You've just been hoodwinked!. 1993 MJ was not better than 1992 MJ at all. hint. 1993 ECF NYK vs Bulls. MJ was ave 1st 3 games as bulls trailed 1-2 as jordan shot around kobe'ish 38%FG. 1993 ECSF vs CAVS, MJ cooled off with18 pts game and 29 pts game after starting 1993 ECSF game 1 with 43pts over jordan stopper gerald wilkins because he sprain his wrist in this series. 1993 MJ lost many very close regular season games I can count atleast 10. 1993 Bulsl finished with only 57 wins as compared to 67 wins in 1992. 1993 MJ was burned out cuz of 1992 olympics and constantly complained of 1993 regular season fatigue.

    • @JStarNewYrk
      @JStarNewYrk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@mkhan8527 I'm 41 y/o and wholeheartedly agree with your assessment.
In 1993, MJ was mentally and physically tired and it showed (playing 100+ games in the 1992 season - followed by the 1992 Olympics).
Stats don't tell the whole story. Compared to his previous years, he was less explosive; began to pace himself more; and became more of a jump shooter (including more 3s). I also felt that he lost a little of that mental edge that was unmatched in previous years (he regained it again in 1996). He also had a lot more off games this season, including in the playoffs.
Don't get me wrong, he was STILL Michael Jordan and was the most skilled that year... but by his standards, 1993 doesn't deserve the 1st ranking on the S tier.
His individuals stats were still outstanding, but he was a little less consistent and it showed - specially in the ECF vs the Knicks. MJ only had 2 good games in that series (Game 4 + 5). The Bulls lost the 1st 2 games (winning 4-2) and from games 3-6, I will argue that Pippen was more pivotal than MJ. Pippen had great games 3, 5, and 6. MJ was mediocre (to his standards) in games 3 and 6.
The Finals that year was record-breaking for him, but after the struggles with the defensive-minded Knicks, the offensive-minded Suns were a cakewalk.

1993 was the first year you can tell he lost a considerable amount of hops. But his game IQ and mid range game was just masterful. For me MJ’s absolute peak was 1991.

  • @eazyduzit-tr3nx

1990 MJ is underrated, this playoff run doesn’t get much attention as it should. He had 6 games over 40+ points, 10 games over 35+ points, 12 games over 30+ points. All in only 16 playoff games, that’s incredible.
Also he had 5 games over 45+ points. To put that in perspective, Wilt/LBJ both have 7 45+ points in the playoffs for their entire career. Kareem/Kobe/KD/Curry all have a combined 7 45+ points.
MJ should’ve been in the finals that year, and had Pippen/Grant & everyone else (minus MJ) would’ve shown up in game 7 vs Detroit it would’ve happened. They shot 16-63 23.8% from the field with only 43 points while MJ shot 48.1% & had 31. MJ haters told me he always had a superteam though...

My response to that is that the NBA nowadays, although the rules and landscape of the league are different than 35 years ago, the average player is better now than back then, just like how the average player in the 60s was not as good as the average player in the 90s. Why am I saying this? Because as the average playing level of average players increase, the average ceiling for the best players increase. Then Ewing gets his revenge and Wilt finally gets to prove himself right.
I believe it's some other fanbase needs strapping for claiming Thier hero can 'play all positions' literally believing it.
Besides, today the 'positions' are all kinda the same so it's a non arguement...
Back when there was truebig man/little man split in skills and responsibilities these players today wouldn't fit.
Small men will be too fast, big men blocking hoops and everyone physical... Whole different players become stars and stats from different generations can't be compared anymore caus all rules point to faster, higher scoring.
So to suggest someone can 'play all positions'' in an era where being the best all round average is better than being a clinical specialist.
Yes there are some Jordan fanbase acting like dicks...but please use that energy on the real thing causing so much disrespect these days in NBA conversations.

Considering that, unlike the season in the playoffs, the difference in individual talent is the most important factor in determining victory or defeat, Jordan's status alone could make the Chicago Bulls of the 1993 NBA Finals the most powerful team in history. 5:30 -- I had MJ 1988 as the greatest overall season by him. His team may not have been good, but for his effectiveness, it was at an all time high.
Stop me when the next player who wins MVP also wins Defensive MVP the same season again. It's not happening.
There was a stretch of 33 games actually where Jordan played point, and he got around 15 Triple Doubles in that 2 month stretch.
Had MJ played Point guard in the slow 1990's, he would have averaged a triple double like Oscar Robertson did in the fast pace 60's without all the advantages that era gave for pace and shots. I honestly think Jordan in 1989 could have averaged 33 PPG, 12 Assists, and 11-12 rebounds if he'd been point guard all season. Those numbers would take some serious effort to beat even today.

