Billy Gould's bass on this song is an ear orgasm

Yeah that was the beginning of Epic you stumbled into, that was the first FNM song you reacted to lol
King for a day is such a great song, isn't that bassline killer!!! Absolutely love Mike's vocals on this and obviously the lyrics have a lot of meaning, I totally feel everything he's emoting especially during the live performance, I'll take that over the album version any day 💗 Thank you for your reaction 💗

That last part when you saw a close up of Mike's face shows he was going through the emotions.

This whole album was something else. Especially when I first listened it back in '95. After this I bought Mr. Bungle's "Disco Volante" and I went insane.

I still have my King for a day tour shirt (with this cover on front) with special guest steel pole bath tub. Saw them twice in that tour..Ahh the memories.

I have read that when FNM toured this album in Australia they were joined by a didgeridoo at the end of this song. I have not been able to find but would have been amazing

This song is great, studio or live. The first time I caught this live video, I could barely breath by the end and, in this moment, relived a desperate moment in my own life. Whether staged or not, it was very moving and cathartic for me.

If I had to guess he like to get the material out fast and get on with it. This gives the opportunity to explore and expand on it later. Also explains the variation and dynamism involved when playing the song

Being a long time listener I have to admit that this song is not my favorite, although its quite grandiose in construction and meaning.... I never knew why - maybe its somehow pale & repetitive in compare to others like that mega-hit Midlife Crises, or because of its complex arrangement that hides a lack of real power to do...whatever... maybe some big FNM breakthrough, as its expected of them, dunno...However, if you look at the background, you wouldn`t wish they had a `real breakthrough` since it was an accident they were talking about, damn it.. :/ :D Jesus, you wouldn`t want that! :D But, hell...as I said.. whatever. Still, you have to give them credit for the rhythm section - that solid groove of drums and the bass, oh, with FNM is always about the bass! :)) Cheers! :)

it seems he like to outdo himself in the live performances. I feel her is constantly pushing to rvise or improve the studio version not just copy it. That explains why the live is almost always better .
