    To be honest, I think you did the right thing by "peeling off" the blue paint. I think it looks better yellow. If you take the remaining blue paint somehow, it'll look awesome

    I like your habit of cleaning it prior to diagnosing in order to get a bigger picture of what you're dealing with. The breadcrumb hint trail like 2 quarts of trans fluid, foil fuse trick, etc.
    Personally, I LOVE the patina on that truck. Ever since I saw a 50 year car clear coated the way it was, I lOVE the worn look.

      I had a rusted outer body 86 chevy k20 custom deluxe regular cab long bed 4x4 farm truck that was well used it was dented everywhere lol the doghouse was 3 different colors that were not on the truck lol, it was a portable fertilizer sprayer tank truck that is why the outer body was rusted out it had a small hole just in front of the seat about the size of a license plate so that is what i patched it with, truck was midnight blue and frost gloss white separated by the triple dark blue gm 80's pinstripe tape, it had a faded red 83 k15 GMC High Sierra single headlight doghouse and a gloss black hood i loved the look of that truck. I built a 1975 Chevy k20 350 39700010 4 bolt main sbc bored 0.40 and it was a factory forged crankshaft engine and i put lt4 style powdered metal connecting rods from a 1995 260hp gm performance crate motor 350sbc, and i paid for the bottom rotating assembly to be balanced because of what i planned to use the truck for i also used the 991 cylinder heads off the same motor, and i added a competition cams xe 268h 477/480 lift cam kit,, and a summit racing brand gear drive timing set and it was the one machined for more noise oh well it was given to me and it was brand new,heddman long tube round port headers and flow tec red hots 11 inch blowed out glass pack mufflers, and i also had the th400hd transmission rebuilt and it got a B&M stage 2 RV and Towing shift improver kit and a B&M torkmaster 3,000 rpm stall converter more like a 2,100rpm stall torque converter but i loved the lopey idle it had and i kept that truck and it was a daily driver for 12 and half years and it dependably hauled loads of firewood and scrap metal and several loads of heavy gauge scrap steel and loads of mulch for my momma and dad and a buddy of mine used it to get a load of gravel,it was a truck that you could crawl to town at 15-25mph in the snow and occasionally pulling people out of the ditches and still making it to town to get to the grocery store like i said it was a great truck...

    Brad this is good stuff. Keep it going. I think back to the days when one of our many used cars was on its ass and we would have to call a tow service and off to the farm mechanic they would go. Just thinking how great it would’ve been to have a collection of “will they run?” videos.

    That ERA Mopar used a fusible link. A weak spot that melted if there was a short. looks like that is what you were holding. You can always jump a wire from the positive battery to the ballast resistor to get spark.

    I remember the 1st time I had to replace the ignition cylinder in my 68 Oldsmobile. (last year for the dash mount cylinder) Man, did I pull some hair out of my head, trying to figure out how the hell the cylinder came out of the switch. Till this day, I carry a paper clip and a small nail in my toolbox. Still a lot easier than doing a column cylinder though. And I have also fixed a lot of steering wheel horns in my day. I think it's funny when you see a car with a nice new aftermarket steering wheels and 1 of those silly white horn buttons mounted to the dash. Thanks for the video

    Cool that you saved this truck my current truck is a 2000 dodge ram laramie slt quad cab long bed 318 magnum V8 46 RH automatic overdrive transmission manual shift transfer case lever on the floor gloss black with most of the white pinstripe and i saved that truck from getting parted out.. for rusted off front brake lines and i replaced almost all of them except for the ones up under the bed since they don't leak yet and they are in the truck as well as the new front rubber brake hoses are in the truck and the previous owner hacked off the muffler for a annoying whistle sound it was a pinhole in the muffler factory flange tubing lol, and I was planning on replacing it with a 8 inch long case mini cherry bomb glass pack muffler and the pieces of exhaust pipe tubing to reconnect the factory single exhaust tailpipe since it was all in really good shape considering it was a northern Ohio truck so is the bed on the truck actually, the previous owner has replaced the front pump input shaft seal and torque converter so the transmission worked great if you put this truck into reverse if you didn't have your foot on the brake pedal it would just start backing up, and the front suspension is completely rebuilt truck drove way better than most of the second gen dodge trucks i have rode in worked on or owned myself, the other two issues why it was going to get parted out is it would not stay charged guy delivered the truck and jumped the battery we backed it off the trailer and it didn't stop running til i turned off the key and i told the guy there's nothing wrong with that alternator or it would have immediately died as soon as I hit the back of the trailer because the hill in the yard would have slowed down the truck and it stayed running that is a bad ground cable.sure enough battery was 6 years old and was leaking down the battery and it leaked on the ground cable lug coming out of the underhood power distribution center fuse box and rotted it almost in two replaced the battery cable and it started right up with a good battery, and the dash cluster had failed something apparently as common as it is with the tbi and vortec gmt 400 trucks, and on the dodge everything quit working but the low fuel light temp guage bright indicator and the right side turn signal nothing else worked not even the tach,so now it has a 77k cluster in the truck and everything works truck runs strong for a 210k miles 318 magnum V8 i gave $1,500 for the truck

    Was that carb a 4 bbl, I never saw a 318 factory with a 4 bbl, maybe someone swapped the engine. Never less, loved the tailgate install with a BFH. Nice patina stripper water pressure power wash LOL. Great share - thanks for bring us along.

      true they always had the tiny 2 bbl carb on them. I'm sure someone put that on there got the intake off a 360 I know that what I did with my 318 was tossed a 360 intake with a 4bbl on it just for that little more pep

    A Thermoquad on a 318 was not at all common. It might be a 360. The TQ, despite being produced in massive numbers was not very good. Consider a AVS. Spread bore design, but more reliable. Bigger problem may be electrical, it sounds like it's running on six. Nice work.

    That's the good thing with Dodge trucks they have the plastic tank so they don't rust out like ford and the Chevy trucks and they are easy to clean out with some acetone or whatever and don't have to worry about rust and crap

  • @79tazman

    Sounds to me like it has a bad vacuum leak and that popping may be from a valve hanging or burnt I'm sure that is why it's gutless too. get it running better then it will be alright hopefully it's not a burnt valve but you never know.

    If that's nice and quiet, I'd hate loud and noisy. Now when you ran it on the tank it got quiet but you got one hell of a tap from those lifters. Should disappear with heat.

    • @gamecockmike175
      @gamecockmike175 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL. oh yeah. She runs like a beauty but it does run. You're right though, those 318 last forever. I had almost the same model. The only time I had a problem with it, it hated a bath. There was a coil that would get wet everytime I washed the damn thing and then I would have to replace the coil on it. So it never got but two baths. I never understood why they put that coil right where the water would screw it up. You would think the rain would mess it up but it wouldn't, just the car wash. Even with the coil wet, that thing would run but spit and sputter and fart, make all kind of noises. It was hilarious pulling up beside a car with a truck acting like that but besides that, the motor on that thing ran as good when I gave it away as it did when I first bought it and my dumb ass brother who I actually loaned it to went and took one of those car loans out on it and lost it. The truck weren't worth much but you couldn't have replaced it for what he borrowed on it. You know those ripoff places.
