Super review, Thomas, as ever... Never thought I would ever contemplate a green car, but pangea green, on the three door particularly, looks fantastic. Just wish you could get a fixed panoramic roof on the 3 door. Looks much better in the flesh than on video.
All these keyboard critics who want it to be as utilitarian as the original clearly do not understand that such a vehicle simply wouldn’t sell in sufficient numbers to turn a profit. You don’t invest massive amounts in the development of a vehicle like this and narrow your market appeal. I think this is an excellent design that will age well. It also can be produced in future stripped down variants that are intended more exclusively for the Safari crowd.
Yes 100% there was a reason people stopped buying the old Defender. The new Defender commercial has just been released. Simpler coil spring suspension and a list price of £35k/$40k, could be a winner.
I’ve seen the 5 door version recently launched in India. The engine is a small unit. A 2 litre petrol. In my book it is underpowered. And has to work very hard indeed to pull that huge bulk along. The tyres are 255/65/19. Alloy wheels and all of course. Looking at the vehicle, it does seem a little under tyred too. The new Defender 2020 is far larger than the Range Rover itself and originally that was supposed to be the bigger brother! I am 6ft 2 inches tall and this Defender was literally towering over me when I stood next to it. It is full of thoughtful touches and feels solid. However, I am not at all sure, after watching TFL videos on TH-cam, about its overall reliability, on account of the simply excessive number of electronic gizmos it comes loaded with.
Younare clearly an idiot. Go take this on the canning stock route. See if you make it out with 84 ECU's, under body cameras, and air suspension. This needs an auto electrician to fix not a mechanic. You CANNOT rely on this for long distance trips, grow up man child.
Yeah... until something goes wrong, then you are flatbedding to back to a capital city because Land Rover gutted their country dealer network. I've had ~ 10 Land Rovers (Defender; Disco; RR) and I'll probably buy one of these new 110's in base model spec, so I don't hate LR at all. But if I was crossing the Simpson (which I am doing next week) I'd not be taking my Defender (I'm going in a LandCruiser 76 series).

I believe that the direction of the boot door is defintely an issue in country with right driving law. It demands much more space between your car and other's. Otherwise, you hardly can open the door and move stuff in.

@@Starfighter-7 sounds like you better watch a TH-cam video on how to change your own wipers. As for the price of gas, you only have about 2 years of that crap, then the electric vehicles will take over, so don’t worry.
For me I think it would have to be the P400e hybrid you save on uk car road tax and using the electric motor would give you around 27 miles of range so adding to fuel savings over the diesel. Great review thanks Thomas.
Flawless, professional presentation, as always. For me, Land Rover has the best design language in modern car industry. Evoque, Discovery, Defender, Velar, Range Rover, all just gorgeous, exteriors and interiors. They make all other makers' SUV offers (especially upmarket brands), to look plain clumsy in comparison. Except maybe some Volvo and Peugeot SUVs. And BMW X2.
Very good review! One technical note (at 39:58): 3 to 1 reduction gear does not necessarily mean that 1st gear in high range equals 3rd gear in low. In this ZF 8-speed 1st gear high range is closer to 4th gear at low range.
@ Autogefühl trying to decide D250 110 or P400e. Any suggestions? I feel the diesel would be good but not sure if it is a smart investment based on the "bad diesel" name. Suggestions? You'e mentioned in the end too about considering competition, what would you say is a safe and good buy of a premium suv at the moment? Thinking of the Defender as everything else getting a facelift X5, GLE, RRS....
I've had three Land Rover Series III (109 "and two 88"). Series III was the forerunner of Defender. It's really fun to see how Land Rover has developed the concept to a modern age and maybe more so than the Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen, which I first drove in 1983 with the W460 model. I like that Land Rover has kept the concept fairly serious and not made the car so-called upmarket and distinctly posh. That it will still be posh in some contexts I'm pretty sure, but this may not be Land Rover's fault :)
I live in Belize central america,a secret paradise for all sorts of adventurous people, just got to say, that our first prime minister had a landrover defender for his all purpose touring of the country and he rarely had any issues making his way to see people in real hard to reach villages especially after a flood, our terrain here is very serious for testing great upcoming suvs,in the past when the Mercedes ml30 was coming out along with the introduction of the new lexus then and old now was the lexus rs300 was going up against 3 other suvs & the lexus & Mercedes did well but had to have technology to check on how capable those where but this new landrover Defender would be something to really have to do some test driving here, but it would need a engine snorkel just to insure a safe travel experience.
