  • In this video I demonstrate how to Tie-Dye a Daisy on a tee.... I added a couple notes of what I would do different ..... I tied the petals up and then did the center circle..... but I remembered right after that I normally tied the center circle and then do the petals ... you will see the notes in the video... first time trying that.
    My channel is stocked full of How-To Tie-Dye videos, Tips and Tricks, tie-dye reveals and even a few fun moments from my life.
    And, it is going to get even more exciting as I just did couple LIVE videos and plan to do more of them. Some will be scheduled and some will be right now in the moment videos, plus I have a couple fun series in mind so be sure to subscribe and hit the notification bell so you know when a new video is up OR when I am LIVE if you need to ask a question. Thank you, sit back and watch me color the World with Rainbows.

      How do you do the thick water

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I start by making the really thick water, here is a video ...... th-cam.com/video/imaTXWdNJTo/w-d-xo.html ..... I always have a jug of it on hand, then I will put about 2-3 oz in a 16oz bottle and fill the rest with plain water and then shake .... this adds just a bit of thickness to help hold space

    Thank you for the resist pointer! Now if I could only make my darker yellow into a peach color….. I don’t have peach😬

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are welcome... as for Peach ... I would add a little bit of orange to your yellow to get a peachy color... maybe a little bit of pink also ... when I am doing 'color mixing' I start with small bottles so I can get an idea of the colors I need before I make a larger batch of color ... here is a video where I do a color mixing demo : th-cam.com/video/2eyTZLedDfM/w-d-xo.html

      no I don't ..... the soda ash that I soak the tees in before hand is what causes the dye to bond with the cotton fibers, and the amount of time it sets up.... I like to leave mine for 48 hours when I have the time, but a minimum of 24 hours

    Mr. Tie Dye, could you do an awareness ribbon in the center? Specifically teal and purple for suicide prevention/awareness. We just lost my nephew, a US Army veteran to suicide. I want to make t-shirts for my sister and me, I just cant figure out a good way to get the ribbon shape.

    Love this design! I'm going to try this with my Girl Scout Daisies. I'm planning to tie them all up in advance. When would you soak them in soda ask and tie them up, if you were me? Is 24 hours too long? Or would you do them the morning of? Dying fun starts at 4pm, with our first socially-distanced group.

    What is thickened water? Where do I buy it or can it be made at home?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to make my own thick water using Sodium Alginate .... here are two methods for two products, this one from dharma : th-cam.com/video/imaTXWdNJTo/w-d-xo.html
      and this one from Amazon : th-cam.com/video/0s-7cOvM6tU/w-d-xo.html
      But now I use Superclear, it is a premixed thick liquid from dharma, it is not as thick as the sodium alginate, but it works in a pinch : www.dharmatrading.com/chemicals/superclear.html
      I have heard of dyers using other things, I guess some elderly people have trouble sometimes with liquid so they make a thick water for them to drink.... I do not remember what it is called, but I have heard more than one dyer mention using it

    How do you keep your marker that you are drawing your outlines with to not run? Every time I use a washable marker on a shirt, regardless of design, it bleeds and runs creating an extremely thick line. Any ideas or tips?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      my tees are barely damp when I draw on them with the washable markers ... I soak he tees in soda, then spin them out in the washer to remove most of the liquid... then you can draw without the lines running

    How do you do the thickened water? What do you add to it?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used a few products to thicken my dyes, sodium alginate from dharma : th-cam.com/video/imaTXWdNJTo/w-d-xo.html
      sodium alginate from Amazon : th-cam.com/video/0s-7cOvM6tU/w-d-xo.html
      and most recently I have started to play with Super Clear from Dharma, but I have not made a video yet.
      it is a little tricky working with these... I find it best to make up my thick water and let it cool over night and then I test the consistency of it, if it is to thick, then I will add some plain water and blend it... when I get the consistency how I like it, then I will add dye powder and blend it up to make the thick black dye
      I hope this helps, have fun

    How could I add more pedals? Or can i?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  ปีที่แล้ว

      you can add more petals by doing more initial folds... I folded this in third's and folded a petal on each side, so I got 6, but if you fold this in forth's and fold two petals, then you will get 8 petals
      So here is a video for the Star Flower Variations where I show how to get a different number of petals on it as well as a couple other variations.... but I cued this video up to the 8 petal fold : th-cam.com/video/H7qvx7v86oU/w-d-xo.html
      so you will do the initial folds the same way, once you have the long triangle shape, then you will draw your petals on and fold them like you would in the Daisy Video

    So awesome! What is the difference between kite string and sinew? Which do you recommend?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thank you .... kite string is used for just tying something up ..... the sinew it used to tie something very tightly, so I use it for mandalas and for anything I want a white line around as when you pull it tight enough, it does not let dye into that area of the tee ..... and I plan to do a video just on kite string, sinew and rubber bands and what to use when and why

    • @MrTieDye

    Curious... doing the math visual in my head but if I folded into 5ths would that give me 10 petals?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes it will .... you can use the 5 point star video to do your initial folds ( I did the math already ) .... th-cam.com/video/xOiP-6BwyOQ/w-d-xo.html .... once you have the airplane folds done, then you can draw on the petal shapes like in the daisy video and that will give you 10 petals ..... but it is going to be a more difficult fold due to the extra layers of fabric so just take you time while folding and while applying your dye

    • @SaneAsLuna
      @SaneAsLuna 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    what is thickened water? thanks!

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I add sodium alginate, salt and urea to thicken the water so it does not spread as fast.... I also use it to 'hold' space if I want to leave white on a design
      I learned this from another dyer, here is how I make it .... studio.th-cam.com/users/videoimaTXWdNJTo/edit?Fdashboard
      and then adding dye to it will make thick dye
