Well, you pretty much have two possible options if you wash an adult cat. Either you get them used to bathing or have already done so as any good owner would when they're a kitten and let them hopefully learn that it's not scary or dangerous. Or you can go the other way and force them to comply and give them a bath as quickly as possible if you really need to. Most cats will just forget about it soon enough even if they're pissed for a little while and hopefully you will not need to wash your cat often. Usually you mainly wash outdoor cats or if they got nasty for some reason, like if they happened to get something all over themselves such as wet food or piss, should be pretty rare. I've bathed grown cats that hate being bathed because it's necessary and you can't wait for them to "Get used to it" if you haven't taught them already. Mainly about closing the door, any escape paths and preferably the door to the shower if possible and just get them in a steel grip and get it done with as fast as possible so they won't have to endure for long. The worst thing that can happen is that they won't want to go into the shower any time soon. That and some scratches if you don't hold it properly, especially if you're the type to not trim their nails so they're not sharpened.

I remember watching this video several years ago and it’s always stuck in my memory because of how you put emphasis on acclimating the kitten to the water and the bath. It’s a very kind thing to do rather than just shoving a creature into an unfamiliar situation that is likely to scare it. Thanks for sharing!

that happened with my Taid and my mum's first border-collie, who was called Yanto. He immediately saw Taid as the alpha - probably because he lead scout groups and went on long walks - and before you know it, Yanto was my Taid's right-hand companion up the Welsh mountains, from Cadair Idris to Snowdon. It’s called ‘scruffing’ guys, it’s not hurting the kitten. I foster kittens, and I have two cats myself. It ‘paralyzes’ them because that’s how queens move their kittens around, it calms them. Kittens do not have enough weight to be harmed by picking them up by the scruff, however it can cause a lot of harm to adult cats. It is okay to scruff adult cats as it has the same calming effect, but it is not okay to pick them up as they weigh too much for their scruff to support them. Hope this helps, I know he didn’t use the best language while attempting to describe scruffing.
All of this. My (adult) cat would calm down when scruffed, which always helped in situations where she was feeling anxious. What I never did was lift her like that, it's irrational to think it would be safe for a full grown cat. We have to think weight logistics. Think of it as how to some people touch helps ground them when having a panic attack.

It’s called clipnosis it tricks the cat or kitten into thinking their mother is picking them up so the just stay in the same position

I wholeheartedly agree with this way of doing things with pets in any situation, gradually introduce them, be slow and gentle and quiet. Not forcing anything or using the skin on the back of the neck for any kind of required position the cat may not cooperate in. This video was very helpful

that happened with my Taid and my mum's first border-collie, who was called Yanto. He immediately saw Taid as the alpha - probably because he lead scout groups and went on long walks - and before you know it, Yanto was my Taid's right-hand companion up the Welsh mountains, from Cadair Idris to Snowdon. Funnily enough though, he was a cat person before. He told me that the cat he had growing up waited for him on a wall as he came home from school, then hitched a ride back to house on his shoulder.

It’s called ‘scruffing’ guys, it’s not hurting the kitten. I foster kittens, and I have two cats myself. It ‘paralyzes’ them because that’s how queens move their kittens around, it calms them. Kittens do not have enough weight to be harmed by picking them up by the scruff, however it can cause a lot of harm to adult cats. It is okay to scruff adult cats as it has the same calming effect, but it is not okay to pick them up as they weigh too much for their scruff to support them. Hope this helps, I know he didn’t use the best language while attempting to describe scruffing.

All of this. My (adult) cat would calm down when scruffed, which always helped in situations where she was feeling anxious. What I never did was lift her like that, it's irrational to think it would be safe for a full grown cat. We have to think weight logistics. Think of it as how to some people touch helps ground them when having a panic attack.