Hi Thomas. Thank you very much for your review! I've noticed your left knee was touching the door handle bar while driving. Is it soft in that area? Or annoying hard plastic?
Do you think that Land Rover will correct the rear door swing direction for markets that drive on the right side of the road for next year’s model? Dodging traffic while trying to load my cello in the back is just too stressful for daily life.
That run to 162 was impressive. Where I live would get your car taken away.Germany is so sensible. One thing I have not seen anyone mention is the fact the car is wifi connected. Maybe you can update navigation maps easily ?
Hi thomas i just purchased the new defender and having some noise problems when i go over 120kph the sound seems to be coming around the windshield and it’s the same sound you get when you hit a bug or flies but it’s constant over that speeds did you had the same problems on your test thanks in advance
Good to know you are doing well! And I must say that your reviews are as good as ever. As far as this new Defender it will take time ...to get used to it. Some nice details, but the price is a bit of a let down. Keep safe.
Yeah common issue with Euro SUVs and seven seater models. There is a reason our US SUV seven seaters are so large. Even the Disco back seats are a bit lacking on leg room.
In the US, we don't get the Diesel engines... I'm debating between the P300 and P400 for a 90... I've driven both: I don't know if I can justify $7,500USD extra for the P400 engine.
The question I asked myself before getting the p300 was: Do I tow near the maximum weight, no I only tow around 1200kg which isn’t too heavy. If the vehicle has a mechanical problem, the p300 is simpler because there is no electric supercharger or mild hybrid system to work on. Fuel consumption is better in the p300 because here in Australia, I run with 18 inch Michelin tyres (can’t remember which series) and I average around 25-30 imperial mpg. When loaded for camping trips with my trailer and equipment the fuel consumption drops to about 18 mpg but fuel here is like 5 usd a gallon so it’s not much of a concern. The maintenance will be cheaper than the p400. If I had the choice to get it again, I would definitely get the P400e plug in hybrid.
I believe it will be more successful and better accessible around the would than the previous. Some people just love to hate and have no idea and quote out dated ideas.
The gclass interior is more premium, but sadly only available with animal skin. If MB could gimme non animal seating it probably would be the gclass for me. However the air suspension of the defender rocks...

And BMW X2.
🙏
Awesome presentation
Absolute brilliant review and very professional thanks 👍
If you want to go off-road, go with a Land Rover, but if you also want to come back, go with a Land Cruiser.
Original
Now tell us a joke about the camera man
I prefer the old Defender, but I spend 56 minutes , enjoying the video....great review!!!!!
Awesome!
This is going to be good! Thanks in advance!
Great review as always. Disco 4 successor.
Absolutely. I simply could not overcome the look of the D5’s rear. Patiently waiting for this to arrive in oz.
cargo space is quite compromised though in comparison to the Discovery. might matter to some.
Cushions of front seats don't has adjustments length, is it comfortable for you? Thanks.
Hey, big fan of the channel, i was wondering when will you be doing reviews in 4K Full Sceen xd ?
When bandwidth improves worldwide 🤗
Very good review! One technical note (at 39:58): 3 to 1 reduction gear does not necessarily mean that 1st gear in high range equals 3rd gear in low. In this ZF 8-speed 1st gear high range is closer to 4th gear at low range.
Thanks!
Does the silver one have the factory satin wrap on it? Thanks
@ Autogefühl
trying to decide D250 110 or P400e.
I really like X5 6cyl or 6cyl PHEV with Sensatec seats
Land Rover has huge reliability issues sadly
@@autogefuehl Thank you. would you be concerned going Diesel this day and age or probably better to pay more for the alternatives?
depends on which brand / which engine and your driving profile. Diesel is for long trips / high milage
Hi Thomas. Great review! Thanks.
How can you get in & out of the sunroof with your keys ?or optional roof ?For when it floods in your area in short notice
Soccer Mums will love it!
Excellent Review ...................
