Very thorough explanation, without wasteful chatter. THANKS! It was impressive how MGM showed how to diagnose & carefully lift off the long trim piece. The non-mechanic me thought these trim pieces were glued on. Important to keep trim pieces out of hot sun(?) etc during project, to keep from warping. 2 applications of Rust Converter would add a hour to this project. Loctite brand has this converter for $10.
Water was leaking into the trunk of my 2000 Honda Civic hatchback from cracks at the rear ends of the weather strip channels. After thoroughly cleaning and inspecting the channels, I used several coats of Flex Seal Clear Mini Aerosol Rubber Sealant over a period of three days, letting it cure between coats. I sprayed everything in the channel that even looked like a crack. The patches were tested by pouring water into the channels. No more leaks. I chose this product because I didn't need a lot of it and it's clear, thin and easy to apply.
awesome video. Ive been chasing a trunk leak for months and this is my last resort. I did find a crack on the rear on both sides under there so this may solve the issue. appreciate the posting
I've a roof leaking issue in my Toyota Matrix. I was told I'd have to take it to auto glass shop to remove and reseal windshield. Any idea how can I check where exactly it is leaking, on a side rail, or under the windshield seal? Thanks.
I’ve got the same problem with my matrix. It pores in on me when I drive from the junction of the side panel and roof cloth. I’m guessing this is my problem also, rust under the weather seal
Should use a rust converter after sanding and cleaning, then you can apply flex seal. Leave each process more time than they say.,I would give at least 4 hours between different applications. Nice job though..........
Thanks for the advice, I never thought about it that way. I'll try that method next time. I actually have a Dremel 100i but I use it to cut things and the Rust Converter is new to me.
@@Mgm_Designs I bought an 89 Econoline, windshield leak was so bad, took out the floor, so I cut panels to replace the front, and converted the rust in the rear before covering it with fiberglass. You can use naval jelly to convert rust, or rustoleum makes some spray that covers it, I've seen some people use the stuff called POR, really expensive tho, but goes on pretty heavy and dries hard. Gotta do what you can to keep em on the road.
@@runescapefreak99999 Sure, the reason to add primer and paint is to seal off the repair from the outside elements and make the surrounding area blend in with it visually.
Oh yeah, 2 part seam sealer, boy is it thin from the factory, older cars had a bed of the stuff that went around that was 1/8th inch deep in a channel. I was thinking about pouring the flex seal in my old van gutter before it got totalled.
@@Mgm_Designs the metal is much thinner, my 73 had a surface rust covered dent in the rear corner when I bought it, 10+ years later it's still there, has yet to make a hole, in fact I could hand sand the rust off if I felt like it. They want cars disposable, they don't want us driving them 20 to 30 years or more. Always hear how technology is improving and things are getting better, had my van not been totalled, I'd still be driving it, was built in 1972, took a Jeep hitting it head on to take it away from me, had it been fully covered with insurance, not liability, it would have been put in a shop and repaired, I just couldn't afford to replace the front clip.

No leaks after POURING water into the channels and after a little rain it still leaks. To be continued...🙄

You're welcome, I would advise using rust converter before applying the FlexSeal but if no rust is in the area then it should be ok.

You needed to use Rust Converter after sanding a bit then wait, then paint. As for the actual sealant Flex Seal it has Acetic acid and will corrode.

Yes, its been over a year and I haven't had any leaks at all.

thats a lot of taping. could save some tape and use a bag in combination with tape. id use RTV or some good silcone caulk instead
