still came out like a blob. Should I have glued all the edges down as recommended by this other viewer or is Mylar not thick enough to act as a resist?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dianaj1524 I have not used mylar as a stencil, but it is pretty thin..... I like the freezer paper as it create seal so to speak when you iron it.... but I spray lightly with the bleach so there is not enough liquid to spread much.... but when I did the clover design using the plastic stencil, I use the toilet bowl cleaner which is thick and then I sponged it on so I could control how much was on the tee .....

    U did mention that we can use my hydrogen peroxide. Mine is a powder form... Can I use it

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes I did and I would imagine you can use it the same as liquid as it is the chemical reaction of it stopping the bleach .... I use one cup to one gallon I think, although I do say in the video how much, and this is the 3% solution, so you should be able to figure out an amount to use
      BUT, now I most have been using OUT White Brite or Rit Color Remover as they both remove the color better from cotton tees and they do not need to be neutralized, here is my black tee playlist just in case you need it for those other videos : th-cam.com/play/PLMEtBqB2BzuobKZarvDxELVgQCO25elQr.html

    I'm loving this series; thanks for sharing some tricks of the trade so the "average person" can achieve these designs. 😊
    Couple of questions:
    1)Would the freezer paper stencil work with regular tie dye as a resist? Or would the dye seep under since it has to sit for so long?
    2) do you have an online store where your finished tee's can be purchased?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wonderful..... that is my goal, help more people have success with art from the start .... I believe in some way, everyone is an artist of some type .... I will continue to share what I know and soon will be doing some exploring type videos where I will be trying out new stuff as well ......
      I have used the freezer paper with dye, but the dye has to be applied lightly..... I will be doing a video, but I can give a quick explanation of how I do it in case you wanted to dive it ...... first method is to put your stencil on and lightly spray dye on with a mister type bottle like I did with the bleach..... OR, you can thicken the dye and apply with a brush or sponge like I did with the toilet bowl cleaner ...... I did a project in a school where we did clovers on tees and the kids had a blast dye painting their own clover tees.... have fun and let me know if you have more questions

    Quick question: With the freezer paper stencil, does it matter which side you iron on to the shirt?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you are welcome and yes, I ironed mine to the outside... I spray it very lightly with bleach, so it may not penetrate all the way through the tee .... if you spray too much bleach, it can seep under the freezer paper

    Hi Carl!
    Firstly, thank you for all of the time you take to share your gift with us! I have gleaned a LOT of info from you on this and I'm still a work in progress but things are coming along nicely so thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!
    I have briefly seen this process before but hadn't tried it since I have always had Dharma dye AND a place to do it. Currently I have no place where I can do the actual dying. It's almost as if Universe is steering me in this direction so I'll just go with the flow! LOL
    I have two questions for you on this.
    1. How many shirts would you say you could safely dunk in the "stop bleach action" mixture before you changed it out?
    2. With the black shirts, it goes through the dilution process and it gets a progressively lighter shade of "orange". My question is, will different colored shirts go through that color scheme as well or would it just get a lighter shade of whatever color the shirt is to start with? It seems as if it would be the latter but figured you would know due to your experimentation. :-)
    You rock bro and keep doin' what you do! You make it look so easy and you inspire me to continually be patient and "up my game"!

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you... I love what I do and felt called to share my knowledge with the World ... I see it as a way to help people open to their creative nature whether they do tie-dye or some other form of art ...
      As for the bleach stop.... I have not tested how many tees I can put through it... I lean on the side of caution and will do up to 4 tees in one pail of the bleach stop
      .... and for the color shift... I have found that it all depends on what type of dyes were used in the original dyeing process, I came across an off brand of tees once by 'accident' that bleached out to white pretty quickly.... but since then, I have had various shades of the orangy brown to a lite tan .... I have also tried with blue, green and other colors of tees with varying results .... most of the blue tees I did went to a lite pink shade as did the some of the purple tees ...... so it seems to be a gamble that will not be known until you put the bleach on .....
      I will be exploring more with other products as well and will make some more videos as I do..... there is a color remover from Dharma I like and I will be trying Rit color remover as well... so stay tuned for more videos on discharging

    I used the stencil, but the bleach seeped under/through the paper, ruining my design. Did I oversaturate it? How do you balance between getting enough bleach on without it getting under the paper? (I did iron it on).

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just lightly spray it because liquid will want to spread through the fabric .... if you want to use more bleach than just a lite spray, then I suggest using the toilet bowl cleaner with bleach as it is a bit thicker and will not spread as fast or as far

    • @kwelchans
      @kwelchans 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for this demo. Love the idea of bleach dye and seems an easier way to get started. Can the Bleach stop be used over like wwe can do with the Soda Ash solution? Also do you need to wash out the shirt before you bleach (or even dye) them? Thanks!

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are welcome .... as for the bleach stop, I do not think so, but I do not know for sure.... I just use it once to be on the safe side.... and I did not do a pre wash before bleaching.... and for any tees I buy in the store, I do a pre wash on them, but the ones I buy wholesale I do not..... I had been dyeing them for many years before I heard about pre washing .... but I do make sure that each tee is fully soaked with soda ash before I dye it... I will do a video at some point soon to show how I check mine

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Cheers! ... I just use regular bleach and dilute it 50/50 with water and I usually pull the stencil off after I am done spraying the bleach, ... but if there is some bleach on the stencil, make sure to wipe it off before you peel as it may drip a drop of bleach in a spot you do not want ... have fun and make sure to have your bleach stop ready before you do the beaching

    Hey man I tried it out several times but by edges always bleed out. I padded it dry shortly after spraying the bleach on, ironed the stencil on as good as I can but still the edges never come out as crisp as yours. Any ideas why the always bleed out or any tips how to fix it? Thank you in advance :)

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that... I spray just a very fine mist of the bleach... if it gets to wet, then the liquid will start to spread through the fabric ... also, the tee is bone dry when I iron the wax paper on and spray the bleach mix

    Have you done a discharge dye spine pattern just on the back of a shirt? If so does it work or do I have to accordion fold front and back together. I hope this makes sense.

      yes I have, I did this with Decolourant instead of bleach and then added color back in, there is a heart on the front, you can click back in the album to see the front ...... facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10222578835439915&set=a.10222290063980809&type=3&theater
      but I separate the front from the back by tucking one sleeve into the other, I call this centering the tee ..... th-cam.com/video/ayXftSPBITo/w-d-xo.html
      and this way you can put different design front and back ... and you can do this with bleach as well, but make sure to neutralize the bleach when you are done
      And I will demo the decolourant on my next Wednesdays with MrTieDye LIVE show in a couple days so make sure you are subscribed to get notified when I put up the link