Hi Thomas. Thank you very much for your review!
I've noticed your left knee was touching the door handle bar while driving. Is it soft in that area? Or annoying hard plastic?
Thanks! Hmm good ques
Rather hard
@@autogefuehl Thanks, that's honest.
Need to try how bad it is personally )))
Do you think that Land Rover will correct the rear door swing direction for markets that drive on the right side of the road for next year’s model? Dodging traffic while trying to load my cello in the back is just too stressful for daily life.
No idea, interesting aspect
That run to 162 was impressive. Where I live would get your car taken away.Germany is so sensible. One thing I have not seen anyone mention is the fact the car is wifi connected. Maybe you can update navigation maps easily ?
yes indeed, it is always on
does the camera show whats in front of the vehicle?
Awesome defenda review
Hi thomas i just purchased the new defender and having some noise problems when i go over 120kph the sound seems to be coming around the windshield and it’s the same sound you get when you hit a bug or flies but it’s constant over that speeds did you had the same problems on your test thanks in advance
No. Could be an unbalanced mass? Check with dealer
Autogefühl i think it’s coming from a pillar plastic covers but i am not sure i will check with dealer thanks
I love full review like this. dont cut this please. thanks
🙏
But how much is the cargo area in liters ?
upgrade the stereo and you get ambient lighting, amazing
*Why did the cop pull over the U-Haul truck?*
He wanted to bust a move.
Is it just me or does the new 3.0L I-6 that JLR offers not sound like an I-6?? It’s very V6 in engine note.
Does it have adaptive cruise control?
you can get it sure
Love the 90
The side mirrors are gigantic
Review the 2 door version with the steel white rims
We will when available
Good to know you are doing well!
And I must say that your reviews are as good as ever.
As far as this new Defender it will take time ...to get used to it.
Some nice details, but the price is a bit of a let down.
Keep safe.
😎👍
40:34 there are two bags in the air suspension to minimise discomfort with reduced dampening

Hopefully there’s going to be a video on the defender 90 too?
Quick question why the onroad tyres ? The 2020 Defender comes with Good Year Duatec
the diesel had the offroad tyres... you can put different tyres on of course. They didnt expect anyone to go offroading with the P400 =)
@@autogefuehl I have just ordered the P400 with the Goodyear's !!! Good video by the way
Yeah common issue with Euro SUVs and seven seater models. There is a reason our US SUV seven seaters are so large. Even the Disco back seats are a bit lacking on leg room.
Would love to see you do the Dodge Challenger next!
Hey, that half-ash pano sun roof will still be nice for most users in the summer when searching for their Starbucks.
50:20 Ooh nice Beetle 😂😂😂🤙🏻🤙🏻
39:34 aw man, that's a missed chance.
"And now to ou roff-road driving..."
Why not: "Welcome to Thomas' crawling lounge!" :-D
😂
9:21 🤗🤗🤗
12:20 - the camera men has no clou, what Thomas is talking about.
Best review of this car I've seen yet! But I'd still keep my LandCruiser 😉
thanks Tim !
In the US, we don't get the Diesel engines... I'm debating between the P300 and P400 for a 90... I've driven both: I don't know if I can justify $7,500USD extra for the P400 engine.
The question I asked myself before getting the p300 was:
Do I tow near the maximum weight, no I only tow around 1200kg which isn’t too heavy.
I think they missed a trick not developing a coil sprung 110 commercial as well as a 90. Maybe they have plans?
90 commercial variant coming up. Keeping u posted.
@@autogefuehl I'll be waiting.
👍🏿👏🏿 🌞...Thank You for such a great review!
cheers!
Tiffany Davis/Beard-Davis?
This will sell very well.
Yeah. Amazing off-road and very spacious vehicle. Would buy for those reasons as a secondary SUV.
I believe it will be more successful and better accessible around the would than the previous. Some people just love to hate and have no idea and quote out dated ideas.
Thomas.....G350d or Defender D240HSE??
The gclass interior is more premium, but sadly only available with animal skin. If MB could gimme non animal seating it probably would be the gclass for me. However the air suspension of the defender rocks...
@@autogefuehl The G-class PROFESSIONAL comes with fabric upholstery...
