I was born in 1958 and this video has just transported me back through time. For me it was the mid-sixties not 1960, but the thrill is still there. Though I doubt I would have had so much railway stuff to open in one go as my parents weren't very well off. But railway modelling (or train sets - as it was referred to in the day) played such an important part of childhood and youth. You can keep your X-Boxes, it's the model trains for me every time. Thanks for giving me such a nostalgic rush. Chris.
Unfortunately i was born about 40/50 years too late. Im 18 but this world fascinates me. I have a model railway currently although its all modern stuff. Absolutely brilliant video i shall definitely be subscribing
Thanks for watching this. The modern railway items are superb but I bet you would have fun with some vintage bits. If you buy something from the 1970's by Hornby it should run on your modern track. All the best to you
Very good . I was a Tri-ang Hornby kid , but your unwrapping just brings it all back . The excitement , probably down to see if Santa had been very early in the morning then unwrapping all the goodies . I gave my Princess Elizabeth from 1971 a good run on Christmas Eve . 52 years old and still going strong . Happy Days
What a delight to see. That set has been in a time warp to have remained in such excellent condition. I look forward to seeing the loco and coaches on the main layout. All the best in 2024, David.
What a fabulous video. Im sure many of us were transported back in time to when we recieved our very first trainset. Even today theres something special about opening a new trainset. I must say that Red Dragon trainset is as close to new as you could possibly get. It's beautiful. Thankyou for the nostalgia trip.
It's really great to hear you enjoyed seeing the set unboxed. It has survived the decades well. It's fun to run these older items rather than just looking at them. They were so well made. Take care and all the best in 2024
@@MrSnooze I have dug out my Bristol Castle and WR super detail coaches this afternoon and had a Mr Snooze inspired running session on the 3 rail. Great fun.
My first Xmas was 1960 and I still have my original boxed Hornby Dublo train set. It was the Golden Fleece A4 and I have that very controller and it's still boxed too. My second set was the CoBo freight set, still boxed and I have my third set which was another freight set. I now own about 35 Class A4 all boxed and some are set. I also have the Hornby Dublo catalogue issue No. 2
This brought the memories flooding back to the late 50`s for me . Our first train set was a Tri-ang` Princess Elizabeth ` in the big orange box ,, can anyone remember the Tri-ang badge !!!! Then we had the yellow yard switcher ....Then the `Freight Master `with a class 31 (i think ) .still running trains today ,,,never to old ..👍👍and subscribed ....
Lovely to see these mint condition items! I had a Marshall 3 with my first Xmas train set at about the age of 6. I remember at that age being very concerned that our house was being converted from a two wire system of round pin sockets mains to the three pin system we have today. I was worried because my Marshall 3 only had two wires on the mains lead and I badgered my parents to ask the electrician if my Marshall 3 would still work on the three wire system. I was relieved that the answer was “Yes it would!” I am pleased to say the Marshall 3 is still going strong but these days powers a largish Meccano Grandfather clock rewinding mechanism!
It's great to hear you are still getting good service from your Marshall 3. On a different subject I have made many different Meccano Clocks over the years, I was wondering which one you had assembled at the moment? Best regards to you
@@MrSnooze Its the Bert Love No10 set clock with a few additions like an auto rewind and recently added a Meccano man to wind it it up. Built it about 20 years ago. Have added ball races to some of the pivots as it was beginning to show signs of wear. th-cam.com/video/b3OsKztARKE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zY7ss5DI-QBnAU7l
Wow fantastic video and a fabulous train set in superb condition a very enjoyable watch, and thanks for your great content on your channel throughout the year ,wishing you and the family a happy new year ,and get the window fixed 😂I saw that and new straight away what had happened because the very same thing happened to me .all the best Martin
A Happy 2024 to you too Martin, It's great you like seeing the older items up and running. I thought I'd get away leaving that pane of glass for a bit but a note about it has been left on my desk. All the best to you
Hi Jonathan. Regarding the ringfield motor : you have one of the early versions with the rear bearing fixed and armature adjustment made using the front bearing. (be careful with the tiny locking screw) Instructions were sent out with later versions to inform customers of a change to the adjustable rear bearing. In addition you have observed the curious felt pad used to wipe the surface of the commutator of any oily or carbon brush deposits. Premi
Thanks for passing on information about this Ringfield Motor. It's the only one I have like this, I shall be careful with it. Take care, all the best to you
Lovely video Mr Snooze! A great idea which took me back to my first Christmas unwrapping of a Hornby Pullman set in the early 70s. I could feel the memory of that first train set like it was yesterday. Many thanks and happy new year when it comes!
Merry Christmas What a great set of gifts for the time. Had to smile. "You decided that Tri-ang wasn't for you....." 🙄😅 Great video. Stay safe and Happy New Year. Mon
Brilliant video mr snooze, I try to collect railway items from the 1970s as I was born in the mid 60s so collecting triang Hornby and railway modeller from that time, looking forward to the next video, happy new year.
Lovely! - and if you’re a fan of these old Hornby trains there’s the Hornby Railway Collector’s Association (HRCA) nowadays- the spiritual successor of the Hornby Railway Company and celebrating its 55th anniversary in 2024 - great fun for Hornby boys and girls of all ages ❤️
It would be great to take a trip back to a 1960 Model shop. This item has just been stored for decades. It was fun to get it out. Thanks for watching, all the best to you
If I unwrap Tri-ang items next Christmas I'll sort out some better clothes. I'll perhaps have a beer instead of lighting up. Thanks for looking, best regards to you

The red boxes were the direct descendants of the blue boxes. I have a book The History of Hornby Dublo which is a very interesting book.
Yes you are right, they are very colourful items. Thanks for watching, all the best to you
Quality items Mr Snooze - perfick 🙌🏻👏🏻✨
Thanks and a Happy New Year to you
Great little nostalgia trip, I do wonder how many received such a set back in the day and had no way to control it as the controllers were separate.
I bet a few people fell in to the trap of no controller. All the best to you
I remember it well, although mine was 3 rail.
The 3 Rail version of this engine is a lovely item. I actually like the older version pre-ringfield item. Best regards to you
Great for a 64 year old set!! The controller obviously came with the train set!!
The controller does compliment this set. It's always nice to see the packaging and read the labels. Take care, best regards to you
Happy new year....🙂👍🙏🇳🇿
Happy New Year to you also, thanks for watching. Best regards to you
Did you actually _make_ this video in 1960? Only I'm wondering where of earth you found 63 year old Dublo in that condition.
It would be great to take a trip back to a 1960 Model shop. This item has just been stored for decades. It was fun to get it out. Thanks for watching, all the best to you
Great. But couldn't you have dressed for it. A brown suit with a collar and tie. Smoking a pipe perhaps.
If I unwrap Tri-ang items next Christmas I'll sort out some better clothes. I'll perhaps have a beer instead of lighting up. Thanks for looking, best regards to you
