Now this will conquer everything it faces! This is the one of the best builds I’ve ever seen! Top notch quality! Everything is thought out and built to last out in the wilderness! Simple and clean! 👍👍👍
Look forward to following your channel. I'm about to embark on my own custom camper for my Tacoma. Just coming up on 6 years on the road full-time, can't beat this life! ~ Brian
Walt excellent job, much applause on the work you guys do. I caught your post on IG, had to see your walk around. Thoughts and prayers you, your family and staff stay save during this unique time we're all in.
This is a work of art! Well done!! Probably the best concept and execution yet! I'd really excited to see the finished iteration with the shower, toilet, fridge, etc. Really amazing!!
Do you think scaled down version of this mega beast, with a pop up, and those great appointments like hot shower, toilet, heater, etc could be shoehorned into a Tacoma?
I think the most underrated overland mod is front bench seat conversion to a futon like they make for a lot of vans and rv’s. I doubt it would be that hard to make it fit nicely with some modified rear seat. I’m gonna take a crack at it in my truck with the van futons available/ modifying the rear and foot well for extra bed surface area and comfort
Dream overland build! Great work! It’s almost exactly what I’d get if I had the money. Can’t wait to see more of your builds! Please make a video of this truck when finished!
You guys do outstanding work on all the Tundras on here. Everything's done with a purpose and function. Hope to do some work on mine with you in the near future! God bless and stay safe everyone.
Did you just have a shop paint the chrome grill surround? I just picked up a 2020 cement Tundra and I want to enact the no chrome policy too. Thanks in advance.@@TAVLLC
That is an amazing rig, job well done. Nice lighting setup as well. The front racing fenders look awesome. Maybe it is the lighting or camera angles, but the fitment is off, they don't seem to line with the bumper, something looks off level, plus the grill doesn't seem to line up well with the front fenders either, almost like the grille or the fenders were out of alignment. The is not a consistent gap where they meet the doors either. Otherwise love the bumper, winch, lighting package and the entire setup. I hope it has served you well. Subscribed!
What a beautiful build, great work. This strikes a balance between off-road ability, size, comfort and importantly weight. There's always sacrifices to be made and there's no one perfect setup. Slide in campers are too heavy, mounted by simple turn-buckles and just aren't built for off-road abuse. Some of the other cabover wedge campers are nice but don't offer the same spaciousness as a tray unit. I think something like this is a perfect for days to weeks in the backcountry. I probably wouldn't want to live in it full time though, for that I think a van would be a better choice.
Not to say that the Tundra isn’t awesome. It’s a beautiful beast. This virus put a damper on our visit to Toyota of ‘burque to get a TRD4Runner. Hopefully we can get a deal before the end of the year and drop it off with you guys. I just saw it in the background and I was like, “SQUIRREL!”
So impressed with how clean the suspension is... best setup I have seen so far. Would love to see some field video and report. Curious how much travel that is providing and how it rides.
Looks sweet. So no one learns the hard way (the way GFC just did), the antenna is slightly higher on 2020 Tundras which causes camper over cab clearance issues...
Beautiful rig!! Question for you sir, would I be able to set my 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 like this as far as suspension and bumpers? I see a lot of Tundras decked out for off road, but I have yet to see a Chevy or GMC done to this caliber.
Amazing build with great attention to detail!! For fitting the bikes in would you have to take wheels/ pedals off? Or just load them in and off you go? Thanks
Did This truck have a 38gal tank and replaced it with a LRA 46 gallon? Was there any removing of frame braces? Or was it a simple as dropping the 38gal and replacing the 46 gal with accessories?
Very cool build. I'm curious, why do companies like yourself not do a built first gen Tundra like this? The only long travel first gen Tundras I see are desert racers. Any input would be appreciated!
Walt, how often do people start with new vehicles for base vs used vehicles? I have a '16 tacoma that i need to wirebrush but if i were putting what i assume this kind of money is. I think I'd want to start with something newer. Do you have dealership relationships? How much business do you do east of the Mississippi?
@@TAVLLC 35 or 37 on this build? Just did a BDS fox coilovers with DSC and dakar springs in the rear. Suspension change with stock tires , before increasing to 35 inch ridge grappler, went from 16.7 to 6.7 on the dash read out. With these tires its definitely not as snappy. Wish your shop was closer to me.
$37K seems a little steep for the camper. I was thinking closer to $25k. Are the sides, canvas, and roof insulated like the AT campers? Looking forward to the build.
@@TAVLLC Yeah, I checked the website. Still steep, regular flatbeds from CM, Moritz, etc. are under $4k for aluminum 8' dually beds with 40k lbs goose hitches. Tack "overland" on something and the price goes a little crazy..
act 2.5 why are you comparing an 8’ dually flat bed to an entire camper system that has to be imported from Germany? I also didn’t see “overland” tacked onto anything. This is simply another great option that is available and yes it is built similar to the A/T campers that we have been using for years. If this thing was junk you wouldn’t see it on one of these trucks.
@@TAVLLC I'm comparing flatbed prices, The 50ten tray for "full size" is $13,990. That's 5.25'x5.9'. An 8'x8' aluminum flatbed from Moritz is $3,150 and can haul a 40,000 lb gooseneck trailer. Even at $150 an hour shop rate, the 50ten bed wouldn't hit $5,000. That's where I came up with $25k for the whole setup. $18k normal price, plus $7k because it's meant for overlanders. I'm not saying it isn't a quality piece of gear, just that they are a bit steep on their price, just like everything meant for the "overland" crowd. Total Chaos, Marlin, Teraflex, Dynatrac, Currie, Atlas, Metalcloak, JCR, all have normal prices. Prices you can justify from an engineering/marketing standpoint.
@@act2.533 I think you are maybe missing the point or purpose to this flatbed. It is not a typical, universal flat bed like the ones from CM or Moritz, that are designed to be used as work horses or pull goose necks. The 50Ten is more of a dual purpose set up. It has all of the functionality of being able to use the camper as intended, but with the ability to easily remove it and us the flat bed for other purposes, of which you cant do with other campers that fit over a stock bed. It also houses the spare tire and has the extra storage. Plus, after using it as a flat bed, you lower the camper with its 4 pegs into the 4 peg holes in the flat bed and secure it quick and easily with its fastening devices. You cant do this with just a typical flat bed. The 50ten is basically providing the best of both worlds, which yes, could come at a little more cost. But dual purpose things are often that way. Its also incorporates Goose Gear plates designed for the 50Ten. Its very much apples to oranges in this case.
@@cucuy45 when you use beads that's great for rotational mass. You still have to use weights for side to side motion. Like if the rubber is not exactly uniform. Beads are great, just not the be all end all. Hope this makes sense. Cheers.
Love this setup, seriously....But I can't see ANY way you're not exceeding payload limits of around 1,600 lbs...The LRA tank and fuel alone eats up close to 20% of available payload....
Factory payload numbers go out the window with these builds. All of the spring rates, shock valving, gearing and so on are built to support in excess what the truck is carrying.

I think there is a recall on the sonar for that year tundra, I could be wrong but that could be the issue also.

We use the 1Up USA for the trailer hitch. But you could fit the bike in with the wheels still on if the camper was empty.
