When I first started running I was bummed out I was so slow. But it didn't take me too long to realize that I wasn't "slow" I was just "weak." And like Sally said, bodyweight exercises are no joke.
Ahhhh also the body learns via integration of new signals from the nervous system- so it’s literally learning new input through a new motor neuron firing pattern!
When you said to strengthen my arms to embrace others I love that so much.Literally my eyes got full of water. I adore you so much. So much respect for you from the core of my heart.God bless you.
Just found this channel after hearing the Marathon Training Academy interview. Having watched a few videos here, and having previously seen 1000 other ultra running, strength running videos, I cannot for the life of me comprehend how this channel doesn't have 2m followers. Instead of focusing on top ten vegan beet smoothies for trail runners, this channel is simply full of really hard work and dedication to personal development. This is an absolute master class in what it takes to be a world class athlete when you really pay attention to the workouts and movements. Huge fan now.
What you said about us all being strong, and strength coming from within, was wonderful. That's one of the reasons I love ultras. I toe the line with people who are far more genetically blessed than I am... who have much more expensive gear... who have much more time to train... (I work 65+ hours a week). Yet at the end of the day, I don't feel like an imposter, because I know my grit and determination are first class. I might be slow, and wearing second hand shoes, but I am determined.
You are such an inspiration to me! I got your app and I’m on day 5 of the 30 day program… I am training for a half marathon, and I had a panic attack the other day, thinking that I wouldn’t be able to do it. I watched an interview that you did and you inspired me so much with your words. I am a slow runner and I know I will be in the back of the pack, but I am not doing it for others, I’m doing it for me, so it doesn’t matter where I am as long as I finish.
This video resonates with me so much. I have had two different spinal injuries for about six years now and I was told by my surgeon I would never run again. But through mindset, hard work, determination and the grace of God, I now run half marathons, lift weights, and, I am working towards a full marathon next year. I love your content, I love that you guys are Christians - you can see it in the way you approach life.
Had serious back surgery after 6 years of miserable pain. After only 6 months the pain returned and I was told I needed another surgery.I had several doctors condemn me to a life of very little physical activity.I decided to fix myself and long story short is I am now 40 and and run, mountainbike, hike with heavy bags, and lift heavy weights.Your mind is much stronger than a doctors diagnosis.
Strength and conditioning coach and former gym owner here. The number of runners that improved their performance after adding strength training to their routine vs declining was always 100% to 0%. Glad you're an advocate and more runners should move away from the stigma.
reading this motivated me so much! I'm currently training for my very first half marathon in September and I'm putting quite a lot of attention to adding strength training to my schedule. I know I need to physically get stronger, both to run better and to stay injury free. ❤
That's an old grandpa's type of life hack.. i.e. when you pack away your winter clothes during the summer, put a tenner in your winter coat which you'll forget about in a half years' time and provide a nice little surprise for yourself.. (and which you then can give to your grandkids when the parents aren't looking) anyway, great insights 👍
Sally, I love your balance of strength training and variation of run workouts. After running 71 ultra marathons I can say that a variety of workouts and runs greatly decreases boredom in training.
I completely love your Jesus shirt. I need one!!! Being a gym rat and runner myself, after watching some of the things you do in the gym encourages me to try them when I’m there. Thank you. ❤
Sally, question for you : Do you think resistance band’s work just as well as free weights?? Thanks 🙂. Also, any chance you could discuss your daily nutrition routine? Strict diet, etc….? Thanks for your videos 🙂👍
Sally I absolutely love your training philosophy. I have always incorporated strength as I got into running after finding body building. I’m trying to do more prehab now and I find your exercises and the videos so helpful! What kind of bands do you use though? I tried to order some but they are so light they are useless. Thanks for your input! Love the videos so much!
The part about renovating house made me laugh. We did the same, from te walls down but I remember cleaning the attic and basement, there was 1 tone and few 10kgs of metal in old appliances that we put on a truck 😂 We sold it for 200$,so strong pays off
So incredible to see you train and promote training in unconventional ways of getting strong! Love you and the fabulous Eddie! (Haha, listened to your podcasts during yesterday's 41 mile run!)
Thank you for all that you share with us, Sally. ❤ My favorite part of my weekends are listening to your podcast while I run. It’s a new weekend morning routine for me now! Yesterday my plan was to run 10 miles… well that turned into 13.1 while listening to your podcast. You inspire me like never before ❤️ As a mom, woman, and athlete. Thank you with all my heart! P.S. the second I walk inside after my run (feeling exhausted) my one year old runs up to me and I had the strength to hold him 💪🏼 Love having a body that is strong!!!
I love those movements without equipment... Would be awesome to have a whole video on all the thing possible to do. I've spend 2h looking at one specefic move and do few reps... fast fowarding the video- fin an other one ... do 20 reps. etc. I would enjoy this kind of video on the day I'm not running. Not a workout video - just all the exercises explained with one or two rep with info :) keep up the great work !
I just got into a bit more running recently. Been playing squash for several years and I think that the training you do would fit my squash game well. I noticed the squats not being that deep, do you ever focus on deep squats and/or knee strengthening exercises like knees over toes stuff? Been suffering from PFPS recently that's why I'm asking. Thank you for being a huge inspiration. Also have Nike discontinued that beautiful yellow cap?
What a beautiful philosophy you have! Randomly found your channel and really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and life! You are very inspirational! Love seeing how others are able to achieve big goals while balancing all the other parts of life (especially motherhood).
When you do the heavier weights, you avoid doing them on legs, or legs more? Like squats with weights compared to bench press which doesnt use your running muscles while squatting does.
Thanks for sharing Sally ! This really came at a time when i Needed to trust myself both as a coach and athelete who combines Lifting and Endurance as a way of life and teaching ! I cannot thank you enough ! God Bless
Please do a video on all your favorite gear. I love the Nike Go shorts, and got them after you talked about them on one of your videos. They are amazing!!
Very inspirataional, all you’ve said makes me nod almost the entire video. Awesome individual, thanks for sharing the tips and for helping other people.
Finally I found someone who thinks like I do. I’ve been working out like this for years. I’m 62 and feel fantastic! Unstructured workouts, listening to my body and just knowing what to do and what not to do in detail has always been the key to success. I’m constantly inventing/creating new types of movements that cater to my needs. It’s an ongoing constant editing process that never ends. A wonderful lifestyle that doesn’t feel like work at all. I look forward to working out all the time. My goal is not ultras like you👍 instead it’s just living a life being fit and healthy and injury free. One of many goals of mine is to do half my age in pull-ups every year. I turned 62 last June and did 33 pull-ups two months ago so I’ve met that goal already and just keep on doing maintenance work for pull-ups. Working out is just an awesome activity in life! I enjoyed your video. I could feel your energy. Good job keep it going even if there’s no specific competitions. Exercising for life👊🏼🙌👍
You're such an inspiration!!! I love watching your content! 😍🤩😁🤗 Beacuse of you, I have started to incorporate ruuning in the mornings and crossfit in the evening. I feel stronger than ever physically and mentally! Love love BPN products!!!! GO ONE MORE!💪🏽
Strength one week (4x8, 6, 4, 2 or 5x5) and endurance (3x15, 12, 10) the next week works for me. Also try rucking for a few hours. Rucking builds muscle while carrying extra weight on your body and it's a lower heart rate workout
I love this so much! I heard one time that you never know when it will be the last time you’re going to pick up your child. And I simply hated that. I want to be able to pick up my child at any age.. until we’re all old. So there it is. My solely motivation to strength train and get strong 💪 ❤
Hi Sally!! First of all, I think you’re awesome. Secondly, I’m a physical therapist and find it challenging to want to program out any workouts/training for myself since I do it for others as part of my job - I’d rather turn my brain off and follow a program created by someone I trust. So I’m just curious, do you program all of your training or do you prefer to work with a trusted coach/trainer or maybe a combo? 💛
Sally, it seems your strength training has balance of machines, free weights and bodyweight. I am a 50 year old age grouper triathlete and only have limited time to train but I do realise the importance of strength training. Do you do any online strength coaching?
When I first started running I was bummed out I was so slow. But it didn't take me too long to realize that I wasn't "slow" I was just "weak." And like Sally said, bodyweight exercises are no joke.

