A lot of people are probably thinking the intro is making fun of a particular copy guru. It isn't. Truth is, when I sat down to write the script, I watched videos from 5 different gurus/youtubers and pulled snippets of copy almost verbatim from them, often without changing anything. So we're really trying to satirize broad tendencies in the beginning and not anyone individually. The goal? Show you what not to do, give you things to think about when it comes to persuasively presenting promises & proof & notions in your copy, tell you what to watch out for in the world so you don't get duped, and also give you some clear tips about writing powerful COMPLIANT copy. I don't think this video will do super great because it's, you know, so all over the place. But if it helps a few people either avoid grifters or avoid getting in trouble with the FTC or ad networks, we've done our job well. -Sean P.S. To be honest,your 5 hr long free course is worth more than that of many paid courses out there. The RIOA template and the sticky research template is whoa 😳. I couldn't find so much value anywhere else. As a self learner (as I don't have huge bucks to spend and starting from negative line) I honestly appreciate you.
I'm an avid learner, and I'm so glad that you decided to put this out. It took me quite some time (and money) to learn which courses or channel is worth listening to and supporting. And you guys are at the top of the list. Hopefully, more people will be aware of these BS marketing scams and learn how to screen them out. My favorite algorithm keyword these gurus are hammering home right now is "10k per month". It seems to be the flavor of 2024. I go to their YT videos just to scroll down to the comments and laugh at the people being fooled. In reality, 10k is such an arbitrary number. Many beginners would have their lives changed just by making 2-3k a month.
Why do I feel as if you guys are mocking all of the $10,000 a month copywriter gurus who have promised me a life of ease, writing copy for an hour a day from the beach, with a Mai Tai in one hand, and my laptop in the other?
You can just learn copywriting itself, but this really is an "all roads lead to Rome" situation. If you study and annotate lots of landing pages, you will inevitably start to notice design patterns and begin to develop your own preferences.
The one I'm wearing in the video? That was $150, out the door. And it is not that complicated. There's this one shirt that costs $1,000 because the pattern's so wild. I want that one so bad.

Patreon for a month and watch them there. That way you won't get a bunch of stuff that's only relevant to copywriters. The 3 masterclasses in that course are all about finding clients, pitching, networking, and CVs/sourcing in-house roles - and they're all available on the Patreon.
The skits and the voice changing though humorous, scrambles my brain and my focus drops making it harder for me to listen for the value you're explaining with the funny voice and skits running on so long. (just some free insight) I love the copythat team and how much you guys have opened my eyes on copy!
This one's a masterpiece, very well explained. I thought I'd get lost in the long skit but it was effective showing different ways of writing scummy copy. Brilliant skit.🔟 Bet FTC disliked the video as they won't be getting bazillion dollar cheques too easy now on. Also the copy gurus watching might rectify their claims by now ... I hope🥲. So that copywriting is treated like a career. And no one might fall for a guru saying, "Write copy worth $5k" bs headlines anymore ... Which attract 14yr olds asking clients on day 1.
The opening was an amalgam of like... 5 different videos I watched. The fact that you immediately jumped to Tyson doesn't bode well. Are you saying he does not do the unethical and potentially illegal things we're pointing out?
Same style of clothes? I just purposefully picked the most ridiculous outfit I own. Like, I don't see Tyson in a shirt from the comedy show I Think You Should Leave. But rapidity and ease are not the only things we're satirizing and pointing out as a problem with many modern copy gurus. There's big promises that violate FTC guidelines. There's using testimonials from kids to groom more of them into buying courses. There's inadequate disclosures around the typicality of proof and claims. There's using cherry picked examples to mislead. There's bullying and putting other people down by calling them "NPCs" or "brokies" to make the guru look better. There's using excessive hyperbole--"best" "most" "biggest" etc.--as a child might. If Tyson doesn't do these ignorant, obnoxious, unethical, potentially illegal things? Then he's all right in my book, and undeserving of criticism.
We will not ever do that, for the reason we provide at the end of the video. Calling out individuals to criticize them to make us look better in comparison is also scummy.