92 Jordan is the greatest combination of his athletic ability and his overall fundamentals, skills, and shooting etc. But 98 Jordan might just be the best because he was so dominant over the league, he lead the league in PPG, he was 1st team all defense, he won all star game mvp, regular season mvp, and was his biggest carry job, because Pippen was starting to break down he had injuries, and the supporting cast really wasnt good to begin with and they were getting old. And we all know how Jordan capped off that season with the steal and then the shot of shots. He was so mentally dominant in 98, he willed that team to the title.

THE SHOT blunted the horrible Oakley trade. as bulls escaped into ECSF beating the much more superior and balanced 1989 cavs that won 57 games, 10 more games won than 1989 bulls and went 6-0 vs bulls in 1989 regular season.

@Z Z this is true, you’re right, but during that time, the league saw its best defense efficiency team wise. If you look up other great scorers during that era like Kobe, T-Mac, Paul Pierce, and Vince Carter to name a few, they weren’t the most efficient either. Before his knee injury, that 2002 wizards team were going to be a playoff team as the were the 4th seed in the East and they were one of the best defensive teams in the league. He had to rely more on skill and iq and averaging 24 ppg during that era is very respectable.

Nice video. Just a small correction about your comment at 2:35 - his 43.7 PPG against the Celtics in '86 is *not* (and was not at the time either) the highest scoring average in a playoff *series.* It was the highest scoring average for an entire *playoff run.* There's a difference. Playoff run means all series in a given year. It just so happened that MJ only played in one series that year, so his series scoring average of 43.7ppg ended up being his average for the entire playoff run. And that is the highest average for a playoff run in NBA history.
But he averaged more in several series - they just happened in years where his team went further in the playoffs and he scored less in the other series, so his average for those playoff runs was lower overall. Jerry West also had a higher average in a series in the 60s.
Here are the top 10 individual playoff *series* scoring averages of all time:
46.3 PPG on 45% FG - Jerry West - 1965 WDF vs Bullets (Won 4-2)
    45.2 PPG on 56% FG - Michael Jordan - 1988 1st Rd vs Cavaliers (Won 3-2)
    45.0 PPG on 61% FG - Michael Jordan - 1992 1st Rd vs Heat (Won 3-0)
    43.7 PPG on 51% FG - Michael Jordan - 1986 1st Rd vs Celtics (Lost 3-0)
43.0 PPG on 55% FG - Michael Jordan - 1990 ECSF vs Sixers (Won 4-1)
    42.6 PPG on 60% FG - Bernard King - 1984 1st Rd vs Pistons (Won 3-2)
41.0 PPG on 51% FG - Michael Jordan - 1993 Finals vs Suns (Won 4-2)
40.8 PPG on 40% FG - Rick Barry - 1967 Finals vs Sixers (Lost 4-2)
40.6 PPG on 43% FG - Elgin Baylor - 1962 Finals vs Celtics (Lost 4-3)
    39.8 PPG on 52% FG - Michael Jordan - 1989 1st Rd vs Cavaliers (Won 3-2)
Jordan has a preposterous 6 of the top 10. No one else has more than one in the top 10.

It was freakish... more so than anything we even saw from Ali, Gretzky, and GOATs of the other sports. It doesn't matter who you are, that Jordan would be terrifying to face. @@ZZ-ex8py Please re-read my Rank by Season explanation for 1987.
As for your assertion that he was putting up "empty" stats like Westbrook in 2017, I wholeheartedly disagree.
The Bulls were predicted to win 30 games that season. Krause got rid of Orlando Woodridge, the 2nd leading scorer for the Bulls MJ’s 1st 2 seasons - and other members of "Bulls Traveling Cocaine Circus".
In 1987, the 2nd leading scorer for the Bulls was 'offensive powerhouse' Charles Oakley at 14.5 ppg, yes... that Oakley. 1987 was Oakley's best scoring season outside of 1990 w/ the Knicks (14.6). He was a career 9.7 ppg scorer.
MJ took a bunch of nobodies and propelled them to a nearly 500 season, the 7th seed in the East ; all by leading the team in points (37.1), steals (2.9) and blocks (1.5) - and by playing all 82 games. Talent-wise, it was his worst Bulls team.
Simply, he had NO help and anybody that could create their own shot. Oakley was the enforcer and provided him protection, whilst also being an outstanding rebounder... nothing more.
In summation, he DID make that terrible team as good as they could be by showcasing that he was the best offensive and defensive player in the world. He was a one-man wrecking crew, not because he wanted to be, but because he HAD to be.
      Hope this helps.
