As much as I really do feel for you Scotty when you run into issues, I am glad that your style is to not hide it and to show the realism of what putting a car together is like. Keep at it mate!! Loving each step of it and keeping the fingers and toes crossed for you! Also, lol, you can't help yourself with that big shifter eh? haha, love each time you break that out for the haters lol. Never change mate.
Hey Scotty, Might I suggest a sign on the wall above the 2 shifters.....A Tool for Every Job ? :), Keep your chin up, Seeing and Hearing The Val' driving will be worth.
I'm I the only one that plays the carnage drinking game. You know you take a swig everytime scotty sighs or exhales loudly..... 10 mins in and I'm almost hammered. Still bloody happy to see a good old Aussie legend getting built for once
Your a great ambassador for telling the truth about how getting things done! It doesn't alway just fall into place like some TH-cam and tv shows would have you believe. I feel sorry that this is how it really is for your build though. Cheer up Scotty.... you can dooo iiiiit! Cheers from Sydney mate. 🇭🇲👍🇭🇲
Unfortunately your frustrations make good viewing for us 🤷♂️ This is good seeing all the things that can go wrong do go wrong . Makes you appreciate things more when it comes together and works out in the end 👍
Dads car is not letting go that easy.I’ve repaired cars and some of them fought right to the end. Don’t get too down there is light at the end of the tunnel Scotty.I feel your pain mate.Have a cleansing ale 🍺 or two 👍👍🇦🇺
We've all been there. Days and days of work to discover that something is out by 2mm and requires removing the entire drive train to fix, or that a part for a 1967 model was for the August 67 model, not the September 67 model "update" that the manufacturer never actually noted.
Been following the build from the start. Nearly there,, and Its looking good. It goes to show that you can get caught out by things no matter how experienced you are. Linkages for carbies, clutches, etc have to be the hardest to sort out nicely. I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and I actually draw up the location and design and make the links to get them to work well. As for things not fitting, just listen to Freiburger from Hot Rod. Keep at it, I know you'll get it going. Good work.
That is alot of money for a kickdown. I'm sure you will get it figured out. You know as well as I do, that's just hot rods. Love your show. Keep on keepin on!
Scotty, I don't demand videos on ant particular frequency. We are just happy to see the ute progress, at your own chosen speed. (Dylan reference). Do it at your own pace. Cheers
loving these video's scotty! im currently doing up a 360 CH chrysler by chrysler and im glad im not the only one running into problems doing everything twice.
I really now understand this situation fully I recently had done some brake work on my car after limping around with dodgy ones got that sorted popped a fuse driving replaced the fuse only to find out I needed a new key 🤯. Keep up the good work mate you'll sort it out thank you for the content
Oh man it’s difficult to enjoy watching your show when it doesn’t seem like you enjoy what you do. I feel your pain and I’ve been there with projects that go pear shaped. I hope you can find some enjoyment here as this is a great car with some great bits. Let’s bring this thing home together and enjoy some dyno-tastic numbers. 💪👍
G'day from West Australia, Scotty😉 Some day's a man just has to walk away from cable throw binding issues! Answers usually arrive after a good night's sleep. Fresh rested brain, fresh rested eye's, fresh rested revitalised imagination!!! You got this Scotty😉🙂👍👍
Scotty man heads up the old girls came a long way mate unfortunately these Lil fiddly bits take time mate but she's nearly there mate keep it up it be all worth it in the end 👍
It is fighting so hard because you care so much about getting it right and doing ya dad proud. No short cuts, no this'll do for now. We know you won't give up. It's called pride
Fell for ya Scotty I can here it in ya voice. Going though same thing with my xg ute shoved a au engine in her.fix one thing to get to the next problem.dont give up just take a deep breath.peace
Least ,as people mention, you show the time ,patience’s and money required to play with cars ,even when they appear reasonable simple .Some times old cars have just as many idiosyncrasies, including sourcing parts and the fabrication that’s also required ,the small stuff also seems to be were the tests lie ie cable and timing ect. This reenforces and with past unfinished projects in my youth ,that before I pick a project or an area I want to play with in cars ,I need be ready with the resources, time and fortitude to stick it out as long as I don’t scare my self from ever starting 🤔😅
Yeah I feel ya Scotty, that's the dreaded "V" factor I was tellin yer bout... they fight ya every step of the way. Just got to treat em like a mother-in-law & don't back down or give up.
