Along the same lines, I recently had a Moen shower valve that wouldn't let any hot water through. I pulled off the little clip, but the cylinder was so stuck I couldn't pull it out. I ended up calling a plumber, who had a special tool to extract stuck cylinders. Looks like your pry tool did the trick for you.
Moen products come with a lifetime warranty so if you are the original purchaser of the faucet you can just call Moen and they will send you a replacement cartridge for free. Beats the heck out of paying ~$20 each to replace! I have very hard water in my area and it eats up a cartridge in 8 to 10 years. Moen has probably sent me 15 free cartridges since I built my house 25 yrs ago.

I was surprised at how hard it was to get out, I had to double check to make sure I hadn't missed anything!
