    The old manager at the charity shop near me used to have set prices for everything. £2 tees, £3 shirts, £5 hoodies, and £7 coats. It didn't matter what brand, they just set prices for everything, and they did so well that he got promoted to run a bigger store. Very quick turnaround, always new stuff out daily. A new manager comes in and sets prices for everything. £10 Ralph Lauren tees, £20 Superdry coats, ect. prices were too high, and the stock never changed. A year later, the shop shut down, and it was not making enough money....

      This is happening at one of my local shops right now. One already closed down. At the second one, the manager keeps learning about how to 'better price stuff' and whenever he is on duty (most days) there is nothing good in the shop. Just keeps adding some worthless , massively overpriced, often damaged leftover junk. He tries to sell one bar of Dove soap for a quid:> I wonder how long before they close down. At this stage, I am so fed up with looking at their tr@sh that I may actually feel better when they finally close the circus down.

    Charity shops are run like businesses now, I used to go to them 2-3 times a week, now I only go to them once every 3-4 weeks. They have a backlogs stock that they can't put out on the floor because nothing is shifting because their prices are too high and they throw away a lot of perfectly good items because they have no space. They'd rather overprice something and let it sit on the shelves for 6 months than keep stock flowing, allowing them to would most likely make more money.
    I remember being at a charity shop and someone came in with donations, they told the person they had been refusing donations all day because they don't have any more room in the back, I was there thinking "well stop pricing everything so dam high then you'll have room".

      Tell them, I told one snooty manageress, and she went some long winded point to justify it.... Then she said we are a charity after all... Trying to guilt me in to accepting the extortionate prices,... I said I suppose when you get your wages, you must give a couple of hundred back, I mean you wouldn't want to take from a charity. (she was one of the paid manageress hoyty toyty types)

      LOL I literally told a lady in a Oxfam bookstore the other day that the books were so tightly packed on the shelves that it made browsing a challenge, and perhaps they could take 2-3 off each shelf. I was told they have to put them like that because there's SO MUCH STOCK OUT BACK WITH NOWHERE TO GO. They are pricing lots of the books at £5, £8, £10 and up. Sheer madness and pure greed.

    I work at this shop and would like to point out a few inconsistencies in the video. The PSP had been in the shop around a week, it’s obviously not the only one we’ve had donated. It was priced at £120, and included 11 boxed games, around 25 unboxed ones, charger and case. It was priced by one of our younger volunteers who is a gamer and does his research. We are here to make money for the charity. No matter your views on charity shops and CEO salaries, for people who work in these stores that is our main objective. Everyone in our store is approachable if you feel something is priced wrong and we’re always happy to discuss pricing. This item sold for £100, and that’s because the gentleman who brought it, spoke to us.

    • @JonSheppardsells

      The camera don't lie there was not that many games on display but Ebay prices are higher as all the work that goes into photographing, fees, publishing it worldwide. Charity Shops get all this free and think they are all Ebay shops. All your prices were way over priced

    • @AlexandraMason-hb2yq
      @AlexandraMason-hb2yq 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      No they were in a case behind the console. I think the cost of running a store that helps fund 7 hospice’s and bereavement care is significantly higher than someone selling on eBay. We are very lucky and grateful to have so many lovely people donate their items for free to help us fund the charity and keep the shop open. We have lots of positive feedback from customers and many, many regulars. Feel free to give us a call, we’re happy to chat to you.

  • @JustTrumpeeh

    I'm glad someone's finally calling charity shops out for what they're doing!
    Resellers get a bad name for making money from these shops, but all we're doing is highlighting that a lot of these shops are actually ripping off the general public.
    I'll never feel sorry for the high street shops - your Cancer Research/British Heart Foundation/Oxfam etc. They have targets to hit, and I'd question just how much they make and how much of that goes to the actual cause...
    I'd much rather support the local shops, but they tend to either price too high or just don't get the quality of goods in now.
    Price low, shift lots of stock and you're probably going to do significantly better. Simple.

    Lol, gotta laugh at your honesty though Jon, no matter what people think about your ranting recently. I was sat here laughing right through. Charity shops are just companies trying to monitor and monopolize the used goods market! I don't know why people cant see it yet. If you take a look into the CEOs and shareholders of these COMPANIES who set up as charities in the guise of helping good causes, then start digging into the connections of families and private investors you will see it leads to the same families and people dominating all other sectors of the trade markets.
    They already control and manufacture most products we buy, they now want to cash in on the resale of old stuff and peoples cast offs. They see the second hand goods market as being worth billions which it is, they no longer want it in the hands of the small time men. And to top it off they want it all given to them completely free, then hire a few staff and hire a workforce that consists of unpaid staff (so free workers) then they subsidize themselves via government funding to dominate the market.
    The charity is just a frontal illusion of giving back. The businessmen at the top are rewarded with salaries up to 5x higher than the prime ministers wages. Odd that isnt it? People need to start thinking!

      @JonSheppardsells  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    In my opinion Sue Ryder is and always will be the best Charity Shop in Cannock. I am a regular donator and buyer. If i think something is overpriced I will say something and the staff there are more than happy to do a deal if they agree. The staff and the Manager are very flexible. I only buy things for myself or friends and never to sell on. You are always going to want something at a rock bottom price if you are trying to profit from it. Actually filming the shop whilst going around slating it is disgusting.