@@spidy2700 yeah lol... big boy here working my way down to cruiserweight

Awesome advice... and if you can hire a good personal trainer that knows about running to help you

What’s the name of her app? I want to run a half marathon next year after having a baby in February 😅

Every time you are jealous of the talents God gave others, just watch Sally--¡No güey! , just hard work.

I need a lie down after watching this, I'm knackered!! 😂😂 keep up the great work 👏 👍 💪
hahaha
I completely love your Jesus shirt. I need one!!!
Being a gym rat and runner myself, after watching some of the things you do in the gym encourages me to try them when I’m there. Thank you. ❤
I must know the story behind this shirt! It struck me so hard too ❤
I run 3-4 days a week 3-5 miles each run. I definitely definitely need to hit weights more.
We love you Sally! I just learn some new stretches from this video. Thanks for the encouragement. We love Eddie also.
i dont even think ive driven 200miles.
Sally, question for you : Do you think resistance band’s work just as well as free weights??
Thanks 🙂. Also, any chance you could discuss your daily nutrition routine? Strict diet, etc….? Thanks for your videos 🙂👍
Super curious on lift then run or run then lift in an episode. You’re a cool and lovely spirit!
Love the Jesus T-Shirt ultimate price paid, Forgiveness

“Give ‘em hell” is a good one too

Such a great video. This advice is sound and backed by scientific and real life evidence. Thank you, as a runner and coach, for sharing 🎉🎉
Where do we get one of those black shirts you’re running in? I can’t make out the company
When you do the heavier weights, you avoid doing them on legs, or legs more? Like squats with weights compared to bench press which doesnt use your running muscles while squatting does.
Hey Sally where can I get that shirt? The black I love you shirt with the blood I the palm.
2:38 “I have a run to do, but first I’m going to eat, change my clothes, and then ***points to shirt: give ‘em hell***!” ✊🏻❤️
Good morning for all the runners. A inspiration review. Like to Sally McRae and nice weekend for everyone. 🌞🏃🏋️
I weight train upper half of my body, after my long run. But before is hard core. I would never run.
Thanks for sharing Sally ! This really came at a time when i Needed to trust myself both as a coach and athelete who combines Lifting and Endurance as a way of life and teaching ! I cannot thank you enough ! God Bless
I love watching your videos! Do you have any recommended workouts for inner thighs?
Sally, I found very comforting listening to you speaking 😊

Awesome and I am in awe of your work ethic. Thank you for a great video.
Do you keep a log of the different exercises and reps that you do?

I am also training for a half marathon. I know I need to strength train. Just not sure when I fit that in with 5 days of running.
