    Bang on Ricky, I go to my local one and spoke to the manager she said we are not hear to be a storage centre, we want to sell it, hence its priced to sell, I wish all charity shops had that mentality

    I used to work in the accounts department for a large nationwide charity and you’re right, nobody is buying from the town stores (the big city stores still do ok but towns, not so much). So much just goes in the skip and off to landfill. The write off is absolutely massive! It’s disgusting. Sometimes they might make a bit back from the rag trade or scrap but it’s minimal because they can’t be bothered to do it. They get away with it because people will always donate to them. I hate charity shops nowadays. Most people have been priced out of them. I get they want to cut out the middle man and make as much money as possible but they’re just not and that’s why so many close. It’s sad. The only ones I’ve found worth bothering with are the large Cancer Research superstores.

    Two of the three charity shops in my town closed last year, Which left us with Oxfam, There more commercial branded oxfam items in there than donations now. I’ll have to hunt further afield. That first shop you went in was massive! Thanks for the vid mate, always motivates me!

    I used to volunteer in our local Red Cross shop in town and we kept prices very reasonable and also played fair with customers, especially regulars by giving deals or a little more off.... we heard stories of shops making mors money with clothes going in bulk to rags, taken away in huge bags........ they have closed now, so has Bernard's but we have 4 left .....Salvation Army, Marie Curie, Mental Health and Cancer Research....the last one expensive but one of the others is cheap enough but put out stained clothes etc.....worse than anything!x

    I used to go to ten shops and fill boot of my car, now I can go to twenty or thirty and be lucky if I find one item, so don't really bother anymore as it's such a time suck. Obv they're not there for us resellers but even for the regular customer most are riddled with fakes, poor quality items at mad prices. Worn and stained items at higher prices than new in tkmax. Whenever I'm in one they're often turning away people coming in with free donations as they have too much stock out back and yet have the same stock on rails/shelves for six months. Only way you can do well in them now is knowing more about unusual brands or catching them slipping, Double RL at normal ralph prices etc.

    A lot of the Medical charities have their fingers in so many pies now that their high street shops are more of a show a presence than the main source of their income. Yes they have to make a profit, but they no longer have to give stuff away at such low cost as they can afford to sit on stuff. Take BHF as an example: they have a large amount of events each year, plus a lottery, donations, eBay, and like most have moved into selling more furniture for higher profits. I honestly see the longer term future for fulltime resellers is that many will have to get used to the fact that we will have to work harder, sell more, and expect a lower R.O.I on a lot of stuff. I have to admit to having serious thoughts of finding part time employment next year to take some of the daily pressure off.

    My clothing retail shop was 4 stores down from them and they used to come in (the managers) and price up their stuff just below mine. Cheeky slaves lol
    I have a good local one that’s a small non branch one that’s an actual charity shop with no director.

      Its not rocket science though, a local charity shop has a limited amount of local traffic (footfall) to achieve maximum retail prices for used goods you need people looking for specific items of interest. Pair that with average people just browsing for a bargain and you have two major problems. You cant rely on off chances that someone is going to walk in and think I wonder if they have a Barbour fleece for sale THATS EXACTLY MY SIZE! This kind of customer would just jump online and search and pick the one he likes online and have a multitude of options and conditions to look through instead rather than off chance random searching and hoping. See its people like yourself that just cannot grasp this concept that don't understand! And unfortunately its managers and upper tier staff that have the same mindset as yourself. Then they wonder why they struggle to meet targets, stock never shifts for months on end, and stock rotation is none existent in some shops. You just don't get it! Letme go deeper: a charity shop can exponentially achieve more sales and have the till ringing constantly without this mentality, therefore smashing targets, shifting stock, always having new stock on the shop floor, which in turn = more footfall. Are you getting it yet? Its the reason many are shutting down, they dont understand these concepts. The big managers and CEO's are clueless. Charity shops have volume, free stock! so they should be volume sellers, selling 100x more stock for cheaper prices will still beat waiting for the odd higher tier price, which in turn smashes targets and creates the revenue needed to pay wages, rent and survival of them on the high street long term. If you work in a charity shop by chance its about time you understood economics. Charity shops are slowly killing themselves, its just fact, we are first hand witnessing it, but of course people like me that can see their mistakes will be wrong according to those who cannot grasp the truth. Lets see in the next 5 years!

    • @ImARD98
      @ImARD98 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      BHF gets their stuff for free, they literally have no reason to “make a profit” besides from paying the rent and their CEOs. Also that one person might want that very item at that very moment in time hence why they buy on eBay

    Have any of you lot considered the influence so of your own activities are raising the prices beyond the obvious... 1. You have opened up the secret of reselling - when i started 15 years ago, we kept to shush. So your competition is higher 2. Instead of giving good stuff to the chazzer, people now sell the good stuff and give the cr4p to them 3. You all dump ur own unsold cr4p on them 4. Most chazzers are now online so to keep the B&M open they need to get the same revenue from the bad stock, they are charities so they cant offset the costs with the online sales - that all needs to go to the charity unlike other types of shops.
    You are the cause of the downfall

    • @georginacat7667

      @RickyResells the only " issue" I have around your pricing structure is how it impacts and can cause I sudden drop in pricing that's hard to recover from in the market, which in turn can impact you. Let's say an items selling price is £100, you undercut by 50. If it sells quick - minimal impact and I know that's your aim. Totally. But if it lingers, the whole market starts to drop toward that number, so yours will sell first, but instead of leaving 10 £100 behind, you leave 10 nearer the 50 mark. So when YOU come along again, you are looking at £50 average selling price meaning you then undercut by £25 and we are needlessly spiralling to the bottom. Amazon was the worst for that because there is so much price matching software and I know you don't sell there. But it is still apparent on Ebay.
      I ain't hating, I ran my business how I wanted to run my business and would stick my finger up to anyone who tried to tell me how to, so I do totally respect you and your business model, I'm just trying to chat it through as I think it's interesting and you are literally the only uk reseller I respect.

      Lets also factor in some major major global factors that have skyrockted the cost of living so people just dont have the financial means to give things away. Everyone and their dog are trying side hustles. So much so that the government introduced taxes on said side hustles. Charity shops will just have crap in the brick and mortar shops. Anything of value is likely being sent elsewhere or sold online. Everyone has an impact here. It isnt one specific thing. I even thought of doing it but i just cant be bothered. Its easier to dump crap on Facebook marketplace, vinted, depop, etc.. and call it a day. People have become tighter with money as they have to, resources have made it easier to buy and sell online with virtually no costs and the over saturation of resellers has definitely had its role to play.
