      Bucky, thanks for taking the time to watch that whole series and to comment and share. I'm a little ashamed to say that I still haven't tried to put that gar skull in epoxy yet. Got it boiled and bleached though. Thanks again for stopping by!

    That's not a human bone, either. The gar skull might not hold up to boiling.that is a nice big blade. That shell really doesn't look like it was food waste.probably was ancient ocean. It should be stable, that blade.wouldnt hurt to put it in a separate display box. don't ever clean stones in vinegar.It can react with other minerals in the stone, cause color and texture of limestone and chert. Generally speaking,I found that leaving the natural accretion of patina to be best

    • @meandmyshadow6269
      @meandmyshadow6269  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You were right about the gar skull. I did boil it and it worked okay, but it got pretty soft and even more pieces of the already broken snout splintered and came off. It looks decent but not great. I discovered that the big "crack" in the blade is just a hair-line seam of quartz or some other mineral running through it so it's in better shape than I thought. I also, tend not to clean the finds. A few of them that had really bad algae staining on them I have gently scrubbed with warm soapy water but that's all. Thanks for watching and commenting, Mike!

    Very cool! I live in NM and my wife and I like searching for interesting rocks or whatever we find interesting. I also like hunting animals and can’t help seeing and placing in my pocket rocks and on occasion arrowheads and Indian potsherds. We live right next to the Rio Grande river. You are inspiring me to do a similar channel. Maybe I’ll eventually run across some Spanish gold?!!! Keep up the good work!

      You should definitely start a channel. My channel is so new and it's amazing how many people are out there that are just like you and I that collect rocks and artifacts and treasures. And personally, I really enjoy the filming and editing process as well. It helps keep me productive rather than just laying around and watching too much TV and it feels rewarding. Fire up the camera and put up some videos for me to watch!

    The big one is a Dickson, the black notched point is a Grand. The broken point was also used as a knife. Order the 4 volume Bell & Perino arrowhead special bulletins from OK. Anthropological Society.

    I have found quite a few points in my life and have washed them all and I have had some of them 40 or 50 years. As for the one with the Crack. I think it was in the material that they made the point out of. Congratulations on your success

    • @meandmyshadow6269
      @meandmyshadow6269  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was wondering how cleaning them might effect them in the long-run so it's good to know that they at least stand the test of time for 40 or 50 years after cleaning! I think you're right about the "crack" in that adena. Everyone seems to agree with you on that. And after so much feedback I examined it closer and it does appear to be a hair-line strip of quartz in the material. Which is really cool. Thanks for the feedback!

    Ok, the line you see across the Dickson point is an inclusion formed in the Florence, Kay Co. Material, rather common.

    • @meandmyshadow6269
      @meandmyshadow6269  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's most likely just a vein in the material, and that's an awesome find!

      I think you might be right because I've tried scratching that little area with my finger nail and I can't feel any kind of a crack at all. I think it would have been broken already if it had a full crack all the way around. Thanks for watching and the feedback. I've seen the kind of quality stuff you find so if you say that point is awesome then it really is awesome! thanks!

    You mentioned that you started your channel in order to find out more about the things you have.
    I tend to feel annoying when commenting huge comments/ commenting on every video lol
    But I'll go through all of your vids and ID what you've found.
    😅 I'm in Central OK, so it'll be a fun one.

    Personally I am okay with washing my finds and I think most collectors are. Because we like to see the material in the most original state possible, a natural patina in the stone shouldn't wash off. Heck I have seen guys remove varnish off of old collection points using acetone without any problem. Main thing to worry about when cleaning is the chemicals you use to clean. If you are unsure always check to see if it's safe to use on stone. Generally anything acidic is bad. While dish soup is safe. I think bleach would be good to use to clean off creek scum and algae but I don't do creek hunting so that's something I would say research just to double check.

      Also for the hairline crack as long as you handle the point with care, like any other artifact it should be fine.

    Not to be gross but if you want to put a little sheen on your arrowheads so the definition of work sticks out use some oil off of your face with your finger. Usually by your nose area ☺️ I know that's weird but it works like magic. Try it out let me know what you think.

    • @meandmyshadow6269
      @meandmyshadow6269  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I'm familiar with the technique - I've used it pretty often with coins that I've dug metal detecting but I never thought to try it with the artifacts, good thinking! Thanks for the idea!

  • @richardpotter6540

    You can wash them. Just don't wash off the tiny spots off. It's not dirt, it's patina - a form of mold that grows in the ground over hundreds of years... without patina, it's a fake. Coop