Some vehicles just are like this when you are working on them. I’m the same with my build at the moment the little things add up and become expensive as and still not on the road yet. Great build series old school is the best

You're a patient guy Scotty , A lesser man would of attacked the car with a ball peen hammer by now ! lol
I need that 2 foot adjustable wrench it's a beauty!! Watching this makes me wish I still had my valiant ute with the 318 it spun the wheels in all 3 gears🤣
Scotty I feel for you mate ,had the same issue with the Holley sniper and kick down set up on my 360 stroker I just couldn’t get the adjustment right. Crappy throttle bracket that would flex and wasn’t getting full throttle then switched to a billet Lokar which did helped but it would shift early . The geometry was out due to everything is based around a chev . In the end It shitted me so I pulled the trans and ended up getting a fmvb from the US (turbo action )and some Hard parts to handle the extra hp & torque. The rest is history. Hang in there mate that’s hot rodding.
Had to butcher (customise) brackets for my chrysler throttle and lokar kickdown cable, with the holley carbs I run it doesn't bind up. Just needed some customisation, like all aftermarket shenanigans.. just another hill to climb, will get there soon! Love this build series, cheers.
The shifter cable appears to be a common push / pull cable. ( These are sometimes used for truck PTO engagement / to operate the dump truck bed. ) A truck equipment company might be able to make one as these are generally made to customer specs.
Its harder because you're running something non standard and the knowledge isn't as widespread. When we all drove cars like this you'd do a major repair in the driveway in a weekend. There was plenty of people who knew what you needed to do and parts were everywhere. Still, whilst 20 plus episodes are probably a bit draining for you we're all enjoying them! Bit of a death by a thousand small extra costs too. Bugger!
Keep up the good work Scotty i used one of them kick down cables on my Bronco when I put the C6 in i had to stuffed around makeing brackets i got there in the end the joys with Playing with cars 🔧🔧🔧🔧🔩🔩🔩🔩
What's a build without some problems along the way. Hopefully when it's done won't be any fails for a while. Just to be safe replace all the globes before it's first road test last thing you will need is a canary.
Shifter cable at transmission melts, the B&M one would melt due to header heat, I finally used a cut open heater hose then I used hose clamps to hold together and header wrap on the heater hose. And I can see things have not changed much since early 1990s doing that . i used Red high temp heater hose and the header wrap has thick fibers just keep going up the hose and use clamps
Thanks for another great video mate If it was easy everyone would be doing it. But there is a lot going on with those cables on the carby. Keep at it mate
I used the kickdown and throttle cable bracket from hemi performance on my 318 with edelbrock carb. Works great as the bracket bolts onto the carb itself.
im curious on your take on the dual spring cam break in? I am about to re cam my motor. I see most cam manufactures say remove inner spring but i've also seen people say use plenty of zinc and just break it in@@STREETMACHINETV

I really feel your pain, I'm also spending on parts, that aren't really contributing to fixing my issues, and having to wait..that shifter cable is a bummer, as looks a pretty sturdy bit of gear, that's annoying, you'll get there but it certainly does add up.
Oooohhhhhhhh, I remember doing that throttle bracket modification before. We used two 2 barrel brackets for that. Four barrel one's are completely different. Longer with a more pronounced rise at the cable clamp end. I just wish that we had lokar kick down cables available when we were doing those back in the day.
Don't give up mate, if you look at it with a clear head you will find a solution, you have the brains and the tools to figure it out, I hate aftermarket parts,it's never a bolt on item, don't let it bring you down it's dads Ute
I’ve built a variety of Mopar’s before. I have right now a big block Duster383. But working on a1973 Charger. I’me going down this road right now. You move from one bug, fix it , then on to the next one. It’s a drag.
That cable problem really sucks, sometimes you can expect things to go wrong and when they do you just say that happens, but a cable is a bitter pill to swallow, been there done that myself, and I was none the happier having to fork out for another B&M shifter cable. You would think they are more robust but they're not.
The worst thing is if you pull the dizzy out and it drags the hex drive with it and you haven't had a chance to see where it was set haha. Happened to me recently. Good times
Nah, it was fine when the old motor was pulled, I always cover them with fuel hose to keep the heat away. There's evidence of crushing which probably happened when we first put the engine and trans in and it was sitting up high and against the top of the tunnel.
Scotty is there any way to add an additional strap to triangulate the throttle bracket to reduce the deflection you can see in the video? Don't know how many times I ran into deflection problems it's a PITA on custom throttle brackets.
Yea, the Discovery shows and other TV car shows never show what a ballache modifying a car can be. Parts suppliers really don't seem to care too much if their part doesn't work with something else. They expect you to buy everything from them and even then no guarantee it'll work without modifications. This is why my project takes so long cos I build most stuff from scratch so it'll fit first time. For those cables couldn't you get them custom made? I had some handbrake cables custom made and was only $80 and they had the ends for doing not just handbrakes. Worth a shot maybe 👍
